Common Questions and Answers about Strattera and eating disorders

strattera

Avatar f tn My step-daughter is on Strattera, Intuniv, and Zoloft. I have heard many things and was wondering if it was normal for her to be on all three?
Avatar n tn Started Prevacid and also Strattera for ADD. We were able to wean off of the Prevacid and just stick to Strattera, as our peds thinks the Strattera helps him with the anxiety related to the GERD, and therefore he had no complaints of symptoms of GERD. In March we went off of the Strattera, and within 4 weeks the symptoms of GERD re-appeared ( Not eating, coughing, feeling like something is caught in his throat.) We went back on Strattera and Prevacid.
Avatar f tn t know what kind of a doc you are seeing, but I think that I really would recommend a good psychologist to help her get over some of these other issues. She needs to be a willing partner in her eating problem and it may take some counseling for her to realize this. Finally, this is a very good site on ADD that has lots of good information. It is something that she also should read so that she really understands what is happening to her and that she is not the only one with this problem.
Avatar m tn I've been prescribed adderall for the past 4 years, I currently take 75mg per day. A couple months ago my Dr. started me on strattera in conjunction with my adderall. I have not noticed any improvement in my ability to concentrate or remain organized since starting the strattera, however my anxiety is gone and I am finally happy. A couple weeks ago my Dr. left and I was given a "temp" to take her place.
Avatar n tn Is it safe to take Adderal XR and Strattera at the same time? I only have a two week supply of Strattera remaining and I'm very much dreading going back to my old self. If it is safe to combine both medications, what should I say to my doctor?
Avatar m tn Not fully true, i failed this morning for amphetamines after starting strattera a week ago and having clean drug tests before today.. After doing some digging i found theses http://www.hindawi.com/journals/crips/2013/381261/ http://www.ehealthme.

Avatar f tn My 8 year old grandson has been on strattera and prozac for a year now. About a month ago he starting acting out in very strange ways. He pooped on the floor in the school bathroom and blamed it on someone else, then urinated in the school bathroom and swears in wasn't him. He went into his grandfathers barn and threw plastic bins of collectibles all over and broke things, then took mail out of neighbors mailboxes and threw it in the water in the ditch.
Avatar n tn It is one of the side effects of Ritalin perhaps you should ask your Doctor for a new evaluation of the Med, if you ever decide to let him be on Natural Remedies, it has been shown in studies that food supplements have the same efficacy as Ritalin and a Muliple Vitamin-mineral with B Complex and Vit C also Fish oil, would be good, a lot of Parents are trying this now and their children and not getting the bad side effects that Ritalin and the other meds have.
1912514 tn?1322167588 I am sure this is not a mental illness like anorexia because i have never had any doubting thoughts or worries about my appearance. this has started recently and im concerned on what it may be. i just feel sick and weak and i am lost. help?
Avatar f tn Unfortunately something went horribly wrong and he could not swallow food afterwards! So a feeding tube was used and then removed after three long years. He can eat but very very slowly cause he chokes soooo severly on everything! He can only swallow with his head tilted to the right also. His appetite still has never returned, so wanting to eat is almost gone! Is there anything that can help with this?
Avatar f tn If you have extreme hunger and are overeating during the day as well, and are concerned about your weight perhaps I would consider an eating disorder, but it sounds more medical or nutritional to me.
702147 tn?1289832370 Many times its due to the AD/HD and how it affects them in school and among friends. Strattera is not as effective as the normal stim meds. It may well be that she is suffering in school and the pressure is beginning to get to her. It might be time to consider a milder stim med like Ritalin - as long as her heart/lung docs agree. Please do keep us posted. Best wishes.
Avatar f tn My doctor has me on welubturon 150mg, strattera 25mg and klonopin 1mg. The klonopin for sleep. I love the way the other two make me feel throughout the day. Focused, happy. However, I work for a gym and my physical abilities are very important as they are my job. Ever since I've started the strattera, I'm only able to give about 60% and I still feel flu'ish. Weak, sick, cold sweats. That's not me. They want me to try this for three weeks.
Avatar f tn Parker at CorePsyc and asked about the possibility of an interaction between the strattera and the zoloft. Doubt that he answers emails over the weekend, but we will see if he gets back to me. Does your little guy do better if he has lots of physical activity. Many times that can be very helpful. And by that I mean to run him as much as possible. Oh, do let the OT know what meds he is now on as that might effect things.
Avatar m tn Are they referring to people with active eating disorders who are in a compromised medical state and more prone to seizing, or will anyone who has ever had an eating disorder be denied this med? I am not asking for Wellbutrin because of the weight loss side effects- 100% honest!!- but instead for its apparent success rate. Finally, do I simply ask my doctor to prescribe it for me? Or would they have to recommend it?
Avatar m tn (1) The Strattera success rate is not as high as stimulants to control ADHD (2) When there is a side effect with Strattera the risk is much higher of how serious the side effect will be due to the fact that this med impacts the liver and also the lawsuits seem to be much more serious than the lawsuits for stimulants. My husband decided that we should not change to Strattera.
Avatar m tn s a list of all new medications that are approved and used off label as mood stabilizers that a mood disorders specialist would and could prescribe: http://www.psycheducation.org/depression/meds/moodstabilizers.
979428 tn?1253399601 He is having a hard time getting his son to eat and/or gain weight. He sees a county doctor, so it is not much of a partnership as it is the doctor telling him what to do. The doctor's office has expressed a concern over his son's weight and my friend is at a loss about what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions? He thinks the medication is Strattera. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn i started tapering him off and some most of these have calmed down at a quarter of the dose, strattera is a non stimulant and works like an antidepresant wellbutrin but is for kids too..frontline has a series on the medicated child on www . pbs. org, you should really check this out, it is scary!!! deals with kids being on physc meds...
311086 tn?1224728918 Got a call from the doctor today who immediately ordered me to stop taking Strattera. Apparently the symptoms described are a mild allergic reaction and can cause severe problems w/ my liver (which i now have to get tested). They are, instead, putting me on Ritalin :/ I'm not too happy about that one.
Avatar n tn My daughter has Autism and, as a result of her sensory issues, only eats an extremely limited number of foods. She will not eat in unfamiliar or "smelly" places (many food smells bother her). She will not eat foods that are broken (crackers, french fries), the "wrong" temperature, or the "wrong" color. She will actually go very long periods of time without eating before she will eat something that she deems "wrong.
