Common Questions and Answers about Stroke symptoms cats

Avatar n tn It is good that her blood pressure and tests done were fine. Stroke symptoms typically start suddenly and in most cases do not progress. This could indeed be age-related, but if it persists, you may need to have this checked for proper management. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), hyperglycemia (high blood sugar), hypertension (high blood pressure), seizure activity, heart problems are all symptoms of stroke in cats.
207091 tn?1337713093 Hi, I'm not really sure what the symptoms could be, but I honestly don't think it's seizures or a stroke. Seizures you would've noticed twitching and loss of bowel or urinary control. A stroke would've affected one side of the body only, and she wouldn't have recovered so quickly. This could be a thyroid problem, or diabetes. You can try taking her food away for 6-8 hrs so she'll be ready to get tested for diabetes as soon as you get to the vet's office.
633670 tn?1389227011 I know that Omega 3 fatty acid can be a useful supplement for cats that have had stroke. There isn't a lot of information out there, but I am going to go ahead and include a link to a site that seems useful. Much luck. Let us know how it goes, ok?
Avatar n tn I am not a medical professional - just a person who has had a few neurological glitches. The first symptoms sound like seizure activity, to me. The language, numbness sounds strokish. My second stroke set off seizure activity and they couldn't figure out what was going on because it was not "typical" seizure and not "typical" stroke. Later, they found that I had a stroke that set off the seizures. The CTScan, as usual, didn't find the stroke.
Avatar n tn I just found out that high levels can cause stroke! I also recovered very quickly and have no residual symptoms. I do have to say that having a baby is definitely motiviation to get better quickly.
Avatar f tn My 17 yr. old male cat starting showing some strange symptoms recently, and rather suddenly. He stopped going up and down stairs, stopped getting on the furniture, seems to have weakness or lack of coordination in his hind legs, paces, does not meow, purr or groom. We took him to the vet and after an examination the vet felt he had high blood pressure and that he appeared blind. She could not get his eyes to respond to light. She put him on medication and took blood and urine samples.

Avatar n tn I started years ago with neck problems. (neck hurt went to chiropractor) After the birth of my second child, I had stroke like symptoms on my left side. I kept having different symptoms that fit MS. The first MRI was normal but dr. said that it was early and might not show up yet. I have been treated for MS all this time. In the past few years, I have been getting paralyzed on/off when I lay on the back of my head.
Avatar n tn Sorry to hear about your symptoms. From your description, it doesn't sound like the symptoms are from parkinson's nor do they appear to be characteristic of MS, although it could still be a possibility. A formal neurological exam that shows objective findings consistent with weakness or sensory changes as well as any other clinical deficit would help point towards an appropriate diagnostic workup.
Avatar f tn I am needing any feedback, as to whether anyone else seems to have or have had recurring stroke like symptoms, 3years after a small stroke. 8years ago, att 39 yrs old I was a senior manager at a large uk ftse company, I had a massive nervous breakdown. This was due to 20years of 15hour day 6days a weeks workaholic lifestyle, in business management and also running my own parttime business as well as working for private and public companies.
Avatar n tn This was after excluding dental issue, eyestrain or problems, TMJ, stroke, etc (fI have a serious family history and PAD, personally). The muscle relaxant my md gave me to try for a week last spring worked the best for the pain, but put me to sleep so I discontinued it. I went to a neurologist in August bec of 5 months of pain. It is located in front of ears, behind jaws, radiating up to eyes and down to throat--adams apple and the back of my neck feels stiff.

