I have stopped prozac as well.. I was on it from 2006-2008 after switching from Zoloft ( it pooped out) In the spring of 2008, I began having hot flashes and heart palpitations. I was 39 at the time, so I thought it may be perimenopause. I also was having light/scant menstrual cycles. I did, however, add strattera to the mix which may have caused problems ( Strattera and Prozac are chemical cousins and sometimes don't play well together) I added the strattera under my pdocs supervision.
My 8 year old grandson has been on strattera and prozac for a year now. About a month ago he starting acting out in very strange ways. He pooped on the floor in the school bathroom and blamed it on someone else, then urinated in the school bathroom and swears in wasn't him. He went into his grandfathers barn and threw plastic bins of collectibles all over and broke things, then took mail out of neighbors mailboxes and threw it in the water in the ditch.
i started tapering him off and some most of these have calmed down at a quarter of the dose, strattera is a non stimulant and works like an antidepresant wellbutrin but is for kids too..frontline has a series on the medicated child on www . pbs. org, you should really check this out, it is scary!!! deals with kids being on physc meds...
At age 5 he was diagnosed with pretty sever ADHD. We started on Strattera and after two weeks he violently attacked me...We then went to Concerta then to Focalin then back to Concerta....not ever obtaining great control of ADHD.
He additionally was put on Prozac about a year ago for anxiety as he was chewing the skin off his fingers until they would bleed and chew huge blisters on his lips.
Three weeks ago, the Psychiatrist added in Intuniv...OH MY GOSH...
I've been prescribed adderall for the past 4 years, I currently take 75mg per day. A couple months ago my Dr. started me on strattera in conjunction with my adderall. I have not noticed any improvement in my ability to concentrate or remain organized since starting the strattera, however my anxiety is gone and I am finally happy.
A couple weeks ago my Dr. left and I was given a "temp" to take her place.
Hi all my doc just prescribed straterra and i will be stopping adderal. Adderal made me super paranoid and angry. Anyone know anything about strattera? Any experience? I'm afraid my add is going to skyrocket since Addy is obviously stronger. I took adderal for about two and a half months.

Every so often I'll feel bursts of electric pulses. I feel them in my upper head, the tip of my tongue, my palms and the soles of my feet.
Standing up triggers them. Turning my neck from side to side, especially to the left, also triggers them. Often they just happen on their own, though.
Each pulse is a fraction of a second, but they come in bursts of three to five.
I can hear them, they sound like bursts of static, not too loud.
They're not painful, just distracting.
I want to try stimulants because I understand they usually make the biggest help for people with ADD (and Strattera might interfere with the 20 mg daily of Prozac I already take), BUT I am concerned that Stimulants may exacerbate my mvp symptoms which flare from time to time (rapid/fluttery heartbeat with accompanying anxiety/panic attack type symptoms). I was given Xanax to help with the panic attacks/rapid heartbeat a long time ago before I was actually diagnsoed with MVP by echocardiogram.
My doctor has me on welubturon 150mg, strattera 25mg and klonopin 1mg. The klonopin for sleep. I love the way the other two make me feel throughout the day. Focused, happy. However, I work for a gym and my physical abilities are very important as they are my job. Ever since I've started the strattera, I'm only able to give about 60% and I still feel flu'ish. Weak, sick, cold sweats. That's not me. They want me to try this for three weeks.
(1) The Strattera success rate is not as high as stimulants to control ADHD (2) When there is a side effect with Strattera the risk is much higher of how serious the side effect will be due to the fact that this med impacts the liver and also the lawsuits seem to be much more serious than the lawsuits for stimulants. My husband decided that we should not change to Strattera.
Started Prevacid and also Strattera for ADD. We were able to wean off of the Prevacid and just stick to Strattera, as our peds thinks the Strattera helps him with the anxiety related to the GERD, and therefore he had no complaints of symptoms of GERD. In March we went off of the Strattera, and within 4 weeks the symptoms of GERD re-appeared ( Not eating, coughing, feeling like something is caught in his throat.) We went back on Strattera and Prevacid.
