Tiotropium use in asthma

Common Questions and Answers about Tiotropium use in asthma

spiriva

Avatar m tn I take Spiriva Respimat (tiotropium bromide) 2.5 mcg/actuation, and Wixela (fluticasone propionate salmeterol inhalation powder) for my COPD. Is there a sequence I should be taking these meds in? Is there a time frame I should use between the two meds?
Avatar m tn Cause of low DLCO and drop in it from test 1 to test 1? I am currently on tiotropium bromide and salmeterol/fluticasone propionate. My reason for posting this is one doc is pessimistic and the other highly optimistic. Thank you.
Avatar n tn Yes, there are. Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) is one and Serevent® Inhalation Aerosol (salmeterol xinafoate) another. Each is a bronchodilator and capable of giving good relief of shortness of breath.
Avatar f tn At my six-monthly checkup at my local hospital here in Spain there was a replacement doctor and since he was young I thought he might be willing to hear why I was not taking spiriva and steroids. He confirmed that a person with severe COPD MUST use these medicines. But - I objected - they do not cure, they’re only supposed to make you feel a little better and have nasty adverse effects.
Avatar f tn Go to the doctor or ER. The only symptoms I had for a massive PE was SOB. I have, in the last two weeks been diagnosed with more DVT's and PE's in both lungs. Request a d-dimer test. It is the way they started to look for mine. Be persistant!! I know that it is hard to manage the finances of illness, but the alternative is not very appealing. When I was first diagnosed with DVT's and PE's in January of this year I had let it go for 10 days. I am lucky to still be here.
975514 tn?1324997938 My son is on a steroid inhaler for asthma. He had several courses of pred for asthma attacks in the year preceeding his diagnosis. At first the docs were thinking that his adrenal insufficiency was due to this but as time has gone on they now think that he has Addisons and his asthma meds had nothing to do with it. I am not sure what is in Advair as I am in the UK but the base drug Fluticasone is the most likely suspect when asthma meds are implicated in Adrenal insufficiency.
Avatar n tn This would include a long-acting bronchodilator, such as Serevent® Inhalation Aerosol (salmeterol xinafoate), Foradil® Aerolizer™ (formoterol fumarate inhalation powder) or Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) along with an inhaled steroid. Another potentially helpful, oral medicine is called theophylline. Your doctor may also want to prescribe this. You should have your blood oxygen level checked, in case it is low and you would need supplemental oxygen.
Avatar m tn If, as I suspect, the diagnosis of asthma was made on the basis of wheezing it would be important to keep in mind that other lung conditions can mimic asthma in this way; specifically, diseases that can cause obstruction of the large airways, even obstruction of the windpipe (trachea) itself or disease of the vocal cords.
Avatar f tn Is anyone else tuck in house due to unhealthy air? I live in n calif & have asthma. Bored but asthma already acting up. Would love to hear from you.
746512 tn?1388807580 And follow the instructions, of have someone in an asthma clinic review them with you. Exhale completely, take a puff, inhaling as you do so to the limit of possibility, and hold your breath until you can't hold it any more. Patients have varying degrees of sensitivity to albuterol sulfate. Some people get agitated, and others, it hardly bothers at all.
Avatar n tn I agree. I use ventolin for my asthma and it raises my heart rate for about 10-15 minutes. Not a big deal. Did they mention a pacemaker to keep your heart rate up to a good speed? How slow is your heart rate? When do you go back for a follow-up appointment?
9330903 tn?1403362548 Anyone with asthma? Is it okay to use your inhaler? Im having a terrible time breathing but being sunday I cant call my dr to see if I can use it.
370736 tn?1247242917 I have asthma and use inhaler (long acting and short acting) and Singulair. My pulmonary doc and OB said they're fine to use in pregnancy. I have been using my inhaler a lot more during pregnancy and I'm pretty sure it's because we are now breathing for 2 and our blood flow (which carries oxygen) is going for 2.
Avatar m tn Magnesium supplements in particular will help. Use magnesium gluconate, which a very effective form, though a bit more expensive. Talk with your doctor about the short term use of prednisone. I am very against excessive use of prednisone, which has very serious side effects, however when the lungs get "twitchy" oral prednisone for several days, with a taper may the only thing to "settle them down". Ask your doctor about a few tablets for use in an emergency.
Avatar m tn how can I remove mucus from my throat, evernight when I lye down at night I can hear the mucus moving in my throat but I cant cought it out. I do have the netipot and I do use it. I have also tried Mucinex it did't work for me. When I breath or yawn I can smell the mucus.
Avatar f tn Her Dr said if we had to use the inhaler more than 3 days/week to bring her in for an appointment. Each time we go in the Dr says her lungs sound clear and to come back if we have to use her inhaler more than 3 times the next week. When we went in for the 2nd or third appointment after that Dr put her on Pulmicort twice a day to prevent asmtha problems, she said it could take two weeks to take effect so come back in 3 if it isnt better.
Avatar f tn My asthma has been steady. But the only thing is that i know of some doctors let you use your inhaler and some say not to it just depends how active your asthma has been in the recent past years. Since mines was active im allowed to use it. But just ask your doctor.
Avatar f tn Use your inhaler!! It won't hurt the baby. I have asthma toon the Dr said we have to keep it handled.
Avatar f tn Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) has a maximum duration of action of about 36 hours. To be safe, you would want to be off the medicine for 48 to 72 hours before the spirometry. It would have been preferable, but not mandatory to do the pulmonary function tests (PFTs) at the time the diagnosis of chronic lung disease was made especially if the diagnosis was unequivocal. The other important question would be, “Why 3 CT scans, presumably of your lungs, in 16 months?
Avatar m tn My asthma was so bad. I had to go to emergency room. I use to. Suffer from waking up in my sleep and not breathing. Coughing to catch a breathe. Scared me straight.
