667923 tn?1421462724 I have been experiencing intense pain, numbness on the whole left side of body. The weakness has been so bad that I can't even move my left hand or foot.I felt like a 40lb. weight was laying on my hand and foot to keep it from moving. I felt like I was having a stroke and after doing research on it, I did. Maybe it was an Ischemic attack or TIA. I have had 3 or 4 of these attacks and don't want to wind up having a full blown STROKE.
Avatar m tn It's summer and in Texas that means 90s and above. My three cats live on my back porch (screened in). I noticed my youngest cat was drooling and panting. Concerned, I let her into the house. After about an hour and some cold water, she was fine. Could it have been heat stroke? To prevent it I've been letting the cats stay inside during the day and making sure they have cold water to drink. Any other tips or advice?

Avatar f tn My 17 yr. old male cat starting showing some strange symptoms recently, and rather suddenly. He stopped going up and down stairs, stopped getting on the furniture, seems to have weakness or lack of coordination in his hind legs, paces, does not meow, purr or groom. We took him to the vet and after an examination the vet felt he had high blood pressure and that he appeared blind. She could not get his eyes to respond to light. She put him on medication and took blood and urine samples.

Avatar n tn Check to see if the pupil (the black part of the eye) constricts (gets smaller, and in cats, more slit-like) or remains the same. If it remains the same, this could signal a problem with the brain (such as stroke, intracranial pressure, etc) or the eye structure. Another question you might ask yourself is if kitty may have ingested something that she should not have.
Avatar f tn I'm up in MN visiting relatives this weekend. I went over to Heide's...the home of 3 cats. After being in her apartment and enjoying the company of Mitze for half an hour or so, I had to whip out the Benadryl because I was getting nasal congestion. After about an hour and a half my asthma started acting up so I had to use my rescue inhaler. Meds held me over until I left. My cat allergy isn't cured, but I'm much, much more tolerant of cats.
Avatar f tn I had read yesterday a paper stating there is abundant experimental evidence that repetitive spreading depression contributed to the evolution of infarts in pre-infart tissue in rats and cats; and that BBB disruption may accompany stroke, trauma, and migraine. Also, there was a report which stated that repetitive migraines increases infarct/stroke risk. Yesterday on the news they discussed cortical spreading depression causing migraines with aura.

Avatar f tn You should also wear gloves while gardening to prevent any contamination from parasites spread by feral cats. Interestingly, cats only shed the parasite for a very limited time after they contract toxoplasmosis. You can contract toxoplasmosis from eating undercooked meat or by not thoroughly cleaning utensils and surfaces that were in contact with the contaminated meat. There have been some cases of infection from blood transfusions. Good luck...
207091 tn?1337709493 Hi, I'm not really sure what the symptoms could be, but I honestly don't think it's seizures or a stroke. Seizures you would've noticed twitching and loss of bowel or urinary control. A stroke would've affected one side of the body only, and she wouldn't have recovered so quickly. This could be a thyroid problem, or diabetes. You can try taking her food away for 6-8 hrs so she'll be ready to get tested for diabetes as soon as you get to the vet's office.
Avatar n tn Her butt was up in the air and her tail is curled over at the base of her tail, almost like female cats stand when they are in heat. I pet her and she growled and hissed. Then she jump off the bed and I didn't see her for a couple of hours. Later when she did show up, her lower back is very low to the ground when she walks with her tail still curled and her gate is very slow and stiff especially on the right hind leg. She doesn't want me to touch her or pick her up.
Avatar n tn When we went outside this morning, we found one of our outdoor cats just sitting outside in the cold for some reason (it got down to just under 20 degrees F overnight although it might've gotten just a little colder than that with wind chill), and he didn't look very good, he was just kind of sitting there and swaying back and forth very slightly, so we went outside to take a look at him and see if he'd been hit on the highway or anything, but there appears to be no cuts or scratche
Avatar f tn We thought she just went to sleep in the shade and died from something like a stroke or heart attack. We at the time had a stray dog that later killed one of our young cats, Shadow. No marks, no punctures...he evidently shook her. We have since thought that might have happened to our precious Masena as well. With cats, don't trust dogs until you are sure you can.
Avatar n tn My sister is 60 years old. A month ago she had some kind of spell that started out with her falling and cussing. The neurologist thought it was a confusional migraine because one of the symptoms is vulgar language. She was given vallim which didn't calm her down and then was given morphine. She was in a deep sleep with no reponse for 8 days. When she awoke it was for about 1 1/2 days. Then she had a heart attack and stroke.

Avatar m tn Two days after my cat had teeth removed he became partley blind and he just keeps walking and walking. Had him back to the vet and he may have had a stroke. He does eat his food but continues to keep Walking all the time. I feel that it would be best to put him down. We had him for 12yrs. And it would not be fair to keep him in his state. I feel it is the right thing to do. He is the last of three cats we had and two were put down.
Avatar f tn One of my cats is FHV1 positive and presents chronic and recurring symptoms of viral respiratory infection and occular discharge. FHV1 is not curable. There have been some limited studies on the efficacy of using famciclovir for cats with FHV1 and results were favorable and the drug was well tolerated but they were short term studies with only a few cats. My focus has been more on bolstering my cat's own immune system with l-lysine and probiotics.
