406399 tn?1201884300 and I was put on a beta blocker from that point on.. as to stop the palps and control the b.p. / the Toprol xl and diovan both lowered b.p well and stopped the palps for me.. but iv been living life in pain and suffering for 6years now.. as the side effects from toprol and diovan are very harsh for me! I cant understand why a Doctor would go backwords and put me back on a medication that caused me problems before? seems strange to me !
541196 tn?1293552936 check for adrenal disorders. Can anyone tell me about Plasma Renin Activity coming back high at 5.2?
Avatar n tn However my plasma renin activity and aldosterone are both high. I am visiting a nephrologist at the Mayo Clinic (Jax) next week to follow-up on the renin and aldosterone.
Avatar n tn In addisson lab results can be normal or you can have low sodium, low chloride and high serum potassium, elevated BUN and plasma renin is increased . Usually there is hyperpigmentation.(but I'm sure you doctor figure out all this lab values, symptoms and signs).
Avatar m tn 1.8 ng/ml/h Reference Range: 0.6-4.3 Cortisol AM Result: 1.3 mcg/dL Reference Range: <1.8 (Low Dose DST Suppression) Adrenocorticotropin Hormone (ACTH) Result: < 5 pg/mL Reference Range: 7.0-50.0 Total Testosterone Result: 368 ng/dl Range: 262-1593 Free Testosterone Result: 12.3 ng/dl Range: 7.4-22.6 Luteinizing Hormone (LH) Result: 2.9 U/L Range: 1.0-9.
Avatar n tn t smoke, do exercise, am thin). My doctor put me on a diuretic, Tekturna and Bystolic, and within a week I had completely lost my sense of taste! Anyone else experienced this? I'm wondering if it's a side effect that will wear off if I just stick it out. The combination seems to be working well to lower my bp and hr but I'm losing weight (a bad thing) and really, really miss food!
Avatar m tn With an elevated bp, your doc should have tested renin and aldosterone. Sorry I was not clear. I would find another doc - they should treat the thyroid at that level.
Avatar f tn I had one high cortisol level so they done a dexamethasone suppression test which was normal and they did urine tests for pheo that were also normal. Renin, aldosterone and DHEA were not tested. I am awaiting a MRI after xmas to xheck for growth. I don't normally have this strong pain but today it has just come on me. I have been told I have suspected POTS. I am unsure whether going anywhere today would be worthwhile or should I wait it out until tomorrow when it is not on-call doctors.
Avatar f tn Plasma Aldosterone 35 ng/dl (normal until 31). When repeated, it was 47.5 ng/dl. Renin was tested to calculate ratio (Renin: 0,90 ng/ml/h - Ratio: 52.7). My doctor said I probably had an adrenal mass, and this would explain many things such as high BP. I started researching and learn quite a bit about hyperaldosteronism. So recently I had a CT scan which came back clear, apart from micronodules in my liver (all smaller than 5mm and a 2cm mass in my ovary). Adrenal glands clear.
541196 tn?1293552936 Can you please advise me what type of Dr. I should be seeing with these results and give me feedback as to what could be causing this over such a long period of time? I have posted October, December and March tests. I do blood test for my endocrinologist every 8-10 weeks due to a Prolactin producing pituitary tumor and Hashimotos. These CBC results are beginning to concern me greatly. October 2008 test Total WBC 10.5 (in range) 3.8-10.8 Neutrophils 69.3 H 42-63 Lymphocytes 24.
Avatar n tn Also an unexplained always elevated RENIN (renin activity plasma -reaching over 12 ) meanwhile my kidneys have been looked at extensiveley and fine on all scans.
541196 tn?1293552936 I should also mention that I had a Plasma Renin test done which came back as high at 5.2. They are looking into Adrenal Insufficiancy on me as I have been extra fatigued and easily stressed with sharp pain in the area of my adrenals during high stress. What direction do you recommend I go in next? And with which Dr.?
Avatar f tn Blood pressure is regulated in the adrenal glands, by aldosterone and renin and other hormones. If she has abnormal levels there, then she may have an issue with her adrenal glands that may need to be addressed. Has she done 24 hour urine tests to test metanephrines? They may be testing her for a pheochromocytoma or other disorder. There can be several endocrine disorders that can raise blood pressure.
Avatar n tn I wanted to add that I have had my thyroid and catecholamines tested; all were within normal ranges. My plasma renin activity and aldosterone were both high (9.6 ng and 40 ng, respectively). Thank you for your time and assistance.
875426 tn?1325528416 Since my tumor was discovered, the first endocrinologist I saw ordered aldosterone and renin testing. It was a fasting test where both aldosterone and renin were low. One endocrinologist did not want to re-test these things as if even if they were low, he said there was nothing that could be done about it. I did just find online something about a test on rats where aldosterone is lower with fasting apparently. But I wonder if it makes aldosterone outside normal range?
Avatar n tn I think - and this is only speculation - he ignored the ratio as your sodium and potassium were normal. My thinking for this is that renin and aldosterone control sodium and potassium, so I was thinking they would have to be somewhat off for the ratio to be off like that... so I find the ratio to be strange - I wonder how it is computed! I have had a couple of friends that lose K for *no* reason and pass out from the same.
Avatar n tn Best predictors were the presence of ascites and plasma renin activity (2). Associated with low plasma taurine levels in one study (9). Treatment: Quinidine sulfate is normally said to be contraindicated in patients with liver disease (8); however, in a placebo-controlled trial, the number of cramps decreased from 14 to 4 (vs. 12 to 12 in the placebo group) in patients treated with quinidine sulfate 400 mg/d; relief from cramps was associated with serum quinidine levels (7).
Avatar f tn Interesting about renin/aldosterone issue and not as much cortisol issue. What is ther treatment/symptoms for the low renin? I don't crave salt and swell worse if I try and supplement it and my BP is only high while on HC or pred. Renin was below range, aldosterone at the bottom. The renin was not addressed. I was told it was normal. I was told the sodium was low due to a dilutional state from all the swelling I have , maybe due to hypothyroid.