Avatar n tn I'm a 26 year old male and since October 2006 have been experiencing 24-7 sinus pressure in the upper corners of my nose (always one side at a time), but NO allergy symptoms (i.e. no running nose, sneezing, coughing, itchy nose/eyes/throat, etc). The pressure is so bad that it presses back onto my brain, causing terrible lightheadedness, forgetfullness, and general mental impairment.
Avatar f tn Running out of places to look, doctors to see, and patience. Hard to say when symptoms all started, some have gone on too long or started too gradually to notice until bam, they'really there. Others have gone one about 3 years, or started and increased just the last 6 months. 7 months ago I finally started seeing a Dr after only having Healthcare while pregnant (2x) in the last 20 years. It took that long to have health coverage AND be in a situation where it was doable for various reasons.
691463 tn?1227422654 we have an elderly cat of 17, he is suddenely much more lethargic than usual, as if in a daze and drooling heavily, we wonder if he may have had a stroke, he experienced something like a seizure couple of weeks ago.
Avatar n tn Now that i am 24 i have reacted to some peoples cats and i owned a cat about 9 years ago with no problems. My symptoms will include itchy eyes, runny noes and sneezing, burning itch on sensitive areas like my face and neck if i touch them. Also i have asthma symptoms like shortness of breath and wheezing after exposure for more than 10 min. Do allergies change with age, and what exactly am i allergic to from these pets?
Avatar n tn Option 2 - call your vet, you usually get their receptionist. Tell the receptionist about your cat's symptoms. These symptoms would be concerning to me ask them what they recommend based on your cat's symptoms. Good luck finding out what's going on with your kitty.
Avatar n tn Her butt was up in the air and her tail is curled over at the base of her tail, almost like female cats stand when they are in heat. I pet her and she growled and hissed. Then she jump off the bed and I didn't see her for a couple of hours. Later when she did show up, her lower back is very low to the ground when she walks with her tail still curled and her gate is very slow and stiff especially on the right hind leg. She doesn't want me to touch her or pick her up.
Avatar n tn When we went outside this morning, we found one of our outdoor cats just sitting outside in the cold for some reason (it got down to just under 20 degrees F overnight although it might've gotten just a little colder than that with wind chill), and he didn't look very good, he was just kind of sitting there and swaying back and forth very slightly, so we went outside to take a look at him and see if he'd been hit on the highway or anything, but there appears to be no cuts or scratches on him, he
Avatar n tn The neurologist thought it was a confusional migraine because one of the symptoms is vulgar language. She was given vallim which didn't calm her down and then was given morphine. She was in a deep sleep with no reponse for 8 days. When she awoke it was for about 1 1/2 days. Then she had a heart attack and stroke. She had heart surgery and her heart doctor has dismissed her but she is back into her deep sleep.
Avatar n tn It could be lots of things, but the walking in circles and glassy eyes sounds like symptoms of a concussion. Cats don't always land on their feet and lots of them climb dangerous places. If she fell when you weren't around you wouldn't know. Concussions are very dangerous, but very treatable. Go now!
Avatar n tn From your description, I now believe one of my childhood cats must of had a stroke.
Avatar f tn 25 predinsone and Vititan B6 to treat possible stroke. She suddenly when blind 3 days ago and lost her hearing yesterday. She is drinking but not eating well know. she still gets around the house well and still uses the litter box. She walks well no limbing ect like i here stroke victims have. Avatar n tn You don't mention how old your cat is. It could have even been a stroke. No matter what it turns out to be this is truly and emergency. If my cat were having those symptoms I would be calling the after hours emergency animal hospital. There are no tips anyone could give you for this. There are no home remedies for something this serious. Please if you haven't already take this kitty to the vet. Don't think that because he is purring he is ok. Cats can and do purr when in pain.
Avatar m tn He's huffed and coughed since day one, we put this down to hairballs because of the length and amount of fur. We groom him and stroke him a lot to try to prevent this and also give him special treats which help prevent hairballs. Still he huffs and puffs and pukes up enormous hairballs. It worries me every time.Recently he's started to get mouth ulcers and scabs around and in his mouth.
Avatar n tn Possible stroke? Cats do get them, had to put down our Calamity Jane after she went through a pair of strokes. Was recovering nicely from the first one with a treatment the vet recommended, but the second was just too massive.
Avatar f tn He is being monitored closely since the symptoms were so sudden. I've just never seen anything like it before, and I have had cats my whole life.
1303813 tn?1303162962 Most likely it is URI (upper respiratory infection), very common in cats and kittens under stress and highly contageous to other cats/kittens. In other words, if one kitten developed it, the others will get it. The good news is that if treated appropriately, it is rarely life threatening,. The vet will probably prescribe a course of antibiotics. It is also important to make sure the kittens stray warm.
881363 tn?1499245213 Petting his back makes the skin near his tail (approx 1/3 of his back) wrinkle and roll, twitching, with one stroke. he will tolerate about 3 before he nails someone. I can rub his face & belly all day long and he begs for more! He is highly aggresive with other cats, too. He has spells when he attacks his own tail and back foot violently, hissing and growling, spitting - sounds like all 3 cats are fighting but its just him,a normally silent cat. this has been diagnosed as seizure activity.
