Tiotropium and asthma

Common Questions and Answers about Tiotropium and asthma

spiriva

Avatar m tn I went to a doc who said it was probably asthma and prescribed formoterol/budesonide and montelukast sodium. A few months later, my bedroom was treated for termite infestation, the fumes of which I presumed cleared up after about 4 days. After returning to my bedroom for a few nights, I woke up in a panic with severe SOB.
Avatar m tn I take Spiriva Respimat (tiotropium bromide) 2.5 mcg/actuation, and Wixela (fluticasone propionate salmeterol inhalation powder) for my COPD. Is there a sequence I should be taking these meds in? Is there a time frame I should use between the two meds?
Avatar n tn Yes, there are. Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) is one and Serevent® Inhalation Aerosol (salmeterol xinafoate) another. Each is a bronchodilator and capable of giving good relief of shortness of breath.
Avatar f tn I was told to stop my spiriva in Aug. that I had been using for about 3 yrs. This was after I had a PFT for the first time. I've had three ct scans over the past three yrs. Shows granulomata and calcified nodules..no change. For the past couple of days I've been very SOB and my arms feel weak and heavy. My chest doesn't hurt it just feels tight/full. Today has been worse. I was also put on neurontin 1 1/2 weeks ago for headaches and wonder if that could have anything to do with it.
Avatar n tn Sorry to say, there are no cures, but there are good treatments, especially with inhaled medicine. If you have not already stopped smoking cigarettes, you must stop immediately. Then you should begin respiratory medicine for this condition.
Avatar f tn At my six-monthly checkup at my local hospital here in Spain there was a replacement doctor and since he was young I thought he might be willing to hear why I was not taking spiriva and steroids. He confirmed that a person with severe COPD MUST use these medicines. But - I objected - they do not cure, they’re only supposed to make you feel a little better and have nasty adverse effects.
Avatar f tn Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) has a maximum duration of action of about 36 hours. To be safe, you would want to be off the medicine for 48 to 72 hours before the spirometry. It would have been preferable, but not mandatory to do the pulmonary function tests (PFTs) at the time the diagnosis of chronic lung disease was made especially if the diagnosis was unequivocal. The other important question would be, “Why 3 CT scans, presumably of your lungs, in 16 months?
Avatar f tn I had asthma since I was five and it is getting worse and worse coz my chest and lungs is feeling really painful whenever I do sports and I no longer can do sports as long as I want now. Every time after I had asthma attack, I will either faint, dehydrated, lack of energy or feeling extremely dizzy which I can't even walk straight. These symptoms will at least last for two hours. Will I get anoxia or other sickness other then asthma?
Avatar n tn We went to a homeopath who said that since both asthma and the burping are movements of air in the body, that they are related. He gave him some homeopathetic medicine which did relief the burping somewhat, but after he stopped taking it, the problem returned just as bad. The burping is worse during episodes of asthma and whenever he drinks cow's milk. Dairy has produced asthma attacks as well. Any advice or ideas?
Avatar f tn i am 22wks pregnant and have asthma.

