Avatar f tn I developed Vitiligo after going on Armour Thyroid although I don't think it was the Armour. When I was on Synthroid my T4 levels were good at 15. No one would keep me there after the "TSH" test came on the market. So I went on Armour to get the T3 I needed. As time has gone on the dr. keeps lowering my meds and I get more white spots with each lower level. I know they are related somehow because I went on Syn.
Avatar m tn Hello, For these dots the possibilities of lichen sclerosus and vitiligo should be ruled out. Lichen sclerosus is a chronic disease which effects usually the genital areas. The exact cause is not known and can be too active immune system and hormone problems. Some people have also proposed a genetic and hereditary basis of disease. Treatment consists of strong cortisone cream or ointment on the skin.
Avatar m tn Hello, If the spot is itchy then it can be due to ringworm or nummular dermatitis. If it is non itchy then vitiligo and lichen sclerosis needs to be ruled out. Avatar m tn So, I use the steroid cream two or three days in a row about twice a month and apply the protopic twice a day. I also use tea tree and vitamin E cream, and occasionally use a high acidophiles yogurt topically (it keeps the surface bacteria balanced). I have also started treatment with a acupuncturist and TCM practitioner. I have had rashes that I thought were jock itch for years but found no relief from over the counter or western doctors visits.
Avatar m tn Diagnosis is by skin biopsy and treatment consists of topical and intralesional steroids, tacrolimus and CO2 laser. Severe cases may require surgical intervention. The other possibility is of lichen planus which is a chronic immunological disease presenting with similar symptoms. Third possibility is of vitiligo which is a pigmentation disorder in which melanocytes (the cells that make pigment) in the skin are destroyed.

Avatar f tn Autoimmune diseases occur when these reactions inexplicably take place against the body own cells and tissue by producing self-reactive antibodies. In vitiligo, the autoantibody is directed against the melanocytes. http://www.aarda.org/patient_information.
358699 tn?1297646442 My primary care physician did test my thyroid when I first met him when he noticed I had Vitiligo and I found out I have hypothyroidism. I am being treated for that but I've read that this autoimmune disorder may be caused by vitamin deficiencies and my doctor has never mentioned I should be tested.
Avatar m tn Hello, From the symptoms you should consult a dermatologist and get vitiligo ruled out. It is a pigmentation disorder in which melanocytes (the cells that make pigment) in the skin are destroyed. As a result, white patches appear on the skin in different parts of the body. Diagnosis can be confirmed by external examination, blood tests to check skin cell count for melanocytes and biopsy of the skin patches. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn My opth has diagnosed me with blepharitis, I use sterilid w/ compresses and take flaxseed oil, and I also use preservative free eyedrops for moisture. However nothing has worked to my satisfaction besides tobradex which I've used for about a year and half- my eyelid inflammation is pretty severe even with the other treatments, however w/ tobradex my symptoms are almost nonexistent.
Avatar m tn To have a second opinion we went to an another dermatologist he said it is not vitiligo and is 100 % curable this may be because of thyroid / liver problem and suggested LFT and thyroid tests. Now am totally confused what to do, what all tests (another than the mentioned above) should we do so as to know the actual cause. Is there any tests / specific symptoms for vitiligo ?

Avatar n tn White spots on the body may suggest a fungal infection, pityriasis alba, and vitiligo. Vitiligo presents as white patches which may occur symmetrically in both sides of the body. The borders are well demarcated. As for fungal infections, it presents as white patches of skin with a central scaling. It may not be stark white unlike vitiligo. Pityriasis usually involves children. They present as diffuse patches of whitish spots. I suggest you have this assessed by your dermatologist.
1578576 tn?1297133437 Update: Yes, there is a relationship. I now have both vitiligo and alopecia areata. The doctors have confirmed that there is a relationship as well as the alopecia areata registry. In case anyone has the same question...now you know :) Thanks! This discussion is related to Relationship btw Alopecia areata and Vitiligo?.
Avatar f tn First I noticed vitiligo on my inner wrists and a small amount near my mouth. Then a year later was diagnosed as hypothyroid. Next, I seem to not have the general health I used to -- find I'm much more susceptible to viruses, etc., even ending up with shingles at one point. Seems like my immune system is failing me in several areas. Anyone else with Hashimoto's experiencing this same pattern? Any suggestions to halt or slow down this decline?
Avatar m tn White skin patches may have fungal infections, pityriasis alba and vitiligo as differentials. These are differentials that you may need to consider for any hypopigmented areas on the skin. Is there any scaling involved?
Avatar f tn m a 48 year old female and have developed flat brown splotchy hyperpigmentation on my face and arms. What is this? Is it hormonal? How do I get rid of it and prevent more? I also have areas of depigmentation (small white spots) all over my arms and legs. Again, what is it and can I get rid of it and prevent more? I'd appreciate any information about causes and potential treatment options. Thank you.
Avatar f tn 19 year old male began having depigmentation around eyes, mouth, side of torso, full thumbs, and on finger tips at 18 years old. Dermatologist and GP think vitiligo but no visible improvement from prednizone 50 mg, betamethasone dipropionate .05% topical, elidel pimecromlimus cream 1%. Biopsy of skin on finger stated “a normal density of epidermal melanocyte which argues against vitiligo. No fungal, organism or increased much were found.
Avatar n tn Current treatment options for vitiligo include medical - topical steroid therapy , oral and topical psoralen photochemotherapy and depigmentation using hydroquinone; surgical-autologous skin grafts and micropigmentation, and adjunctive therapies- sunscreens and cosmetic products.' You can get a thyroid function test done if you feel it is required in consultation with your doctor. You could read more about this condition at the following links - http://www.medicinenet.
