Avatar n tn I am 32 now, and last week I just began to notice the exact same symtom on the left edge of the tongue! For several years I have noticed that a wisdom tooth is on the move in the upper left side. It is actually popped through the skin at this point. Do these nerves for the edges of the tongue run through the same area of wisdom teeth? I havent been to a dentist in about 6 years...
Avatar n tn Outpt surgery under general anesthesia. The wisdom tooth was horizontal next to a cyst---the crown of the wisdom tooth was pushing against the tooth next to it. Not in to much pain, I'm taking clindamycin & oxycodone. Since the extraction, I have only taken 4 pain pills. Of course my face is still swollen, which is to be expected, but my tongue on the left side is still numb. My tongue still feels like is did the day of surgery. Which is scary--how long should I expect this?
Avatar m tn I had my wisdom tooth(2) removed 6 days ago. my lower left lip and a few teeth are still feeling numb currently. is this numbness going to be temporary or permanent?

Avatar f tn The numbness and tingling could be due to your wisdom tooth. Impacted wisdom tooth can cause TMJ and numbness and tingling of tongue. It could also be related to neck-tongue syndrome. There is upper nuchal (neck) or occipital pain on one side, with or without numbness in these areas. This is accompanied by simultaneous ipsilateral (same side) numbness of the tongue. This numbness is caused by compression of the second cervical root (C2) in the atlantoaxial space. .
Avatar n tn Hi Kim, Thank you for your post about what happened to you with your tongue numbness from your wisdom teeth extraction. I had my lower left wisdom tooth removed on October 29th 2008 - and here it is, almost 2 months later - and the left bottom side of my gums and tongue are still numb. I totally understand what you mean about the loss of intimacy thing. French kissing is out - as well as other things - for us too and this is very sad indeed.
Avatar n tn Common cold, sinusitis, ear infection, sensory nerve compression, peripheral neuropathy as in diabetes, inflamed wisdom tooth, impacted wisdom tooth etc can all cause facial numbness and pain. Please discuss this with your doctor. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn Following extraction of an upper molar and wisdom tooth, I have suffered from miserable coated tongue, a sensation of dryness, and loss some of sensation in my upper lip. Could this be the result of any nerve damage from the extractions?
Avatar n tn Common cold, sinusitis, ear infection, sensory nerve compression, peripheral neuropathy as in diabetes, inflamed wisdom tooth, impacted wisdom tooth etc can all cause facial numbness and pain. This is for localized numbness in the face. This numbness can also spread to arm depending on the severity. Numbness of your feet can be due to spinal nerve compression of lumbar spinal nerves. Facial numbness and that of feet may or may not be related.
Avatar n tn Hi there. Numbness or tingling in the tongue also known as paresthesia, occur most commonly due to damage to the nervous system. Damage to the lingual nerve supplying the tongue as a complication of dental procedures like wisdom tooth extraction, implants or root canal procedures. Other conditions could be stroke. Sometimes these can involve the lips or jaw. Calcium and vitamin B complex deficiency needs to be addressed. Consult an oral surgeon for assessment of possibilities. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn i dont think you have injury to the nerve as the injury is most commonly to the lingual nerve which supplies the anterior part of the tongue and floor of the mouth and u r complaining of numbness related to ur chin , the nerve supplying the cheek is far away the wisdom tooth area to be injured in the operaton check ur oral surgeon to reassure you
660300 tn?1224790361 I had an impacted wisdom tooth removed over 3 weeks ago and was stunned that the numbness and tingling and throbbing jaw pain has not dissipated at all...my oral surgeon says everything is fine but the nerve could send "aberrant signals" for possibly 6 months or more. I have been popping pain pills every 4 hours for three weeks but now my prescription has run out and I don't know how i am going to be able to stand it.
Avatar f tn Hi, My sister removed her wisdom teeth last one and half month back. Her half tongue had lost sensation and when she does more talking then her tongue gets heavy. Her doctor said she mihgt will take 6 months to recover. I am really worried, Will it be recovered..? Is there anyone who has same problem and who recovered or not recovered from this..? Please share some information with me..I am really panic...
Avatar m tn So, as you can see from the attached picture I chipped my wisdom tooth awhile back(Last July I believe). I don't have the money to get it extracted, and If I get it taken out I might as well have all 4 extracted because they're all pretty bad and might as well do them all at once. The white spot in the back of the mouth..Not entirely sure what it is. I had strep throat awhile back and I'm afraid that it might have gotten down into my wisdom tooth and never fully went away?
Avatar n tn This is accompanied by simultaneous ipsilateral (same side) numbness of the tongue. This numbness is caused by compression of the second cervical root (C2) in the atlantoaxial space. If there is a C1-C2 instability then this can be dangerous. Hence get this confirmed by a MRI immediately. It can also be an inflamed wisdom tooth. Do discuss this with your doctor (both dentist and orthopedic specialist) and get yourself examined. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar f tn i had a mandibular wisdom tooth extraction five days back. it was traumatic. it took an hour and a lot of bone cutting. there were two stitches. my face was swollen for four days, and there was a lot of pain. i followed all the post extraction instructions. i am still on anti biotics and anti fungals and anti inflammatories. i have two problems... 1-there is very limited mouth opening. i am eating normal food now, but with much difficulty and pain.
Avatar n tn Just under four years ago, I discovered that I had a wisdom tooth coming out (lower right side) it hurt a bit and did not emerge completely, unfortunately I was heading to Japan and didn't really have time to get it sorted out back home I thought I could get it done in Japan.
657020 tn?1238037518 Could this cause my enlarged tongue? (I have had bumps on the sides of my tongue from the tongue pushing against my teeth since August). Or are my ear problems strictly associated with my sinus problems? I suppose I should mention I am a 24 year old female. I haven't been to the dentist in 4 years. When I was 16, I was supposed to have the teeth next to my wisdom teeth pulled out to make room for my wisdom teeth, but I only had one of them pulled.
521505 tn?1212046510 lower wisedom tooth 6 days post-op. (Tongue is not effected.). I knew there was a 20% chase of this going into surgery due to my age (44) and root formation impacted around nerve. But, I had a nasty bacteria (smelly) in the wisdom tooth that would not go away after a couple of rounds of PCN and special rinses. Why does the numbness increase at night? It feels like a burning in my chin at night and occasional sharp-electrical like pain in other teeth on the side for a split second or two.
