691463 tn?1227419054 we have an elderly cat of 17, he is suddenely much more lethargic than usual, as if in a daze and drooling heavily, we wonder if he may have had a stroke, he experienced something like a seizure couple of weeks ago.

She is drinking but not eating well know. she still gets around the house well and still uses the litter box. She walks well no limbing ect like i here stroke victims have. The only vet nearby is gone till Jan 3rd. They were unable to draw blood because she became to stressed.
207091 tn?1337709493 Hi, I'm not really sure what the symptoms could be, but I honestly don't think it's seizures or a stroke. Seizures you would've noticed twitching and loss of bowel or urinary control. A stroke would've affected one side of the body only, and she wouldn't have recovered so quickly. This could be a thyroid problem, or diabetes. You can try taking her food away for 6-8 hrs so she'll be ready to get tested for diabetes as soon as you get to the vet's office.
Avatar n tn When we went outside this morning, we found one of our outdoor cats just sitting outside in the cold for some reason (it got down to just under 20 degrees F overnight although it might've gotten just a little colder than that with wind chill), and he didn't look very good, he was just kind of sitting there and swaying back and forth very slightly, so we went outside to take a look at him and see if he'd been hit on the highway or anything, but there appears to be no cuts or scratche
Avatar f tn We thought she just went to sleep in the shade and died from something like a stroke or heart attack. We at the time had a stray dog that later killed one of our young cats, Shadow. No marks, no punctures...he evidently shook her. We have since thought that might have happened to our precious Masena as well. With cats, don't trust dogs until you are sure you can.
Avatar m tn Two days after my cat had teeth removed he became partley blind and he just keeps walking and walking. Had him back to the vet and he may have had a stroke. He does eat his food but continues to keep Walking all the time. I feel that it would be best to put him down. We had him for 12yrs. And it would not be fair to keep him in his state. I feel it is the right thing to do. He is the last of three cats we had and two were put down.
Avatar f tn You should also wear gloves while gardening to prevent any contamination from parasites spread by feral cats. Interestingly, cats only shed the parasite for a very limited time after they contract toxoplasmosis. You can contract toxoplasmosis from eating undercooked meat or by not thoroughly cleaning utensils and surfaces that were in contact with the contaminated meat. There have been some cases of infection from blood transfusions. Good luck...
Avatar n tn VET asap! It could be lots of things, but the walking in circles and glassy eyes sounds like symptoms of a concussion. Cats don't always land on their feet and lots of them climb dangerous places. If she fell when you weren't around you wouldn't know. Concussions are very dangerous, but very treatable. Go now!
Avatar f tn ll notice that my right pupil is larger than the left. Should I be worried that these are like stroke symptoms or something else? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn They suggested an MRI, but since she would have had to go under and there was a good chance they would either confirm a stroke or not find anything, we opted out for now. I think she had a stroke either right before or during her trip to the vet for constipation. She's still living with my parents for now (we have another cat and want to keep separate for her safety) who are taking great care of her as she learns to navigate around without hurting herself.
Avatar f tn My 17 yr. old male cat starting showing some strange symptoms recently, and rather suddenly. He stopped going up and down stairs, stopped getting on the furniture, seems to have weakness or lack of coordination in his hind legs, paces, does not meow, purr or groom. We took him to the vet and after an examination the vet felt he had high blood pressure and that he appeared blind. She could not get his eyes to respond to light. She put him on medication and took blood and urine samples.
Avatar f tn Thanks. I did indeed take my cat to an emergency vet. They said it is Horoner's syndrom and could be from stress, or even worse, a lesion in his central nervous system. He is being monitored closely since the symptoms were so sudden. I've just never seen anything like it before, and I have had cats my whole life.
Avatar n tn Possible stroke? Cats do get them, had to put down our Calamity Jane after she went through a pair of strokes. Was recovering nicely from the first one with a treatment the vet recommended, but the second was just too massive.
Avatar f tn I am not trying to scare you but a stroke is rather serious. Do some research and if you think the symptoms match up force her to see a doctor. whether she believes in them or not this could save her from having a more serious stroke, which could do anything from paralyzing one side of the body or even death. I'm sorry to scare or worry. As I said, I may be wrong, this is only a best guess from a college student, who works with children and took a first aid and cpr course.
Avatar m tn s huffed and coughed since day one, we put this down to hairballs because of the length and amount of fur. We groom him and stroke him a lot to try to prevent this and also give him special treats which help prevent hairballs. Still he huffs and puffs and pukes up enormous hairballs. It worries me every time.Recently he's started to get mouth ulcers and scabs around and in his mouth.
1721122 tn?1309327385 How long can an indoor/outdoor female cat live if she is loved and cared for by a loving family of three, one mom, one little sister, and one big sister, plus a three month old female lab puppy, a parakeet, three chickens, and two other cats in a small log house in a twenty one acre forest?
Avatar m tn Certain medical conditions need to be considered like a transient ischemic attack, stroke, alzheimer’s disease and depression. Once stroke and TIA are ruled out, she may be assessed by a psychiatrist depending on the protocols in the hospital. Take care.
Avatar n tn I just realized I did not tell you but they are cats. They appear to be fine except for the weakness. They eat, play, get into trouble and use the litter box and I have noticed nothing untoward in their daily activities. Shadow, the male, is king of the house and his appetite is a little more open - as in what I eat.
