t been on medicine for it since college. Starts out with my former medicine, strattera, but when I would take it I felt my heart was out of control and my blood pressure went up. Now on wellbutrin for about a week but I feel foggy and it is causing worse ibs. Not sure if that side effect will go away but giving it a try. My question is, if anyone can answer, why was I able to take strattera as a child with 0 side effects and then high heart rate etc now.
Hepatotoxicity is possible, though of course not probable, with Strattera, and lab work would be ordered before starting it and during tretament with it. In the 3+ years between January of 2005 and April of 2008, a number (6) of caes of liver illness were reported to the FDA. I would suggest talking with the prescribing clinician and reviewing the options. There are alternatives in addition to Strattera.
Typically, if you are getting side effects, it may be because your dose of Strattera is too high. This is something that you need to discuss with your doc.
Any reason you went with Strattera instead of a Methylphenidate type of stim medication?
No, I would not try klonopin in the morning. Something like Tenex might be helpful. Tenex, "Can be given 2 or 3 times/day. May need 1-2 weeks to build up. Helps tics, hyperactivity. Does not cut appetite.
Read up more on Strattera. It can take 2 to 4 weeks to take effect. 40mg is a middle dose. Guidelines say "Based on weight, 0.5 to 1.5mg/kg, target 1-1.4 mg/kg" for the dose. So yes, you may want to up the dose.

I have not noticed any improvement in my ability to concentrate or remain organized since starting the strattera, however my anxiety is gone and I am finally happy.
A couple weeks ago my Dr. left and I was given a "temp" to take her place. Today I had an appt to get my prescriptions and my "temp" said that he couldn't justify writing me a scrip for both my adderall and the strattera.
My daughter is nearly 11 years old and has been taking Concerta (now on 36mg) since March. The doctor recommended a switch to Strattera for the reason that it works 24 hours (Concerta is effective for only 12 hours) and will help my daughter concentrate more. I have no idea whether Strattera is a better alternative, can anyone tell me if this is true?

But this would be easy to check with B-12 lab test.
I went to another doctor and asked for adderall (since the first doctor would not prescribe anything else but strattera). It works a lot better. I take the minimal dose and find it works better than strattera. I usually take a 5mg in the morning and another 5mg around 1pm. I don't believe there is anything that is perfect though, but it definitely takes the edge off if you know what I mean.
When i was about 5 or 7 years old thats when my doctor told my mom i have ADHD. My doctor gave me to take Vyvanse and Strattera. The Vyvanse i take is 60mg capsules and for Strattera i take 60mg capsules to. I had problems over the years. I get distracted very easily but i try not to look or be distracted but its hard sometimes. especially when people are talking, making noise and being annoying is distracting me. There are other stuff i turn my attention to though.
The pediatrician started her off with 18mg Strattera. The results were immediate and amazing. For the first time ever she would sit and do her homework (alone) without getting constantly distracted. A math paper that would previously have taken an hour or two to get through suddenly was done in minutes. She also stopped getting into trouble with her teachers, and was SO cooperative at home. No arguments, frustration, or tantrums for weeks!!!
Yes it will take a while for the Seroquel to build up to an effective dose as i was just started. Also Strattera can as an adverse side effect sometimes increase or cause aggression so although you should leave the dose of all medications in place it would be essential to discuss this with the doctor or psychiatrist who is prescribing the medications. My son developed Raynard's Phenomen after taking Strattera. Weaning him down on the dosage reduced the symptoms. His hands otherwise where blue, white, and cold through out the day. He had a reaction from the stimulants and can not take them. HAs anyone used accupuncture for controlling ADD symptoms?
If not, either the medication is not the correct option, or the dose is not the best dose. Try to figure this out with the prescribing doctor. Strattera can be a good choice for children who do not respond well to a stimulant medication, or for children who cannot take Ritalin (e.g., if they have a history of seizures).
The Adderal XR was effective at combating my ADHD symptoms but made my anxiety worse, so my doctor prescribed Strattera. I found the Strattera to be not nearly as effective as Adderal XR, so without consulting my doctor, I began taking both medications together. This is working extraordinarily well. The Strattera seems to ease my anxiety while slightly reducing ADHD symptoms and the Adderal XR nearly eliminates the remaining ADHD symptoms.
My son is 11 yr old, has ADHD/ODDand IED and they also say border line asperger syndrom. He started off with strattera, then switch to stimulants ritalin, and vynasse. Stimulants was horrible for him became very violent. He was on strattera and rispedorol and all he did was wake up eat and sleep. The medication was effecting his motor skills, his reaction time was very slow, like his reaction in the game was horrible, and he had alot of twitching and tics...

According to the web, Strattera carries with it a "black box warning" - the most serious warning a prescription med can carry and still be on the market - that strattera has been linked to suicidal thoughts in children.
I agree with Margy - I would call that doing terribly on strattera. I'm not quite sure what behaviors strattera has helped with, but a child with new suicide thoughts are about the worst thing I can think of.
Strattera is a non stimulant med used for ADHD. Whether or not it would be effective for you, I don't know.
