tekturna

406399 tn?1201884300 and I was put on a beta blocker from that point on.. as to stop the palps and control the b.p. / the Toprol xl and diovan both lowered b.p well and stopped the palps for me.. but iv been living life in pain and suffering for 6years now.. as the side effects from toprol and diovan are very harsh for me! I cant understand why a Doctor would go backwords and put me back on a medication that caused me problems before? seems strange to me !
Avatar n tn t smoke, do exercise, am thin). My doctor put me on a diuretic, Tekturna and Bystolic, and within a week I had completely lost my sense of taste! Anyone else experienced this? I'm wondering if it's a side effect that will wear off if I just stick it out. The combination seems to be working well to lower my bp and hr but I'm losing weight (a bad thing) and really, really miss food!
541196 tn?1293552936 I went to the cleveland clinic and he shushed me when I told him about the test and my salt cravings. Said because my ACTH wasn't outrageously high there was NO WAY I could have adrenal insuffiency.
Avatar n tn However my plasma renin activity and aldosterone are both high. I am visiting a nephrologist at the Mayo Clinic (Jax) next week to follow-up on the renin and aldosterone.
875426 tn?1325528416 Since my tumor was discovered, the first endocrinologist I saw ordered aldosterone and renin testing. It was a fasting test where both aldosterone and renin were low. One endocrinologist did not want to re-test these things as if even if they were low, he said there was nothing that could be done about it. I did just find online something about a test on rats where aldosterone is lower with fasting apparently. But I wonder if it makes aldosterone outside normal range?
Avatar n tn I think - and this is only speculation - he ignored the ratio as your sodium and potassium were normal. My thinking for this is that renin and aldosterone control sodium and potassium, so I was thinking they would have to be somewhat off for the ratio to be off like that... so I find the ratio to be strange - I wonder how it is computed! I have had a couple of friends that lose K for *no* reason and pass out from the same.
Avatar f tn Interesting about renin/aldosterone issue and not as much cortisol issue. What is ther treatment/symptoms for the low renin? I don't crave salt and swell worse if I try and supplement it and my BP is only high while on HC or pred. Renin was below range, aldosterone at the bottom. The renin was not addressed. I was told it was normal. I was told the sodium was low due to a dilutional state from all the swelling I have , maybe due to hypothyroid.
Avatar n tn Lisinpril can cause a chronic cough and you should stop this medication to see how the cough changes. It may be replaced with valsartan or candesartan which do not usually cause this side effect. The verapamil usually does not cause this side effect. This may not be related to your medications, and chronic cough or ' bronchial asthma' may actually be cardiac in nature ( e.g. CHF). Make sure your physician takes this other consideration into account.
Avatar f tn Angiotensin II also stimulates the adrenal cortex to secrete aldosterone, which retains water and decreases the urine output, thus increasing the blood volume and the blood pressure. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn she did cortisol and thyroid and hormones thats it
875426 tn?1325528416 When his orthostatic intolerance and tachycardia first started, I asked a different endocrinologist if aldosterone and renin should be tested. He firmly said no, his pituitary would not affect aldosterone and renin, they function independently of the pituitary, or something to that effect. He ordered another MRI and wrote "pituitary failure" on the form. However, he knew my son had secondary adrenal insufficiency and was taking hydrocortisone.
Avatar n tn ve taken ACE inhibitors, ARBs, calcium channel blockers, and now the renin inhibitor and diuretic. Should I still take the thiazide diuretic and renin inhibitor?
Avatar f tn This sounds a lot like my symptoms. I have primary aldosteronism. How is your potassium? Have you gotten aldosterone and renin blood tests?
Avatar m tn Tests would be cortisol both free and serum, ACTH, renin, aldosterone and renin, antibodies and sodium and potassium. AI is a salt wasting disease so you would have low sodium and potassium would be effected as well. The diagnosis would be confirmed by a stimulation test.
Avatar f tn After reading about low potassium I have realized that they have never tested me for renin and aldosterone and the pituitary could be the culprit for the low levels. Surprise!! Surprise!! Which explains why 6 yrs ago I started with high blood pressure (no family history) then joint pain, numbness, weight gain, headaches, discovered the pit tumor etc. and now this. I agree...... I believe they are treating the symptoms and not the problem.
Avatar n tn They said everything was fine - gave me a bag of fluids and sent me home. My endo ordered an aldosterone and renin test while I was there. They said these numbers were fine too..but they seem low. 6:00 pm My Renin - 0.5 (0.2-1.6) My Aldosterone - 1.6 (less than 16) My Cortisol - 11 My blood pressures seem fine just a little high - the thoughts that I had was...is my cortisol level pretty high for early evening? Maybe because I wasn't feeling well.
612876 tn?1355514495 Thank you for this. You just took my day's research away from me! My son just had renin and aldosterone levels done two weeks ago (I asked for angiotensin II also, but that one wasn't done). His renin was normal, as was his sodium and potassium levels, but his aldosterone was very low, so his doc is now thinking of putting him on Florinef. I don't know if this is the best thing to do now, or not.
Avatar f tn Has the doc run other testing like sodium, potassium and other cortisol testing - and adrenal testing like aldosterone, renin, antibodies, etc? Any imaging?
Avatar f tn I have a laying and standing aldosterone and renin tests next friday - they forgot to do them when looking for adrenal insufficiency - I will let you know how they go.
Avatar n tn Learn to tell them that they need to look a the instructions before they draw, or I finally just got ticked off and brought ice in a zip lock sandwich baggie to the lab and make them rest the ACTH and renin on it and make them spin it while I am there. I am such a pain but I want my tests as accurate as possible as I am judged on them. My renin is high too. But I have no adrenals anymore... 25mcg? Ah... pfffft... What thyroid test is that based on?
Avatar f tn I had lab work done since I haven't been feeling well but I don't understand the Renin and aldosterone results. The dr claims these are normal, are they? I have a micro pit tumor 5mm last mri Jan of 2012 but dr thinks it's to small to be causing any effects Aldrostenedione S 66 range 30-200 DHEA-S 214 range 15-200 Aldosterone (S) 7.0 range <=21 Renin Activity 18 range (peripheral vein speciman Na deplete, upright Mean 5.9 range 2.9-10.8 Na replete. upright Mean 1.
Avatar f tn I checked with my local teaching hosp. and they have no neuroendo's. That'a Cincinnati. I will keep looking. I have an appt. with a pituitary center in Boston, but no doc here to carry out recommendations. I will try and find the links you mentioned. Hope I can find this. Did a saliva test and got off the Medrol/HC and by day 2, my stomach blew up, digestion shut down and I had edema all over.
212161 tn?1599427282 d first look at the kidney - looking at renal stenosis (a blockage in a kidney artery) which results in too much renin and aldosterone hormone. An MD would listen there for a bruit. If not that, then maybe a kidney infection, which can be tested in the urine The other hormone as a culprit would be adrenalines, as in a pheochromocytoma or super stress.
Avatar m tn when i wake up,i just go for toilet ,its appears dark in front of my eyes and i fell down ...my heart beat goes up when i stood up.i did not know what happened for few seconds.
Avatar f tn my son had blood work done for his adhd and the results came back saying he has high kidney enzymes.... what does this mean and what causes this??
Avatar m tn With an elevated bp, your doc should have tested renin and aldosterone. Sorry I was not clear. I would find another doc - they should treat the thyroid at that level.
