Common Questions and Answers about Strattera add

strattera

Avatar f tn Strattera is a non stimulant med used for ADHD. Whether or not it would be effective for you, I don't know. This site lists almost all possible treatment options. Although for some reason, I couldn't find Strattera listed, so you need to google that. The site is http://www.healing-arts.org/children/ADHD/medications.htm And the following site also lists (with info) non stimulant meds (they do mention strattera). http://www.baltimorepsych.com/NonStimulants.
Avatar f tn Whenever a doctor prescribes a medication for a child, the parent would do well to investigate its side effects of the medication. ADD medications can be very nasty, and that includes Strattera. In a case like this I would definitely investigate alternative medicine for the treatment of your child. The answer may be acupuncture which has no side effects. Do whatever works.
Avatar n tn Started Prevacid and also Strattera for ADD. We were able to wean off of the Prevacid and just stick to Strattera, as our peds thinks the Strattera helps him with the anxiety related to the GERD, and therefore he had no complaints of symptoms of GERD. In March we went off of the Strattera, and within 4 weeks the symptoms of GERD re-appeared ( Not eating, coughing, feeling like something is caught in his throat.) We went back on Strattera and Prevacid.
Avatar f tn Strattera is not a psychostimulant. Ritalin, Metadate Anderall are. Strattera is anothr type of medicine for ADD that doctors usually use when the stimulants do not work. Strattera rate of working is not as high as stimulants.
Avatar f tn she did diagnose me as having add but wanted to try strattera until i was off suboxone completely which i suppose i understand. she also said that maybe i should consider treatment for my anxiety even though i told her my anxiety most definitely stems from my add symptoms. she told me that if the strattera didn’t work that we can explore the options of stimulants. so i tried the strattera for a week and did not notice any benefits just side effects plus it’s very expensive.
Avatar f tn We had our daughter on Strattera 40mg a non- stimulent for ADD, as she has ADD, we have taken her off the medication, she was on it for 12months+, had tried Concerta before this, however our daughter couldn't sleep at night while on Concerta, we don't feel the benefits have been great on Strattera. I live in Australia and Homeopathy isn't supported by mainstream Doctors. Thanks again for your time.
990354 tn?1307132886 I have been on both strattera and adderall. Adderall is very addicting to this (me) addict. The strattera didnt give the buzz adderall did. ALSO many people have reported adderall increased depression. I hope this helps. Congrats on getting off the opiates. YOUR AWESOME !!
Avatar m tn ve been prescribed adderall for the past 4 years, I currently take 75mg per day. A couple months ago my Dr. started me on strattera in conjunction with my adderall. I have not noticed any improvement in my ability to concentrate or remain organized since starting the strattera, however my anxiety is gone and I am finally happy. A couple weeks ago my Dr. left and I was given a "temp" to take her place.
Avatar f tn According to the web, Strattera carries with it a "black box warning" - the most serious warning a prescription med can carry and still be on the market - that strattera has been linked to suicidal thoughts in children. I agree with Margy - I would call that doing terribly on strattera. I'm not quite sure what behaviors strattera has helped with, but a child with new suicide thoughts are about the worst thing I can think of.
Avatar n tn I've been on strattera for two weeks and the only strong side effect I seem to have is that I get really tired or fatigued around 2:00pm. Will this side effect subside over time? Is there anyway to lessen it? I've tried other ADD medications however because they are stimulants I tend to get really agitated or even a little paranoid when I'm on them so I am hoping that Strattera works out ok. Are there any other non-stimulant ADD medications?
Avatar m tn i currently take strattera , which has mild effects at best. however i am thinking about getting ritalin prescribed . i have a very good job where i am routinely drug tested via Urine and Hair. will ritalin casue a fasle positive drug test? half the internet sites say no the other half say yes.
Avatar m tn My 9 y/o daughter was diagnosed with innattentive ADD this fall. She has become so distractable that she can't stay focused in class, at homework time or for really anything. The pediatrician started her off with 18mg Strattera. The results were immediate and amazing. For the first time ever she would sit and do her homework (alone) without getting constantly distracted. A math paper that would previously have taken an hour or two to get through suddenly was done in minutes.
Avatar n tn Im a 34 year old female just diagnosed with ADD. my dr out me on strattera because of an existing heart problem. I started it 5 days ago. the 1st day i took it at 8am. by 12 i couldnt keep my head off my desk. and i killed my scalp with my letter opener. i felt like i had bugs all in my head. the next day i took it at 1pm. same thing. im taking it later at night so i can hopefully sleep through all of the "bugs". has anyone else had itching as a side effect?
Avatar n tn My daughter is nearly 11 years old and has been taking Concerta (now on 36mg) since March. The doctor recommended a switch to Strattera for the reason that it works 24 hours (Concerta is effective for only 12 hours) and will help my daughter concentrate more. I have no idea whether Strattera is a better alternative, can anyone tell me if this is true?
