strattera

Avatar f tn Strattera is a non stimulant med used for ADHD. Whether or not it would be effective for you, I don't know. This site lists almost all possible treatment options. Although for some reason, I couldn't find Strattera listed, so you need to google that. The site is http://www.healing-arts.org/children/ADHD/medications.htm And the following site also lists (with info) non stimulant meds (they do mention strattera). http://www.baltimorepsych.com/NonStimulants.
Avatar f tn He had a reaction from the stimulants and can not take them. HAs anyone used accupuncture for controlling ADD symptoms?
Avatar n tn Started Prevacid and also Strattera for ADD. We were able to wean off of the Prevacid and just stick to Strattera, as our peds thinks the Strattera helps him with the anxiety related to the GERD, and therefore he had no complaints of symptoms of GERD. In March we went off of the Strattera, and within 4 weeks the symptoms of GERD re-appeared ( Not eating, coughing, feeling like something is caught in his throat.) We went back on Strattera and Prevacid.
Avatar m tn ask your Dr. about Strattera. It is prescribed for Attention Deficit disorder, but is not a stimulant. It is non-addictive and not a controlled substance. It also has some of the same properties as SSNRI's. Since it affects neurotransmitters it is a very useful drug.
Avatar n tn t seem to work for me, they make me extremely irritable and give me chest pains. Tried strattera but it made me extremely emotional, to the point of sobbing for no reason. My doctor put me on Buspar, 5 mg 2x a day to help with my ADHD...but I have not read any solid literature on Buspar and its effects on ADHD symptoms. Is this a good drug to go on for ADHD? Has anyone else been on this drug for ADHD?
Avatar f tn Strattera is not a psychostimulant. Ritalin, Metadate Anderall are. Strattera is anothr type of medicine for ADD that doctors usually use when the stimulants do not work. Strattera rate of working is not as high as stimulants.
Avatar f tn i went to my gp who referred me to a neurologist for my forgetfulness and seemed to completely disregard treatment for add. then about 2 weeks ago i went to a psychiatrist hoping for more understanding of my situation. she did diagnose me as having add but wanted to try strattera until i was off suboxone completely which i suppose i understand. she also said that maybe i should consider treatment for my anxiety even though i told her my anxiety most definitely stems from my add symptoms.
Avatar f tn We had our daughter on Strattera 40mg a non- stimulent for ADD, as she has ADD, we have taken her off the medication, she was on it for 12months+, had tried Concerta before this, however our daughter couldn't sleep at night while on Concerta, we don't feel the benefits have been great on Strattera. I live in Australia and Homeopathy isn't supported by mainstream Doctors. Thanks again for your time.
Avatar m tn Yesterday, I noticed that you suggested Strattera to another mom for tics. Our doctor told us also to change to Strattera.
990354 tn?1307132886 hey ali! congrats on quiting opiates back in April!! How has it been? The reason i ask is cause i am going on a month and a week sober from opiates! since november 17th!! I am a pretty knowledgeable when it comes to 2 things. Meds and History. I have had ADD my whole life. I took ritilan in 4th grade only. My mom took me off of it before i started 5th grade. I would probably be a doctor if she hadn't. lol.
Avatar m tn I've been prescribed adderall for the past 4 years, I currently take 75mg per day. A couple months ago my Dr. started me on strattera in conjunction with my adderall. I have not noticed any improvement in my ability to concentrate or remain organized since starting the strattera, however my anxiety is gone and I am finally happy. A couple weeks ago my Dr. left and I was given a "temp" to take her place.
Avatar f tn I think it might be dangerous to come up with a loose answer here. Many ADD meds are stimulants and as such have an effect on the heart. The other thing is that there are many different kinds of heart surgery done for completely different reasons (malfunctioning heartvalve, inflammation, e.g. endocarditis, arterial blockages, mending a hole in the heart muscle etc.).
Avatar f tn According to the web, Strattera carries with it a "black box warning" - the most serious warning a prescription med can carry and still be on the market - that strattera has been linked to suicidal thoughts in children. I agree with Margy - I would call that doing terribly on strattera. I'm not quite sure what behaviors strattera has helped with, but a child with new suicide thoughts are about the worst thing I can think of.
Avatar n tn I've been on strattera for two weeks and the only strong side effect I seem to have is that I get really tired or fatigued around 2:00pm. Will this side effect subside over time? Is there anyway to lessen it? I've tried other ADD medications however because they are stimulants I tend to get really agitated or even a little paranoid when I'm on them so I am hoping that Strattera works out ok. Are there any other non-stimulant ADD medications?
