Avatar m tn The other possibility is of lichen planus which is a chronic immunological disease presenting with similar symptoms. Third possibility is of vitiligo which is a pigmentation disorder in which melanocytes (the cells that make pigment) in the skin are destroyed. As a result, white patches appear on the skin in different parts of the body. Diagnosis can be confirmed by external examination, blood tests to check skin cell count for melanocytes and biopsy of the skin patches.

Avatar m tn Since I was on tacrolimus only(as Mycophenolate causes TLC to go down in two occasion), sirolimus 1mg is started along with reduced tacrolimus(2mg BD, Tac level ~4.5). But the creatinine is still high(1.8). It seems some side effect of Sirolimus is also coming as the TLC is 3400 and platelet is 80,000. What do you suggest to bring creatinine under control? What is the way to determine the exact required dose of tacrolimus?
Avatar n tn Certain factors that may increase the chance of getting vitiligo can be inherited. In fact, about 30% of vitiligo cases run in families. Statistically, 10 to 20 percent of people who have vitiligo fully regain their skin color. This is true for the those who are young, whose vitiligo reaches its peak in less than 6 months and is located mainly on the facial area. I apply selsum blue 5 minutes before my shower everday. I also use oreganol oil super strenght orally, 3 drops in a glass of water, 3 times in a day. Hope these will work for all of us.. Good Luck!
Avatar n tn Dear Dr. Our 10 year old daughter has been complaining of night blindness. Its obvious that she doesn't see well in dim light, nor does she like bright lights. The retina specialist said our daughter has flecks of pigment in the peripheral retinas and that combined with her night blindness and vitiligo is 'highly suggestive.' He ordered an ERG and a visual field test. I was a bit too rattled to ask the Dr. highly suggestive of what?
Avatar m tn Both eyes had a schirmer test of 0. (interestingly though, a few days before at the vet, the schirmer test was 12 in both eyes). Now 6 weeks later, the right eye has a 6 and the left eye still has 0. The specialist reviewed all of the options with us - cyclosporine, pilocarpine or tacrolimus with sirolimus. She said that very rarely has she seen any dog respond to cyclosporine after not responding to tacrolimus.

358699 tn?1297646442 Is there any truth that Vitiligo may be caused by vitamin deficiencies? I have Vitiligo for over 25 years and have never been tested for vitamin deficiencies. My primary care physician did test my thyroid when I first met him when he noticed I had Vitiligo and I found out I have hypothyroidism. I am being treated for that but I've read that this autoimmune disorder may be caused by vitamin deficiencies and my doctor has never mentioned I should be tested.