1931528 tn?1323251138 Sometimes, a damp enviroment can cause mold. If there is mold in the house, then yes, the asthma could get a little worse. My little sister has asthma, and we don't have to keep the house extremely dry for her. But a dehumidifier wouldn't hurt to have around.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with asthma and copd~ but a breathing test proved otherwise and ultimately all my other doctor visits simply dismissed me as having anxiety/panic attacks and probably a hypocondriac. I was none of the above, my vitamin b12 was low as well as my vitamin d. These 2 vitamins quickly resolved my issue~hope it's something as simple as that for you. good luck and I suggest you do some research on symptoms of vitamin deficiencies.
Avatar f tn I AM HAVING KNEE SURGERY AND MY DR PRES DARVOCET FOR PAIN AND I'VE TAKEN ONLY ONE BUT NOW HAVING PAIN WHEN I BREATHE IN MY BACK RIGHTSIDE IS THIS NORMAL
Avatar f tn i do know that beta blockers are not for people with asthma, but i thought if anyone knows if i could take a low dose beta blocker for my anxiety and tachycardia and this low dose beta blocker would not affect my asthma too much. Currently, i am taking 2 mg. zoloft along with 1 mg. clonazepam up to 3 times a day as prescribed by my dr. These used to keep my heart rate down to below 100, but now they are not working as good.
Avatar m tn I am not a doctor but I have been living with asthma for more than thirty years and six years ago I was diagnosed with tachycardia. Take your medication for tachy on time if you are on medication, if not get to the nearest emergency room when you are having an attack. The same is true for an asthma attack. If you experience both at the same time, use your medication and go to the emergency room. If you are taking ventolin for asthma, you know that it may speed up your heart rate.
Avatar f tn Any of you have both CM and asthma? Just wondering because my symptoms are so much worse when I have an asthma attack, like I did today. I was actually hyperventilating in my GPs office. It was awful! Now my head hurts and the numbness/tingling/weakness is worse than usual. I know there is not medical connection between the two, but the symptoms ARE connected and overlap and trigger each other. If anyone has any experience/ideas that I can try to help, I'd be glad to hear them!
178698 tn?1228774338 Hi Yvette, I had a pretty severe asthma attack when I was 24 weeks. I had to go to the emergency room at 1:00 am and they gave me oxygen and prvental as well as Prednisone ( serious steroid). I stayed on prednisone for two weeks then I went on advair until my DD was born. She was born very strong and healthy and she, unlike me, has no allergies so far at almost 4 year old. I was very worried about my baby and the prednisone, but they needed to get me and keep me breathing.
Avatar n tn Hi, I'd certainly have it checked out and when it's happening get a PFT test at your dr to ascertain if it's stemming from the lung and asthma. Just my two cents. WELCOME to the our Community. Maybe some others will jump on in too!
Avatar f tn I only have asthma, but I have lots of relatives who have asthma and a number who have asthma and hypothyroid. I'm pretty sure it's all linked somewhere's at they both are a part of the autoimmune system. One of my cousins' has type 1 diabetes with thyroid and lately now has asthma too.
Avatar n tn Metoprolol is selective, but not entirely so; thus, asthma worsens in some people given this “selective” medicine and you may be one of them. Your doctor may have prescribed the metoprolol for both relief of the syncope and treatment of your hypertension. There are many other anti-hypertensive medicines that will control your hypertension without aggravating your asthma.
1491252 tn?1297450771 Soccor tryouts are in february and i wanna tryout, but im not sure if my asthma will act up, In track i had to use my inhaler more and whenever i cry, my asthma acts up really bad, and its gotten worse, my chest hurts and my back and stomach, i have headaches for days. im also worried if this will affect my heart in any way. can anyone help me with my asthma and help me out with the other stuff too, tell me what i can do about these headaches and chest pain. thanks.
Avatar f tn Basically, I had a bowl of soup (from a tin) and a couple of cheese sandwiches for dinner then sat and watch tv. Shortly after my asthma attack kicked in. I had only a smidging of my ventolin inhaler left which didn't really do anything. I think this time my attack got quite severe as I got quite bad chest pains as I struggled to breath. Eventually, it just started to clear and a couple of hours later I was fine. But, for the really bad chest and neck pains.

730363 tn?1259609190 But he wants to put me on Lorpresor and I have read that BB should not be used in people with asthma. I have had asthma since I was born, it is much miler now but it's still with me. So. my thoughts are that perhaps I shouldn't take the Lorpressor. I am currently talking Verapamil but it isn't helping o he wants to change me to Lorpresor. As far as I know my resting heart rate is 75-80, and my BP is usually around 116/68.
Avatar f tn I also wonder if you or anyone else smokes in the home or the cars. We did, and stopped when we found out for sure she had asthma and she's done a complete 360. We were also referred to a visiting nurse type of program. A woman came to our home and showed us things that would cause problems for asthmatics.
Avatar m tn I have had asthma since childhood but I have always been very athletic and able bodied as my asthma was always well managed with the use of my rescue inhaler. Then I had back surgery in 2001.The doctors used titanium screws as part of the procedure for my spinal fusion. Since then my asthma has changed drastically for the worse.I can no longer do many of the physical things I used to enjoy.I cant tolerate any type of perfumes.I had to stop camping because I cant tolerate wood smoke.
