Common Questions and Answers about Testosterone and nicotine

Avatar n tn This is a site regarding sexual and relationship information, so your question may need to be addressed elsewhere. As for patches, the only ones I'm aware of are nicotine patches for people who wish to quit smoking, and hormonal patches for women who don't wish to become pregnant. There may be others; but as stated, this isn't the place to find out that information Dr.
Avatar m tn My take on your situation is that your past smoking habits have had an effect, and it will take some time to clear your system. Also, e-cigarettes and vapor products will also be a problem because of their nicotine delivery. You also mention anxiety and this can be treated once you get to a doctor. Hopefully, you can get financial help for your health insurance, depending upon your income.
Avatar n tn I have never heard of nicotine making you impotent. Nicotine has a short half life - about two hours. You can do the math from there.
Avatar f tn smokeless tobacco contains all of the bad chemicals and nicotine that cigarettes do, but you absorb it in greater concentrations. the nicotine DOES end up in your milk, so you are feeding it to your baby. i do not recall how long it takes it to leave your system. if i find anything, i'll let you know. but i'm pretty sure it takes a while, so supplementing just a feeding probably isn't enough.

Avatar m tn I do have many types of symptoms, shaking, slow/slurred speech, frequent urination, fatigue, fogginess, heat intolerence, stumbling/tripping, etc. All of which I can or have in the past reasoned away with stress, caffiene, nicotine, and being 30 now and not 15 anymore. None of these symptoms are severe but when something like this diagnosis comes up you wonder if they really are normal or not. The doctor also thinks my left leg is stiff and my right arm/side is weaker.
Avatar f tn When I stopped smoking I went looking for nicotine withdrawal symptoms on the Internet because I was having panic attacks and I found out that nicotine does in fact have an effect on some meds. Of course, smoking also causes anxiety you know. If you google nicotine interactions, I think you will find the answer you're looking for. Good Luck!!
Avatar f tn I am going in for Bariatric Surgery and I am suppose to be nicotine free for 2-3 months prior to Surgery. I have slipped a few times and am wondering if the blood test would detect my slip ups from 2 weeks ago. I have been flushing my system with water and did a detox/cleanse kit from GNC to help. Also, if you are with people who are heavy smokers (my parents) and I don't smoke with them, would their nicotine/smoke get into my system that would screw up a nicotine blood test?
1541754 tn?1294331420 ADHD researchers have known for a long time that lots of adults with ADHD are heavy (often VERY heavy, actually) smokers. The drug in cigarette smoke, Nicotine,is a stimulant drug kind of like Dexedrine. So smoking is a way for people with ADHD to self-medicate their symptoms. Like Dexedrine, the nicotine you inhale in tobacco smoke makes you feel better; for example more alert and focussed and "calm" - less anxious, restless and impulsive and so on.
Avatar m tn I'm having some blood work done that will include a glucose test. The requisition form includes instructions to fast for 12 hours prior to the test, but does not mention anything about tobacco use, and I do unfortunately smoke. Perhaps to be safe I should abstain from smoking as well as food prior to the test, as nicotine could affect my blood glucose levels. But on the other hand, doesn't *nicotine withdrawal* also affect blood glucose levels?
Avatar m tn Among standard medications used for nicotine withdrawal are Chantix and Zyban (also known as Wellbutrin). Topomax and Neurontin are in investigational use for this purpose but still in clinical study. All of these medications could interact with psychiatric medications and some are used as psychiatric medications so your doctor would have to discuss this with your psychiatrist as well. You would also need to be more specific about the physical symptoms you are experiencing.

Avatar f tn i have blood work on the 21/dec /11 and how long does it take to get nicotine out of ur system before the bloodwork
Avatar f tn If they detect traces of something, can I claim I occasionally used a patch and/or nicotine gum, and get away with it? or would the nicotine from patches/gum show up differently in this test?
Avatar f tn 3 month ago I tried quitt smoking using an electronic cigarette and a liquid containing propylen glychol, high dose of nicotine(aprox. 18 mg) and alchool. After I started smoking this for 2 days I have begun havin anxiety, bizzare thoughts(very bizzare) wich I could control them but they were wery uppseting to me, I couldn,t sleep or eat properly and I had a allergy on my neck.
Avatar m tn I am 25 yrs old and consider myself a non-smoker. Just recently I had some blood drawn and urinalysis for employment purposes. About 4-5 days prior to the tests, my friend was Vaping (those electronic cigs) and offered me to try his new flavor. So I took a handful of puffs, not thinking about it. About 20 mins later it dawned on me that those still contain nicotine.
Avatar f tn Once you are addicted to nicotine one perceives that it calms them, when in reality they are getting their "fix" of nocotine which is addicitve. Not having something you're addicted to will cause anxiety, and when you get what you want of course you're calmer. I wouldn't expect this to be the same with a casual smoker.
497868 tn?1212223282 However if used in higher than recommended doses for long periods of time, you will become and remain addicted to the nicotine just as happens with cigarettes and, to a significant degree defeat the purpose of the gum. Your note suggests that you are committed to quitting. That commitment will go a long way towards your smoking cessation being successful and permanent. Your sleep disturbance is probably a nicotine withdrawal effect.
1588890 tn?1297073916 s a month ago, Percocet 10 for breakthru and Lyrica for my Fibro. I am trying to quit smoking and HATE that gum! Was thinking about the patch but was wondering if it was safe to have both on? Any suggestion?
669746 tn?1228599145 I have been smoking since I was 12 also and now i am 27 and still cant quit even though I have bad health anxiety and what does smoking do????....Causes cancer and other bad illnesses. Avatar f tn He told her that if she was not going to be able to quit cold turkey, which was obviously best, then it would at least be better to get the nicotine through replacement therapy rather than a cigarette as it would cut down on all of the other toxins and blood gas changes. That was 5 years ago, and things change, and every Dr. has their own permissions, so please call and ask them. As an ex-smoker I know it's very very difficult to quit.
Avatar m tn But long term use of testosterone and other steroids have transient effects and there is no scientific evidence that performance is enhanced. There is abuse liability so I would suggest you to follow up with a physician or endocrinologist for case to case prescriptions. Take care!
Avatar f tn Suboxone not only effects sex drive it effects Testosterone levels. There is a lot of misunderstanding of this out there. Viagra and Cialis without sex drive equals an erection that allows for sex but no satisfaction to the male if there is no drive. Low testosterone causes low sex drive and erectile dysfunction.
Avatar m tn Doctor said its bronchitis,DAT DAY I QUIT SMOKING COLD TURKEY,(NO NICOTINE SINCE THEN TILL DATE).Doc gave meds, and within 15 days, bronchitis was over. But then i went thru nicotine withrawal.Heart palpitations, strange tingling sensations, fatigue etc. In 1-2 months, most of d physical prob were over, but then came depression and ANXIETY.Its been 4 nd half months now and i still hav anxiety. Its ruining my life,I want it to b over, but dnt know how.
Avatar n tn The doctor checked my testosterone level due to and adverse affect of opiates, and I didnot have any. He put me on supplemental testosterone, but I have read it would come back naturally and taking supplements will stop the natural production of my testosterone. Anyone had this issue.
5793136 tn?1375294504 From what I've read things like alcohol and nicotine and medicine etc all pass through breast milk.. do you'd probably want to either not smoke or formula feed. But I'd definitely do some research or ask your doctor. I was unable to breast feed my son six years ago so I'm just going off things I have read since then.