Avatar m tn The pediatrician started her off with 18mg Strattera. The results were immediate and amazing. For the first time ever she would sit and do her homework (alone) without getting constantly distracted. A math paper that would previously have taken an hour or two to get through suddenly was done in minutes. She also stopped getting into trouble with her teachers, and was SO cooperative at home. No arguments, frustration, or tantrums for weeks!!!
Avatar m tn i currently take strattera , which has mild effects at best. however i am thinking about getting ritalin prescribed . i have a very good job where i am routinely drug tested via Urine and Hair. will ritalin casue a fasle positive drug test? half the internet sites say no the other half say yes.
Avatar n tn Im a 34 year old female just diagnosed with ADD. my dr out me on strattera because of an existing heart problem. I started it 5 days ago. the 1st day i took it at 8am. by 12 i couldnt keep my head off my desk. and i killed my scalp with my letter opener. i felt like i had bugs all in my head. the next day i took it at 1pm. same thing. im taking it later at night so i can hopefully sleep through all of the "bugs". has anyone else had itching as a side effect?
1238678 tn?1321857976 If you do lupron be sure to get add back therapy. My doctor says it is the equivalent of torture for a doctor to prescribe lupron without add back. Mine also took blood work every time I got my next injections. I one every four weeks. My doctor refuses to do the three month. Which is fine with me. If your doctor is not a reproductive endocrinologist I recommend you get a hold of the endometiosis association to find a good one in your area. http://www.endometriosisassn.
1287128 tn?1331134538 ( even though its not a stimulant ive read mixed reviews. I dont quite understand how adhd meds work. Im wondering if anyone has a suggestion or simular experience with the problems ive had and what works. She said if straterra didnt work she wanted me to try adderall. i dont want a racing heart... i dont understand making me jittery will allow me to focus better?!
Avatar f tn Is Strattera a better stimulant drug for ADD than the others as far as not making schizophrenia symptoms worse? I am considering trying Strattera and have heard that it is the only non-narcotic available for ADD. I also have breathing problems and faintness at times which is a concern with ADD drugs and schizophrenia drugs as well... If anyone has tried this drug for ADD and has Schizophrenia and has had no problems with it I'd like to know about YOUR experience with it before I try it...
Avatar f tn my 14 year old daughter was diagnosed with ADD. doctor put her on 25mg. strattera for a month and then up to 40mg. In 4 months she has lost 28lbs. she is down to 90 lbs. and is 5'6". She has excelled at school but now we are scared about her weight. doctor dropped her back down to 25mg. She has trouble falling asleep and staying asleep and has alot of anxiety. Therapist just labeled her anorexic. Is there anyway to get her appetite back and still take meds?
Avatar f tn I want to try stimulants because I understand they usually make the biggest help for people with ADD (and Strattera might interfere with the 20 mg daily of Prozac I already take), BUT I am concerned that Stimulants may exacerbate my mvp symptoms which flare from time to time (rapid/fluttery heartbeat with accompanying anxiety/panic attack type symptoms). I was given Xanax to help with the panic attacks/rapid heartbeat a long time ago before I was actually diagnsoed with MVP by echocardiogram.
Avatar f tn A combined analysis of 12 studies of Strattera showed that in children and teens this risk was 0.4% for those taking Strattera compared to none for those taking a sugar pill. A similar analysis in adults treated with Strattera did not reveal an increased risk of suicidal thoughts. Call your doctor right away if your child has thoughts of suicide or sudden changes in mood or behavior, especially at the beginning of treatment or after a change in dose.
Avatar f tn I have tried a holistic approach in my diet, life habits and petition God in prayer as well as different medications from time to time. I am very healthy except for this disorder, but was seeing a doctor for medication, Strattera when I went on medicaid. Does medicaid cover Stratterra, Vyvanse or Concerta and other ADHD or ADD medications?
Avatar m tn My son has ADD, not hyperactive, and was prescribed Adderall after Strattera quit working. The label says it can cause dependency after just as few weeks. How can this be a good drug if he needs to be on it long term? The dose is only 10mg and he is 16 but his dad has an addictive personality (recovering alcoholic) and it scares me. I have only gathered up my courage to give him 1 dose. I know about drug holidays and that is fine but if he doesn't abuse it, can he still get addicted? Thanks.
Avatar f tn t been on medicine for it since college. Starts out with my former medicine, strattera, but when I would take it I felt my heart was out of control and my blood pressure went up. Now on wellbutrin for about a week but I feel foggy and it is causing worse ibs. Not sure if that side effect will go away but giving it a try. My question is, if anyone can answer, why was I able to take strattera as a child with 0 side effects and then high heart rate etc now.
Avatar m tn You may end up paying a little more for Strattera. It's not available in generic.