Parker at CorePsyc and asked about the possibility of an interaction between the strattera and the zoloft. Doubt that he answers emails over the weekend, but we will see if he gets back to me.
Does your little guy do better if he has lots of physical activity. Many times that can be very helpful. And by that I mean to run him as much as possible.
Oh, do let the OT know what meds he is now on as that might effect things.
Whenever a doctor prescribes a medication for a child, the parent would do well to investigate its side effects of the medication. ADD medications can be very nasty, and that includes Strattera.
In a case like this I would definitely investigate alternative medicine for the treatment of your child. The answer may be acupuncture which has no side effects. Do whatever works.
I am a 24 year old female and began taking Strattera 6 or 7 months ago. It seemed effective at first, but was wearing off so we increased from 80mg to 100mg a little over a month ago. A few weeks ago, within minutes of swallowing the pill, my heart began to hurt very, very badly (my throat, too) that basically incapacitated me from doing anything and left me trying to vomit it out. This chest pain lasted for about 1.5 hours.
my 14 year old daughter was diagnosed with ADD. doctor put her on 25mg. strattera for a month and then up to 40mg. In 4 months she has lost 28lbs. she is down to 90 lbs. and is 5'6". She has excelled at school but now we are scared about her weight. doctor dropped her back down to 25mg. She has trouble falling asleep and staying asleep and has alot of anxiety. Therapist just labeled her anorexic. Is there anyway to get her appetite back and still take meds?
i have had increased sweating since this past summer it seems like I perspire at every opportunity I've been on well butrin and Strattera at the same time I am currently tapering down the Strattera I was wondering if anyonee Experienced sweating extra from strattera?????
I googled strattera and zoloft and most of what i found says that it is ok to take them together. (you should also do the same, so you can see what I read).
Not sure where you read about the chocolate, but that would be news to me. She really shouldn't be consuming enough tea or coffee at her age to make any difference. But that is something to ask your doctor.
You can google concerta and strattera and see the comparisons. There is a difference.
Then, about 2 ½ years ago I had a near-psychotic meltdown, mostly about the devil and evil spirits, and was diagnosed with OCD and prescribed Anafranil and Zyprexa, which helped with the irrational thinking and obsessive thoughts a little. Between now and then, I have been diagnosed with OCD, Social anxiety disorder, GAD, major depressive disorder, ADHD, and most recently, aspergers/high functioning autism.
According to the web, Strattera carries with it a "black box warning" - the most serious warning a prescription med can carry and still be on the market - that strattera has been linked to suicidal thoughts in children.
I agree with Margy - I would call that doing terribly on strattera. I'm not quite sure what behaviors strattera has helped with, but a child with new suicide thoughts are about the worst thing I can think of.
I have been on Pristiq 100mg for 3 months, Wellbutrin 150mg for 5 weeks and we added Strattera 40mg. Pristiq for PMDD, Wellbutrin for motivation and Strattera for focus. Separately they help each thing only. So was wondering if anyone else is on a combo like this and it’s helped. And how long. I seem to be anxious more lately before adding Strattera....hoping this helps it. No libido what so ever.
Anyway my Doc gave me Strattera and the 3rd day on it I felt dizzy and confused, I felt over anxious and felt like I was loosing my mind. I had been on dexadrine years ago for depression after a hysterectomy at age 27 and I told him that my life came together on it but he gave me Strattera. I told him I really wasn't feeling the Strattera and could i please get enough adderal until the Strattera kicked in. He originally had boo hooed any narcotic adhd meds.
I've been a 120 mg of strattera 2 days per doctors orders and I feel REALLY stupid. Will this go away?
I have adhd/anxiety/ibs-d. I was on librax for two years and did not know it had librium. My fault for not researching the medicine. After I realize that I am developing a tolerance I stop taking it and try something else. My GP thinks my ibs is because of my adhd\anxiety but I haven't been on medicine for it since college. Starts out with my former medicine, strattera, but when I would take it I felt my heart was out of control and my blood pressure went up.
