Temodar and radiation therapy

Common Questions and Answers about Temodar and radiation therapy

temodar

1515784 tn?1387197290 She had a surgical resection near the end of November and is currently in her third week of Proton Therapy and chemo with Temodar. Her tumor was in the right temporal lobe and the remaining tumor they couldn't remove (about 10 percent they said) is on her right insula. Hoping to chat with other people in the same boat as her. What if any side effects did you incur on Proton therapy? Did everyone who had proton therapy to their brain have to be on a steroid? Did anyone NOT lose hair.
Avatar f tn My husband has had 27 radiation treatments, then 11 rounds of Temodar 1 1/2 years later for a recurrence of the tumor. The tumor recurred in the 11th round of the chemo and he had Gamma Knife surgery (Aug. 2009). Now the tumor has recurred a third time and they are trying Temodar again. What other treatment options would you consider at this point?
Avatar f tn I am a 4 year AA survivor that had a craniotomy and proton radiation. Proton radiation treatment is targeted therapy that does not harm the good brain tissue. I’m told that gamma knife radiation is similar to proton radiation since I am aware that there are not many proton radiation treatment centers. I chose to live out of state for 6 months and I am still cancer free today with no regrowth and stable MRI’s.
Avatar f tn A month ago my husband (41) had a tumor resection of a GBM in the left temporal/frontal lobe. He is still recovering from surgery and has begun cancer treatment (temodar& radiation) a week ago. He has a previous accident injury where he has struggled with neck pain for ten years. He has been on suboxone for probably 7 years now. He is currently taking his suboxone but is not getting any relief for his head pain.
794236 tn?1238016706 The doctors are reccommending radiation (again) but because of the number and location of the tumors, the radiation will need to be very aggressive. We are very interested in any other courses of treatment that anyone may know of. There is also the possibility of another surgery on a tumor located at the base of his spine, but it is entangled in nerves and risky.
Avatar f tn s interpretation of this report is that your father has had a lot of radiation. The radiation has had a lot of side effects now - and they are showing up on the MRI. He has some necrosis - dead tissue. There is some calcification - hardening. He has some edema. The white matter changes can often be attributed to stroke but here they are saying it is radiation. He has no evidence of stroke.
Avatar n tn In the last four years the PSA has slowly crept higher reaching 0.577 in August of 2008. I recently scheduled radiation therapy with my radiation oncologist, but I am quite concerned about the side effects, especially permanent side effects. I am wondering if I am rolling the dice with a loss of quality of life, in trade for a possible three or four extension of life span. Could you please address these concerns. Thank you for your consideration.
Avatar n tn Dont know enough about radiation therapy to make a decision to have the treatment. Drs have strongly recommended to. Have researched on internet side effects. Need to know percentages for reoccurance with and without treatment. I do have other calsification sites in right and left breast not active. Very confused and worried about making right decision as to what to do next. This discussion is related to Radiation therapy only for DCIS.
Avatar n tn Hi I also have complex partial seizures which are being controlled w/anti seizure meds. Along w/1000 ml of Keppra I am taking 400 ml of Lamictal. I have a meningioma in the left petrous apex, meckle's cave and clivas... I had gamma knife radiation in 2002 and the tumor went from 2.6 x 2.2 x1.0 cm to 2.0 x 2.0 x .9 presently. The only symptoms I had at the time of diagnosis was left sided facial tingling. I now have epilepsy, trigeminal pain and severe headaches...
Avatar n tn I clicked on the thread that bluebutterfly kindly provided. It doesn't address the question of the original poster - which is the what are the long-term effects of radiation. These are extensive - radiation therapy has long-reaching effects on the body's systems - particularly if rec'd at a young age - I was under 20 - it caused my later breast cancer. It is the reason I am at substantial increased risk for stroke and heart disease (it causes hardening of the arteries).
Avatar f tn It seems to me that there is a lot more risk in taking tamoxifen for 5 years -then 5 - 8 weeks of radiation therapy, if that's the case, why would tamoxifen be recommended over radiation?
Avatar f tn My question is that I have talked to people who have had mastectomies and no hormone therapy. First I want to know if HT is standard care in my case and seocnd I want to know if HT is standard with mastectomies for my type of cancer. While I understand that you cannot anser this for me, I want to know if in some medical circles HT is omitted for my situation. I am asking becasue I want to know if it is worth it for me to seek a second opinioin.
Avatar n tn They do prefer radiation to begin the following week.
Avatar n tn Since the diagnosis of Glioblastoma grade 4 in August, my husband has had the tumor removed and completed the round of radiation and chemotherapy - temodar. Recently I have noticed him being very short fused and argumentative. The slightest thing sets him off as if he had been personally attack. I have also noticed depression setting in. I'm assuming this is all part of the treatment and diagnosis.
Avatar n tn It was Stage 0 - ductal carcinoma in-situ and the doctor is recommending radiation therapy... 6 weeks, 5 days a week. She was leaning toward the mastectomy to be done with it but he says for her age it's a very rough surgery to go through. She has now been told by a friend that her sister had radiation therapy for breast cancer and came down with rheumatoid arthritis as a result. I've tried to research this on line but find nothing on it.
Avatar m tn The overall survival was 47 percent and 37 percent, respectively. Radiation therapy also significantly reduced biochemical and local failure as well as the need for androgen ablation (or hormone therapy). A PSA rise at this point would not necessarily mean metastatic disease. It is not clear if distant micrometastases would evolve before PSA elevation. It could mean prostate tissue was left in the body (not necessarily a positive surgical margin but a capsular invasion) or micrometastases.
Avatar f tn He reassured me that the side effects from both radiation and drug therapy are minimal in the majority of the population. He told me that I was young (I said, "I'm 49!" and he said, "that's young!") and that I was relatively healthy and that I'm likely to handle the short term side effects very well. He agrees that the numbers show that the risks of long term detriments due to treatment are far outweighed by the risk of dying of cancer without the treatment.
Avatar m tn I have had radiation therapy for my hyperthyroidism (Graves Disease). I need to know what kind of supplements I should take. I have noticed that I am having trouble healing from some sort of infection, or healing from cuts etcs. https://www.google.com.
Avatar n tn I also had DCIS, with grade three cancer, and chose to have radiation treatment. My doctor had recommended it, and said that it is the usual treatment after DCIS, and with the grade of my cancer, he strongly recommended it. I checked with other physicians I knew, and they all agreed.

Avatar n tn Hi The radiation therapy that you received seven years ago for the breast cancer and the therapy you are receiving now for the rotator cuff injury are two different forms of radiation. The radiation therapy given for the cancer can over a long term lead to skin changes such as decreased elasticity, pigmentation changes, decreased skin thickness, decreased blood circulation etc. These changes can affect healing and sensations.
