119341 tn?1232563757 ScienceDaily (Feb. 29, 2008) — Thalidomide, a drug blamed in the 1950s for causing birth defects, is now showing promise as a safe and effective treatment for women with recurrent ovarian cancer, according to a study led by a University of Minnesota Cancer Center researcher. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Levi Downs, Jr., M.D.
167426 tn?1254086235 ” The study compared the effectiveness and safety of the combination of thalidomide and topotecan, a chemotherapy often used for ovarian cancer, versus topotecan alone for treatment of recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer in patients who had received prior treatment. Epithelial ovarian cancer is a disease in which cancer cells form in the tissue that covers the ovary.
167426 tn?1254086235 t want to start a new thread NEW YORK FEB 28, 2008 (Reuters Health) - The addition of thalidomide to topotecan appears to improve treatment response rates of recurrent epithelial ovarian carcinoma, according to the results of a phase II trial. Because both agents have antiangiogenic properties, the combination of the two might be more effective than topotecan alone, Dr. Levi S. Downs Jr., of the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis and associates speculated.
Avatar f tn Sip pedialyte to keep from getting dehydrated. And green apple jolly ranchers helped me too.
Avatar f tn Someone said that Topotecan worked better when combined with thalidomide -- don't know much more about it than that, although when I have chemo again (when the Arimidex doesn't hold my counts steady anymore) they are threatening me with topotecan next.
Avatar f tn An ER doc tried to give me something for nausea but I threw it away. When my doc asked if I was taking it at a regular visit I said no. All I could think of was thalidomide from the 60's (?) And all the babies born with defects. I didn't chance it.
1770925 tn?1365618522 Peripheral neuropathy has been seen in association with the following antibiotics metronidazole, nitrofurantoin, thalidomide and isoniazid. What are your neurological symptoms and has a physician correctly attributed them to sulfa drugs? There is no known peripheral neuropathy with the use of cephalexim, particularly short-term use. You can also check with the pharmacist.
Avatar f tn Biological babies should stay in the womb until they are a yearold, I'd you compare how other mammals are at birth. But we can't give birth to babies that.
Avatar n tn I have these red lumps on my legs of various sizes. It hurts to walk, and now I ache all over. They weren't really itching until today, but now they've started to. I saw my dr. about them, and he said it was erythema nodosum as a result of an allergic reaction to Levaquin. However, since then I've had minor difficulty breathing. I'm an asthmatic, so that's not abnormal, but still... Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn The only thing I can think of would be nerve ending damage which can happen while having treatment. Ask your doctor about that. I had it and it is not nice.
Avatar f tn It is very difficult to treat, but current therapies include steroids, vitamins, cryosurgery, thalidomide and UVB light. If staphylococcus or other infection is present, then antibiotics may be needed. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar f tn Just to be on the safe side. You never know... Thalidomide was once considered safe too, but the result was catastrophic!
Avatar f tn No there aren't many incidents that I've heard of. If these things for pregnancies or babies are sooooo bad for us, I'm sure we'd hear more about it other then there all of a sudden on recall..... Doesn't make sense and its illegal for things to be in stores if there on recall. Every store I've been to have all these medications or anything recalled.
764257 tn?1234724152 Thank you all for your quick responses. I talked to my Oncologist today when I saw him and he doesn't want me to go on a diet right now. I am having a problem with the Thalidomide that I am taking as it is making me dizzy, upsets my stomach and nauseous and I think he is concerned about me going on a diet because of the side effects. He really didn't go into it but that is what I think.

10743983 tn?1440210210 Yes its her head. I feel it too and have for a while. My babies been engaged since 34 weeks so its been painful or rather uncomfortable down there for a bit. :) its time for eviction. Surely the baby knows this.
751951 tn?1406632863 You have to admit, people would rather have all the facts to enable them to make an informed concent, medical science is not infalible just think of (ahhh lost a noun again lol the medication given to pregnant mothers to help with nausia) it disabled most babies in utro.
Avatar f tn Hi, Prurigo nodularis is very hard to treat, but current therapies include steroids, vitamins, cryosurgery, thalidomide and UVB light. In the event that staphylococcus or other infection is present, antibiotics have proven effective. A physician may administer a strong dose of prednisone, which will almost immediately stop the itch/scratch cycle. However, cessation of steroids allows relapse to occur, usually within a few weeks.
Avatar f tn Exactly 40 weeks today! No signs of labor, doctor swept my membranes yesterday morning, still nothing! Induction set for Saturday! Come on Saturday! It's time for my baby girl to meet us!
Avatar f tn that's good you baby is measuring ahead I'd much rather hear my baby is bigger and healthier than expected than running behind. And alot of u/s techs refer to babies as a her or a him before they can actually tell so I wouldn't set my mind on that it's for sure a girl ......but a good chance. Good luck Brandi 22.
Avatar f tn Same here... I bawled my eyes out because my husband went to visit his parents today and I didn't wanna go. Lol stupid hormones!!!!!!
Avatar f tn I'm 19 weeks almost 20 and not showing at all either. Aha. I can feel her kick and move and everytging, just no belly yet. My doctor says she doesn't think I'll show till about 25 weeks. Everyone's different, so as long as your babies healthy, don't worry about it to much.
Avatar f tn Nice... i think i should eat more kiwi... i think it could be just orange juice.. cause i have other sugary drinks sometimes and he has never kicked so much... unless its cause the kiwi... haha..
