Tiotropium in asthma

Common Questions and Answers about Tiotropium in asthma

spiriva

Avatar m tn Cause of low DLCO and drop in it from test 1 to test 1? I am currently on tiotropium bromide and salmeterol/fluticasone propionate. My reason for posting this is one doc is pessimistic and the other highly optimistic. Thank you.
Avatar m tn I take Spiriva Respimat (tiotropium bromide) 2.5 mcg/actuation, and Wixela (fluticasone propionate salmeterol inhalation powder) for my COPD. Is there a sequence I should be taking these meds in? Is there a time frame I should use between the two meds?
Avatar n tn Yes, there are. Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) is one and Serevent® Inhalation Aerosol (salmeterol xinafoate) another. Each is a bronchodilator and capable of giving good relief of shortness of breath.
Avatar f tn Go to the doctor or ER. The only symptoms I had for a massive PE was SOB. I have, in the last two weeks been diagnosed with more DVT's and PE's in both lungs. Request a d-dimer test. It is the way they started to look for mine. Be persistant!! I know that it is hard to manage the finances of illness, but the alternative is not very appealing. When I was first diagnosed with DVT's and PE's in January of this year I had let it go for 10 days. I am lucky to still be here.
Avatar n tn This would include a long-acting bronchodilator, such as Serevent® Inhalation Aerosol (salmeterol xinafoate), Foradil® Aerolizer™ (formoterol fumarate inhalation powder) or Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) along with an inhaled steroid. Another potentially helpful, oral medicine is called theophylline. Your doctor may also want to prescribe this. You should have your blood oxygen level checked, in case it is low and you would need supplemental oxygen.
Avatar f tn Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) has a maximum duration of action of about 36 hours. To be safe, you would want to be off the medicine for 48 to 72 hours before the spirometry. It would have been preferable, but not mandatory to do the pulmonary function tests (PFTs) at the time the diagnosis of chronic lung disease was made especially if the diagnosis was unequivocal. The other important question would be, “Why 3 CT scans, presumably of your lungs, in 16 months?
Avatar f tn At my six-monthly checkup at my local hospital here in Spain there was a replacement doctor and since he was young I thought he might be willing to hear why I was not taking spiriva and steroids. He confirmed that a person with severe COPD MUST use these medicines. But - I objected - they do not cure, they’re only supposed to make you feel a little better and have nasty adverse effects.
Avatar f tn Is anyone else tuck in house due to unhealthy air? I live in n calif & have asthma. Bored but asthma already acting up. Would love to hear from you.
Avatar f tn There is a strong association between eczema and childhood asthma. This association has been documented in pre-adolescence, adolescence and adult life, into middle age. If one or both parents have a history of eczema and/or asthma, the incidence of combined asthma and eczema is even higher. That being the case, does not necessarily mean that your son has asthma; just that his odds of having it are higher than in children similar to him, but without eczema.
Avatar m tn If, as I suspect, the diagnosis of asthma was made on the basis of wheezing it would be important to keep in mind that other lung conditions can mimic asthma in this way; specifically, diseases that can cause obstruction of the large airways, even obstruction of the windpipe (trachea) itself or disease of the vocal cords.
Avatar m tn I am 17 and play sports regularly. I currently am playing basketball and have severe asthma that does not seem to be resolved by using a rescue inhaler. However, i have noticed that after a certain point, my asthma symptoms dissipate. This "breakpoint" in my asthma seems to happen after playing for about 10-20 minutes. Why does this happen and is there anyway i can "break" my asthma before a game?
Avatar n tn Asthma can be triggered by some certain things, dust, grass, weeds, pollen, seasonal, sickness, foods, reflux, chemical in the air (cleaning agents, pollution), exercise can induce along with heat. Usually asthma can be worse at night and early morning. Asthma can make you very tired but it can also, be dangerous if not treated well. Read as much as you can about Asthma.
Avatar f tn If this is nocturnal asthma you may see a significant fall in peak flow overnight; that is, a drop from the flow rate at bedtime to that in the early morning. So, you should ask your doctor if he/she believes this is asthma, if you have GERD and if, perhaps it might be time to reevaluate your sleep apnea.
Avatar m tn A very common cause of coughing if when the upper airway infection triggers lower airways reactivity, such as with asthma. In most cases in a 3 year old, physicians will try a trial course of upper airway treatment (antihistamines and possibly antibiotics, if sinusitis is suspected) to if this controls the cough. In other cases, where asthma or lower airway reactivity is considered, a trial with inhaled steroids and or other anti-inflammatory medication (leukotriene inhibitor) is instituted.
Avatar f tn would depend on what you are allergic too. Allergy to grass pollen would make you worse in the fall, ragweed I believe is in the summer months and dust mite allergies are all year round. I got told from my allergist that dust mites peak in june and it feels the worse come winter (october-november) when you start spending more time inside with the dust mite dander.
Avatar f tn My 4 year old son coughs constantly at night. It's a dry, hacking cough which does not bring up any phlegm. It doesn't sound "sick" at all--it's the type of cough I wouldn't even notice except that he does it so frequently. During the day, often when he laughs or cries, it turns into the same dry, hacking cough. Otherwise, I haven't noticed that he does much coughing during the day. Does this sound like asthma? He has never wheezed or had difficulty breathing.
Avatar n tn My son had been diagnosed with pneumonia 4 times in the past four months, as well as bronchiolitis in between. He has been treated with Rocephin, Azithromycin, and Amoxil. He has breathing treatments 4 times a day (pulmicort & xopenex) has had 2 episodes of cyanosis, and been hospitalized for low oxygen satuation, wheezing etc. His pediatrician tells me I shouldn't panic and that he has asthma. He is only 13 mos old!
Avatar f tn I'm trying to understand what is wrong with my sister...she has Asthma also Empysemia. She hasn't been well for a couple of weeks & her Dr daid she had a chest infection. Last week she was rushed into hospital, she could hardly breathe, put her on oxygen etc but it didn't help much. Had an xray, they said she didnt have a chest infection. Then a CT Scan, they said she did have infection.
Avatar m tn m exposed to quite dusty conditions and i have slight asthma but the last asthma evaluation my gp said it had possibly left me, is that possible?? as i had blown the peak flow almost of the scale. last year i had an anxiety/panic episode which was brought on by the thought of a flight i had in a couple of weeks the doctors said, and i'm terrified of flying.
Avatar m tn I would suggest that you have some asthma testing done. Those were my symptoms as a child with undiagnosed asthma. It sounds like exercise induced asthma. My two cents. Take care and feel better. God bless.
Avatar n tn Ventolin is the brand name for Albuterol. This medication is used for people who have breathing problems like asthma etc. Not sure why the Dr would be using this to treat bradycardia. It can make the heart rate faster when using, but it is usually short lived and I personally have never heard of it being used for your particular problem. If I were you, I'd ask specifically why you have been given this medication. Do you also have asthma or emphysema?
Avatar f tn I have numbness in my chest at times and hard to breath and sometime putations in the centre off my chest and occassional pain in same part of my chest and sometimes aching in the left arm and I have asthma any help
Avatar f tn It is also likely that she continues to have bronchitis and/or asthma, the asthma having been brought on by the infectious disease of her lungs. In this circumstance, the asthma may or may not persist on its own and the apparent response to ventolin is encouraging. It is very unlikely that her lungs would have been permanently damaged, by either the infection (pneumonia) or by the antibiotic treatment.
