I have just recently been prescribed Topamax 25mg to aid in weight loss. I take 25mg at bedtime for 7 days then 50mg. How long does it take before i should start seeing a difference in my weight. I have noticed that I do not have headaches since taking this medicine.

I've tried Topamax and had really great results with all of my disorders - bulimia, drinking, depression. It even caused me to lose weight, which I loved of course. I am currently on Depakote and just last week put on Topamax for a 59pd weight gain in eight months. I am miserable and looking for any encouragement I can get. I can't find anything that says I will or won't loss weight by adding this Topamax even thought my doctor said it should curve my appetite I'm willing to try anything. I don't have any midnight binges and use portion control when I eat breakfast and dinner. I don't snack but I'm not real good at exercising.

I also had this kind of crazy weight loss on Topamax. For me, it turned out to be the combination of the dosage of Topamax and other medications that made the weight loss so severe. I noticed that once I stopped taking Wellbutrin and as my headaches improved I lowered my dose of Topamax, the weight loss eased off and it took about 6 months to get back to my usual weight. Now I am back watching what I eat, instead of eating everything in site and losing weight!

I know that weight loss is associated with both of those, especially the Topamax. I was ok with that, I've been wanting to lose about 30 lbs. anyway. But I'm on low doses of both, so I didn't expect to see much weight loss, if any, and especially not so quickly. My appointment at the psychiatrist was on October 7 and when they had me get on the scale there, it read 131 lbs.

Now, the positive thing I do like about this topamax their is a lot of feedback as far as the weight loss part of it. This is really what I am more interested in taking it for.

You may try giving the child some digestive enzymes and multivitamin preparations that help in improving the appetite. Topamax does tend to cause weight loss, but trust me, this is not the way you want to lose weight. Topamax (I was taking it for bipolar) first of all did nothing for my moods. I was back in the hospital a few months after first being prescribed this, along with seroquel and ativan for panic and anxiety. That's not what makes this medicine so undesirable though. With each dose increase, I had numbness in my legs and arms. This could continue for as long as 2 weeks after a dose increase.

When already taking Topamax, how long (months) do you need to cycle off before going back on to experience weight loss again? I am on Topamax 150 a day for migraine but it's the botox injections that help me. I lost 10lbs in the first 3 or so months on it and 5 more gradually but it plateaued. I've probably been on for a year or two. I read the weight loss is in the first 3 mainly and then stops after a year. I would taper off/back on of course.

I am also hypothyroid and take 200mcg of synthroid, will there be issues taking these two meds together? I read that one of the side effects of topamax is weight loss. This I wouldnt mind as Ive put on weight due to my hypothyroid. But, the biggest thing would not have these headaches. So i posted this comment to try and get some answers from members who may have not experienced hair loss so it will encourage her to go back on Topamax as the pain has become worse also her Fatigue. I recommend you find a post on this site or the internet related to Topamax and Fibromyalgia and print it off and take to your Rheumatologist as there are 1000's of patient prescribed with Topamax in which to treat Fibromyalgia.

I take it for nerve pain and complex migraines. I did experience weight loss but not loss so far, but I do take daily vitamin and extra supplements plus making sure I drink Ensure and a V-8 everyday to keep myself health. I didn’t need to lose any weight. I also cut all alcohol out with the exception of the occasional glass of wine with we are out to dinner with friends…. (Mostly so I don’t look like a party pooper) and anything carbonated taste awful.
