Avatar f tn s customary to remove the entire thyroid or at least part of it, rather than just remove the nodules. Many of us have nodules, also and don't have to have thyroidectomy, so I'd say it's going to depend on the ultra sound and FNB. Did the endo say you HAD to have a thyroidectomy, no matter what? Or was it merely "suggested" as a possible treatment if the FNB and ulra sound indicate a necessity?
740586 tn?1247662758 How big are your nodules. Many people have nodules but not are always very big. It really depends on the size of them. Do you have the size i.e., in centimetres or millimetres?
Avatar n tn Many people get a choking sensation when the thyroid is swollen and/or inflamed (goiter), or when they have nodules. A thyroid ultra sound will show whether or not you have swelling/inflammation and/or nodules. The choking sensation can also be caused by anxiety, even if you don't "feel" anxious. Acid reflux, swelling/inflammation of the thyroid, nodules, and anxiety, can all be indications of a thyroid condition.
Avatar n tn s, the cause of the multinodular goiter is repeated rounds of antibodies and immune cells destroying thyroid tissue, the thyroid then makes less thyroid hormone, which causes the pituitary gland to secrete more TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone), which causes the thyroid to grow. I believe multinodular goiter usually happens when Hashimoto's has been attacking the thyroid for a long time.
Avatar f tn Can someone have thyroid nodules and have completely normal thyroid function and blood tests? Or do you HAVE to have Hashimoto's Disease to have nodules and some inflammation?
Avatar f tn You should also get a thyroid ultra sound, as that will confirm/rule out nodules on your thyroid, which could possibly leak hormones, independently of the thyroid, though many of us have nodules, and they are of no concern.
Avatar n tn but in the past I have hhad a sore neck just in the back at the base of the skull. Sore and kind of stiff, that can radiaite to my back. Could thyroid nodules cause this, or is this more likey due to sinus, stress, tension? If thyroid nodules could cause this does it necassarily mean cancer? Any kind of info. would be great as I am extremely nervous. Also, the pain is not all the time, in fact it had been gone for a month and a half now.
587050 tn?1218506678 I have a total of 7 nodules on my thyroid. The largest is just over 4CM. One is just over 3CM in the front of my neck. Could these nodules be obstructing my throat?
393685 tn?1425812522 * Colloid nodule. Most thyroid nodules are colloid nodules — noncancerous (benign) overgrowths of normal thyroid tissue. You may have just one colloid nodule or many. Although these nodules may grow larger, they don't spread beyond your thyroid gland. * Follicular adenoma. This type of nodule also is benign. * Thyroid cyst. These fluid-filled areas of the thyroid can range in size from less than 1/3-inch (about 8 millimeters) in diameter to 1 inch (25 millimeters) or more.
Avatar f tn The connection here with the thyroid is the recurrent laryngeal nerve. It runs through the thyroid and can get squeezed by nodules. That nerve controls your vocal function. You could probably get a thyroid ultrasound for not too much, maybe $250. I had four nodules, three on the right, one on the left. I think mine were squeezing the nerve, when the right side of my thyoid came out, my singing voice was better...however, they found that I had cancer, so I had the other side removed.
Avatar f tn Assuming that you are not having chronic autoimmune thyroiditis, the nodules in your thyroid are not that big to cause such symptoms; in order to cause hoarse voice the nodule must "seat” on the nerve. The hypo echoic nodule is by the definition is a blind spot for ultrasound, that is why the nodule considered suspicious as the ultrasound cannot give good image of these types of nodules.
Avatar n tn Alright, Spruder, here goes my story. Six years ago I was pregnant with my first, and only, child at age 31. For some strange reason, doctors could never understand why, but I went into labor at 36 weeks. She is a happy, healthy six-year-old now. However, because of my premature delivery, and the fatigue that followed my pregnancy, we decided not to have any more children. My fatigue worsened. I attributed it to new motherhood.
Avatar n tn I just had a total thyroidectomy on 8/26/09 for compression from a large thyroid with nodules and a mass on the left side, I already feel better than I did before the surgery. Good Luck!
Avatar f tn Have you been diagnosed with a thyroid condition (other than, apparently, nodules)? Are you on a thyroid medication? If so, which one, what dosage and for how long? Last, but not least, it would be most helpful if you could post your most recent thyroid labs, and be sure to include reference ranges, which vary lab to lab and must come from your own report. Minimum testing should include TSH, Free T3, Free T4 and antibody tests.
Avatar f tn The medical textbooks are suggesting that: "Although the cause of most thyroid nodules is unknown, some risk factors for developing nodules include a lack of iodine in the diet, which can cause thyroid enlargement, family history of benign thyroid nodules, and pre-existing thyroid disease (e.g. Hashimoto's thyroiditis)." Some small nodules are responding well to the small doses of thyroid hormones.
1077688 tn?1255887319 Usually, people with solitary nodules should worry more about cancer, but you have multi nodules. Most nodules are benign, and thyroid cancer has a VERY high cure rate. However, many doctors recommend surgery if the nodules are too big to biopsy. I am hoping others would chime in here, but I am thinking 3.2 cm is too big to do an adequate biopsy and should be removed. Are you taking any thyroid hormone? Do you have any blood results, such as TSH, FT3, FT4?
Avatar f tn t think it was known what set off antibodies to attack the thyroid. Infection? Is that true? What else can set it off?
Avatar f tn s frequently causes hypothyroidism symptoms (too little thyroid hormone), Graves causes hyperthyroidism (too much thyroid hormone). I'm not a medical expert and don't know what small thyroid size means, especially in relationship to the other thyroid characteristics. Often with Hashimoto's or Graves, people may have an enlarged thyroid, especially as the disease progresses.
164435 tn?1377102256 3mm and 2mm are relatively small nodules from my understanding. Did he/she recommend any further watching of those nodules or explanations as to your neck swelling? Any unexplained fevers? Perhaps, going back to your family doc and asking for a referral to another endo for at least a second opinion is warranted here. Certainly, having unexplained weight loss is something (even if it has nothing to do with your thyroid) to be looked at.
