Tekturna renin blocker

Common Questions and Answers about Tekturna renin blocker

tekturna

406399 tn?1201884300 Renin is an enzyme produced by your kidneys that starts a cascade of chemical steps that increases blood pressure. Tekturna works by reducing the ability of renin to begin this process. "Tekturna is unique because it acts earlier in your body's blood pressure regulation process than most other blood pressure medications. It also can be used well with the other major classes of blood pressure drugs to improve their actions," says Sheldon Sheps, M.D.
Avatar n tn Lisinpril can cause a chronic cough and you should stop this medication to see how the cough changes. It may be replaced with valsartan or candesartan which do not usually cause this side effect. The verapamil usually does not cause this side effect. This may not be related to your medications, and chronic cough or ' bronchial asthma' may actually be cardiac in nature ( e.g. CHF). Make sure your physician takes this other consideration into account.
Avatar m tn For some insight angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and the angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) drugs both affect the renin-angiotensin hormonal system which helps regulate blood pressure. Hope this is the information you are looking for, if not you are welcome to followup with another post. Thanks for the question and take care.
Avatar n tn t smoke, do exercise, am thin). My doctor put me on a diuretic, Tekturna and Bystolic, and within a week I had completely lost my sense of taste! Anyone else experienced this? I'm wondering if it's a side effect that will wear off if I just stick it out. The combination seems to be working well to lower my bp and hr but I'm losing weight (a bad thing) and really, really miss food!
1399363 tn?1462342610 hello. maybe some people already know but i just found out that beta blocker can caused hyperkalemia also it got interaction with insulin inhibitor and calcium. could someone explain more? it kind of confused me cause i thought and read that consume more potassium is important. and also i was thinking about the connection of BB to low blood presure, etc.
2093880 tn?1334813768 Thanks for your response! I'm glad to hear that it's not too uncommon to have all of those arrhythmia's on the 30 day summary. When I received the summary I was thinking "Oh my gosh, what else is wrong with me!" LOL The A-fib seems to occur without symptoms...well other than palpitations, but that doesn't really effect my life like the symptoms I feel with the tachycardia.
Avatar n tn MAYBE BECAUSE I AM DEALING WITH ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS COMPOUND ASSOCIATED TO ANGIOTENSIN-RENIN SYSTEM.
541196 tn?1293552936 check for adrenal disorders. Can anyone tell me about Plasma Renin Activity coming back high at 5.2?
Avatar m tn Hello and thank you for having this forum available for us. First off, I'm a male 22 years old. I have arterial hypertension for years already (130/80 earlier in childhood and recently 140/90 are the average figures BEFORE using BB for the treatment). I also have elevated levels of triglycerides that I'm compensating with high quality Omega 3s and once went for medicine to lower them for a bit. I believe it's all because of my genes that is, unfortunately, causing this all.
875426 tn?1325528416 Since my tumor was discovered, the first endocrinologist I saw ordered aldosterone and renin testing. It was a fasting test where both aldosterone and renin were low. One endocrinologist did not want to re-test these things as if even if they were low, he said there was nothing that could be done about it. I did just find online something about a test on rats where aldosterone is lower with fasting apparently. But I wonder if it makes aldosterone outside normal range?
Avatar n tn I recently had my aldosterone and renin checked. The results were: Aldosterone 17.2, Renin 0.1, Aldosterone/Renin Ratio 172.0. For years I've had low potassium and taking a potassium prescription which gets me into 'normal' range (4.2). When not on the prescription, I quickly fall out of 'normal' range. I'm also taking 25mg daily of Spironolactone for elevated BP. My BP now runs pretty low (100's over 70's).
1375380 tn?1278892326 I have just began taking a beta blocker for my dysautonomia (along with Florinef .1 2x day). I take no other medications except Lyrica for tingling. What can I expect to happen? I have orthostatic hypotension (not POTS) with pounding heart, tingling, and fatigue. Doctors can find no reason for my dysautonomia, and I have had every test run on the planet!
Avatar f tn The kidneys regulate the blood pressure by a hormonal mechanism called the renin angiotensin aldosterone mechanism. This is done by the juxtaglomerular cells in the kidney which produce renin, when the blood pressure falls. Renin in turn converts plasma protein angiotensin to angiotensin I which in turn is converted to angiotensin II in the lungs. Angiotensin II constricts the blood vessels throughout the body, thus raising the blood pressure.
Avatar n tn However my plasma renin activity and aldosterone are both high. I am visiting a nephrologist at the Mayo Clinic (Jax) next week to follow-up on the renin and aldosterone.
Avatar m tn Has she had her kidneys looked at as blood pressure can be effected by her kidneys as well - renin/aldosterone axis? Stress issues with BP - could even be an adrenal issue - low cortisol - those things would not be typical tested.
875426 tn?1325528416 I was looking over some old labs and some info on aldosterone and renin from a couple of sources. While one source says people with POTS w/hypovolemia have paradoxically low renin and aldosterone levels and the cause is not exactly understood- they hypothesize perhaps the kidneys are being denervated, another site says if aldosterone and renin are both low they think there could be a problem with the pituitary.
Avatar f tn This sounds a lot like my symptoms. I have primary aldosteronism. How is your potassium? Have you gotten aldosterone and renin blood tests?
Avatar f tn I think they need to test your renin and aldosterone... BTW - craving salt means usually that you need it and being at the bottom of the range is not a good thing IMHO. In my body (LOL), when I get wonkered, I tank in both. My tumor twin wonks out in K for no reason. I know another Cushie that does the same - No K, no reason. Yeah... I think they are treating the symptom, but not the source/cause. But that is just my whine. Care for a glass?
Avatar n tn They said everything was fine - gave me a bag of fluids and sent me home. My endo ordered an aldosterone and renin test while I was there. They said these numbers were fine too..but they seem low. 6:00 pm My Renin - 0.5 (0.2-1.6) My Aldosterone - 1.6 (less than 16) My Cortisol - 11 My blood pressures seem fine just a little high - the thoughts that I had was...is my cortisol level pretty high for early evening? Maybe because I wasn't feeling well.

Avatar f tn Has the doc run other testing like sodium, potassium and other cortisol testing - and adrenal testing like aldosterone, renin, antibodies, etc? Any imaging?
Avatar n tn ACTH is very picky - was it in a chilled tube and spun when you were there? Renin is the same. Keep urine jugs cold no matter what they say. Lab error plays a part in diagnosis here. Good luck.
Avatar n tn Also an unexplained always elevated RENIN (renin activity plasma -reaching over 12 ) meanwhile my kidneys have been looked at extensiveley and fine on all scans.
