Strattera common side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Strattera common side effects

strattera

Avatar n tn The most common side effects I've heard or seen in others is an increase in water retention, and feelings of dehydration. Creatine draws water from the body into the muscles and can make them appear slightly bloated. This will diminish once you've stopped taking the supplement, as will some of the weight you've gained. I recommend adopting a better diet for optimal muscle growth. There are plenty of meal plans made for bodybuilders on the net.
Avatar f tn Whenever a doctor prescribes a medication for a child, the parent would do well to investigate its side effects of the medication. ADD medications can be very nasty, and that includes Strattera. In a case like this I would definitely investigate alternative medicine for the treatment of your child. The answer may be acupuncture which has no side effects. Do whatever works.
Avatar f tn My question is, if anyone can answer, why was I able to take strattera as a child with 0 side effects and then high heart rate etc now. Im thinking it was the benzo withdrawal but I have no experience with that either so Idk. Also, with wellbutrin I dont have the heart rate just feel sleepy and foggy mind. Any help would be appreciated and forgive any typos. I'm on my phone.
Avatar n tn HI molly I am on strattera and I have zero side effect. However, I have a friend who has been on strattera and had to stop it because of the itch. Tell your doctor asap.
Avatar m tn One of the side effects that my child shows is that she bites and pulls her nails. Yesterday, I noticed that you suggested Strattera to another mom for tics. Our doctor told us also to change to Strattera.
Avatar m tn My son also could not take the Strattera due to side effects, but the side sffects are in the same category as SSNRI's. A lot of people just can't take them. Some have no problems. I am interested in the Provigil because he does well with stimulants. Hope negive finds this info useful too.
Avatar f tn I would take her to a pediatric psychologist for a second opinion. It sounds like she is being medicated for the side effects from the Strattera and she may be over stimulated.
Avatar n tn Suppressed appetite is the most common side effect of stimulant medication, so it is not surprising that this is happening. Often with adolescents, because of the natural increase in growth, this is not a big problem. Such is not the case with your son. If he has not been tried on the non-stimulant Strattera it might be a good alternative to the Concerta.
Avatar n tn My daughter is nearly 11 years old and has been taking Concerta (now on 36mg) since March. The doctor recommended a switch to Strattera for the reason that it works 24 hours (Concerta is effective for only 12 hours) and will help my daughter concentrate more. I have no idea whether Strattera is a better alternative, can anyone tell me if this is true?
Avatar n tn i've been on stelazine for about a year now along with the rest of the meds i started strattera about last month...
Avatar m tn It is working for his ADHD but it has loads of side effects (and he cannot take any of the stimulant type meds). We are not sure what to do about the semen leakage. He, understandably, is embarrassed about this and has started to wear diapers to work to protect his clothes. Is this the best option? Anyone has suggestions. He has decided to deal with the side effects bc of the clear benefits to his ADHD so I want to support him, we are just not sure what options are there.
Avatar n tn I've been on strattera for two weeks and the only strong side effect I seem to have is that I get really tired or fatigued around 2:00pm. Will this side effect subside over time? Is there anyway to lessen it? I've tried other ADD medications however because they are stimulants I tend to get really agitated or even a little paranoid when I'm on them so I am hoping that Strattera works out ok. Are there any other non-stimulant ADD medications?
Avatar n tn i feel tired all the time how much longer should it take for the effects to kick in?
Avatar m tn Hello again, "Anybody have experience like this or with these meds?" The following is all just my opinion. Everyone reacts to medicine differently: Concerta is an extended release form of Ritalin. Which is what I took when I was a kid. It is still a stimulant but it is much milder than Adderall. I think more doctors should start patients Concerta because it has fewer side effects than Adderall.
Avatar n tn t want to play around with newer drugs with side effects I am afraid of. i know how the amphetamine adhd meds makes me feel and I am working now and doing fine but in a few days I will be out. I won't meet him (my psychiatrist)for another month. How can I get him to let me be on adderal instead of Strattera when he is afraid I will get addicted?
Avatar f tn The evidence is overwhelming that the treatments are safe. Now, does this mean that there are no possible side effects? No. It is more a question of weighing the possible benefits of the treatment against the possible side effects. The most probable (vs possible) side effect of the stimulant medications is appetite suppression, particularly during the middle of the day. If you consider the use of these treatmenmts, be sure to talk about the side effect profile with the prescribing clinician.
889551 tn?1416184483 No strattera does not work as well. Depression is very common with ADHD. Very possible your depression Meds could be lowered if you find the right stim med. very good link here explaining the inter relationship. https://m.youtube.com/watch?
702147 tn?1289832370 She is very depressed and has cut herself. I know as a teenager, you can go through a depression, but reading side effects Srattera can cause it. We are in counseling. We are also going to a Psychologist to discuss her medication, it doesn't seem to be helping her anymore. She started complaining about having a hard time breathing and her chest hurting when track conditioning started. At one point thought it could be allergies with the school be all shut for the winter.
Avatar f tn I see why you did that, as you were apparently treating withdrawal problems, but start up side effects are pretty common. Some of these go away as your body gets used to the drug and some don't, and it's a very individual thing. But it isn't anything particularly attached to just these two drugs, it's all of them. Even aspirin eats the lining of the stomach. So these might go away with time and they might not. Only time will say.
Avatar m tn I've been a 120 mg of strattera 2 days per doctors orders and I feel REALLY stupid. Will this go away?
Avatar n tn at the same time i noticed that my appetite had decressed,my throat stayed dry and i was having trouble falling asleep. i know that those three things are common side effects. eventually my ability to easily fall asleep came back, but my appetite has not. the appetite thing is not much of a problem because i always have been some what of an overeater. since starting the drug i have gone from 210 lbs to 192 lbs. this makes me worry a little bit but not much since i wanted to lose weight anyway.
Avatar f tn t play well together) I added the strattera under my pdocs supervision. I had to stop taking the strattera because it gave me the hot flashes.I stopped Strattera in Feb of 07. In November of 2008, I tapered off Prozac. I was ok for about 9 months. Then, in August of 09, I started having anxiety issues.. Not really mental anxiety, but physical anxiety.. My insides felt like they were running on overdrive, kind of like an engine at high idle.
Avatar n tn Did you read the side effects of those drugs on the web???? Why would anyone give a teenager stratera?...It has been know to cause suicides. I think you should look at her diet. MSG has 13 other names (research on web) and causes neurological problems along with anxiety. Get her diet off of all processed foods..go back to fresh vegetables/fruits. Microwaving foods effect the brain also. Grains have mycotoxins in them which causes neurological problems.
Avatar n tn Strattera® (atomoxetine hydrochloride) is a prescription medication used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). There are a number of possible side effects with Strattera, and weight loss is one that appears to occur commonly. For some people, this may be a good thing. For many people, however, unintended weight loss can be a problem. For example, weight loss can be a problem in growing children.