209987 tn?1451935465 Not sure what the pills I tried last time were called. It was over 12 years ago if that helps. As for the anxiety pills I've been on a long list...effexor, paxil, xanax, ativan ( which I call the demon pill...it's the one that kept me in hospital having one panic attack after another). I've just looked up this Strattera...I figure if they won't give me champix to help quit smoking then they probably won't give me the Strattera either...Why?
702147 tn?1289832370 My daughter is 16 years old and has been taking Strattera since 3rd grade. I wondering if anyone else is exhibiting any of these issues with this medication after puberty. She is very depressed and has cut herself. I know as a teenager, you can go through a depression, but reading side effects Srattera can cause it. We are in counseling. We are also going to a Psychologist to discuss her medication, it doesn't seem to be helping her anymore.
Avatar f tn Is Strattera a better stimulant drug for ADD than the others as far as not making schizophrenia symptoms worse? I am considering trying Strattera and have heard that it is the only non-narcotic available for ADD. I also have breathing problems and faintness at times which is a concern with ADD drugs and schizophrenia drugs as well... If anyone has tried this drug for ADD and has Schizophrenia and has had no problems with it I'd like to know about YOUR experience with it before I try it...
Avatar f tn my 14 year old daughter was diagnosed with ADD. doctor put her on 25mg. strattera for a month and then up to 40mg. In 4 months she has lost 28lbs. she is down to 90 lbs. and is 5'6". She has excelled at school but now we are scared about her weight. doctor dropped her back down to 25mg. She has trouble falling asleep and staying asleep and has alot of anxiety. Therapist just labeled her anorexic. Is there anyway to get her appetite back and still take meds?
Avatar f tn I am a 24 year old female and began taking Strattera 6 or 7 months ago. It seemed effective at first, but was wearing off so we increased from 80mg to 100mg a little over a month ago. A few weeks ago, within minutes of swallowing the pill, my heart began to hurt very, very badly (my throat, too) that basically incapacitated me from doing anything and left me trying to vomit it out. This chest pain lasted for about 1.5 hours.
Avatar f tn t been on medicine for it since college. Starts out with my former medicine, strattera, but when I would take it I felt my heart was out of control and my blood pressure went up. Now on wellbutrin for about a week but I feel foggy and it is causing worse ibs. Not sure if that side effect will go away but giving it a try. My question is, if anyone can answer, why was I able to take strattera as a child with 0 side effects and then high heart rate etc now.
Avatar m tn I was recently diagnosed with adult add. My doc put me on adderal. I responded pretty bad to it. It made me feel paranoid.... It felt so scary to feel paranoia like that. .only took it 5 days now I am discontinue it. My doc mentioned trying concerta or strattera. Anybody have experience like this or with these meds?
Avatar n tn When I was 5 mos pregnant, I was diagnosed with chronic hypertension and put on bedrest..I started taking aldomet for my blood pressure....as the mos went by, aldomet increased..I was taking 2000 mgs before I had my son.... My son's oxygen level dropped 3 times before I finally had a c-section due to fetal distress..I've wondered if aldomet could cause my son to have ADD......my son is 13 now..when he was in 3rd grade, his teacher told me she thought he had symptoms of ADD..
Avatar n tn t seem to work for me, they make me extremely irritable and give me chest pains. Tried strattera but it made me extremely emotional, to the point of sobbing for no reason. My doctor put me on Buspar, 5 mg 2x a day to help with my ADHD...but I have not read any solid literature on Buspar and its effects on ADHD symptoms. Is this a good drug to go on for ADHD? Has anyone else been on this drug for ADHD?
Avatar m tn strattera, Aderall XR, and Vyvanse, but none of them seem to work. I've asked other people who have taken Adderall what happens to them and they say things like "you can focus on anything so well." When I take it nothing happens. I don't feel any different, it just makes me feel a little less drowsy. I'm supposed to take 50MG every morning, but sometimes I would take 100MG or 150MG just to see if it would work and still nothing happens!!
Avatar m tn My daughter says that her chest hurts at times when she is real active. Is this a side effect of strattera? She has ADHD and never wants to clean her room. She will say it's clean but it's not and she is off to play, we will ask her did you clean you room and she says "I think so" but it is not.
Avatar f tn My 8 year old grandson has been on strattera and prozac for a year now. About a month ago he starting acting out in very strange ways. He pooped on the floor in the school bathroom and blamed it on someone else, then urinated in the school bathroom and swears in wasn't him. He went into his grandfathers barn and threw plastic bins of collectibles all over and broke things, then took mail out of neighbors mailboxes and threw it in the water in the ditch.
Avatar f tn Is there anybody out there who suffers from Hypotyroidsm and ADD. Would like to know what medication your Doctor has you on for ADD and does it do it's job? Thank you all!
889551 tn?1416184483 Hi! I was diagnosed with ADD recently and I'm waiting to get back in to see my psychiatrist. My last office visit we spoke about the possible medications I could choose from if I completed ADD testing with another Psych. He mentioned Strattera (but he said he didn't feel that it worked), Adderall, and Ritalin. I'm currently on abilify and wellbutrin for depression and these meds, along with adderall and ritalin lower the seizure threshold.
