My doctor has me on welubturon 150mg, strattera 25mg and klonopin 1mg. The klonopin for sleep. I love the way the other two make me feel throughout the day. Focused, happy. However, I work for a gym and my physical abilities are very important as they are my job. Ever since I've started the strattera, I'm only able to give about 60% and I still feel flu'ish. Weak, sick, cold sweats. That's not me. They want me to try this for three weeks.
He also has ODD, my question is what medication can we try him on now that will MAYBE help with both? We have tried the Tenex smallest dose possiblr 1/4 pill in am. And he just could not function. I was wondering about Vyvanse or Focalin XR what is actualy know about the benefits ( if any) for treating someone with ADHD & ODD. Any imput would be helpful.
My 8 hr old grandson was the same way. He was taking 25 mg of Strattera. He was getting VERY whiney and tempermental. He is now on Vaynesse. He is more in control during the day. His whining has calmed down alot. The only problem is at night like after 6pm he gets whiney and tempermental again. He doesn't want to go to bed very good, which some of it is probably him. It is like he is coming down off of it. Other days he is fine. I am ready to go back to the Strattera.
If my ADHD son was on Tenex and now we've taken him off of it because of side effects; but we see mood swings, anger, depression, jealousy, angry words coming back once he was off of it, what would the next medication suggestion possibility be to replace it. He's on Adderall for ADHD but the above came back when he was on nothing, between Tenex and Adderall. He is five which complicates things.
I've been prescribed adderall for the past 4 years, I currently take 75mg per day. A couple months ago my Dr. started me on strattera in conjunction with my adderall. I have not noticed any improvement in my ability to concentrate or remain organized since starting the strattera, however my anxiety is gone and I am finally happy.
A couple weeks ago my Dr. left and I was given a "temp" to take her place.
Yes, your son's reactions of being defiant and emotional are normal for a child with a learning or mood or anxiety disorder. Do keep in mind these disorders are the results of physical issues in the brain and are not caused from life experiences. By the way, I assume your son has been diagnosed with ADHD - the usual reason for the meds prescribed. I'm wondering if there might be more help for you on the ADD/ADHD forum. All the best ...
I just very recently read that Guanfacine (brand name Tenex, and the extended release Intuniv) may be something I could be looking into...do you have any other suggestions for drugs I should look into/research and mention to my doctor???

Social anxiety:
I first tried Paxil (high school) and that worked pretty good for the social anxiety.
I believe that my child has a behavorial issue. She has emotional outbursts and loses her temper really easy. If she gets upset, there is nothing we can do to snap her out of it. Sometimes I do something to distract her and she forgets that she was mad. She says mean things to her sister and grandmother. If she gets in the "zone" nothing I tell her phases her. She will not follow directions and does not care if she gets spanked.

since sunday he has been very irritable and aggressive, with very frequent outburst of screaming constantly, hitting himself in the head and bitting, pinching, hitting, kicking, pushing, and scratching himself and others...the tenex kicks in some we can tell but he truly acts like he can not control it and seems like withdrawl from the risperdal which his dr did not tell us to taper off of it at all...we are worried please help!
my question is recently we have been perscribed tenex for him his ocd has took over his daily living and its breaking my heart, i think we tried tenex years ago and it did the reverse.. al adhd meds do the opposite on him,

he wakes up just screaming and hitting and biting himself. throwing himself on the floor and can not calm himself down. he sees a lady at the specialty clinic but has really been no help. she put him on tenex but it is a sleeping aid. i have done almost everything to get answers and nothing is comming of this..
(1) The Strattera success rate is not as high as stimulants to control ADHD (2) When there is a side effect with Strattera the risk is much higher of how serious the side effect will be due to the fact that this med impacts the liver and also the lawsuits seem to be much more serious than the lawsuits for stimulants. My husband decided that we should not change to Strattera.
Started Prevacid and also Strattera for ADD. We were able to wean off of the Prevacid and just stick to Strattera, as our peds thinks the Strattera helps him with the anxiety related to the GERD, and therefore he had no complaints of symptoms of GERD. In March we went off of the Strattera, and within 4 weeks the symptoms of GERD re-appeared ( Not eating, coughing, feeling like something is caught in his throat.) We went back on Strattera and Prevacid.
My son was on Vyvanse and Clonodine for a long time and it was a life saver. He has ADHD and ODD as well. The doctor wanted to try Tenex. We did that for several weeks and I begged to go back on Clonodine. Tenex was awful for us! Clonodine is fantastic and helps him go to sleep at night!

Whenever a doctor prescribes a medication for a child, the parent would do well to investigate its side effects of the medication. ADD medications can be very nasty, and that includes Strattera.
In a case like this I would definitely investigate alternative medicine for the treatment of your child. The answer may be acupuncture which has no side effects. Do whatever works.
I am a 24 year old female and began taking Strattera 6 or 7 months ago. It seemed effective at first, but was wearing off so we increased from 80mg to 100mg a little over a month ago. A few weeks ago, within minutes of swallowing the pill, my heart began to hurt very, very badly (my throat, too) that basically incapacitated me from doing anything and left me trying to vomit it out. This chest pain lasted for about 1.5 hours.
my 14 year old daughter was diagnosed with ADD. doctor put her on 25mg. strattera for a month and then up to 40mg. In 4 months she has lost 28lbs. she is down to 90 lbs. and is 5'6". She has excelled at school but now we are scared about her weight. doctor dropped her back down to 25mg. She has trouble falling asleep and staying asleep and has alot of anxiety. Therapist just labeled her anorexic. Is there anyway to get her appetite back and still take meds?
i have had increased sweating since this past summer it seems like I perspire at every opportunity I've been on well butrin and Strattera at the same time I am currently tapering down the Strattera I was wondering if anyonee Experienced sweating extra from strattera?????
I have stopped prozac as well.. I was on it from 2006-2008 after switching from Zoloft ( it pooped out) In the spring of 2008, I began having hot flashes and heart palpitations. I was 39 at the time, so I thought it may be perimenopause. I also was having light/scant menstrual cycles. I did, however, add strattera to the mix which may have caused problems ( Strattera and Prozac are chemical cousins and sometimes don't play well together) I added the strattera under my pdocs supervision.
