Avatar f tn I've had my troubles . . . substituting wrong words . . . starting a word with the wrong letter . . . poor word recall . . . getting stuck mid-sentence . . . but recently I have experienced a "slight" lisp that has showed up twice in the past 30 days, and I think it only lasted maybe an hour or so. The first time was right after I had gotten out of the swimming pool and sat in a chair drying off in the sun - and heat!
Avatar f tn I had a temporary crown, and it ended up falling out. I was without a crown for two days. I immediately had a lisp. I got the new permanent crown put in this morning. Well, I still have a lisp. I complained, and the dental assistant said I would "get used to it". I asked the lisp, or the crown? She laughed, and didn't answer. So, will I have a permanent lisp? Or will this go away? I want know if I should call them, and find a way to fix it. Thank you!
Avatar f tn His speech became such an issue at one point, that he began seeing a speech therapist who was baffled as to why my son just developed issues ( a lisp, esp. with 'sh' words) at the age of 13... His pediatrician (who prescribes his meds) seems to think that it isn't the Concerta, yet I disagree and am starting to think that my son is having an allergic reaction to the drug... Any thoughts on this?
Avatar n tn In July, I got a filling on the back of my top tooth - the tooth directly next to my right front tooth. There used to be a 'ridge' on the back of this tooth that I would feel with my tongue all of the time (there is an identical ridge on the opposite left tooth as well), and. when the dentist filled the small cavity on the back of the tooth, he shaved away the ridge, too. I have, since the filling, had troubles making the "S" sound - I have definitely developed a mild lisp.
Avatar m tn I'm 23 and recently started experiencing similar symptoms (the slurred speech). In a recent meeting at work it took me four tries to properly pronounce "transition" and my "s"s seem to be slurred. Do you have an update on your situation?
Avatar f tn I believe they cut it so that he WILL talk normal, right? If you notice he is 'talking funny', speech therapy is really awesome. But hopefully that won't be the case and the surgical snip will do the trick.
687534 tn?1227100104 It was around 6pm and i was laid watching TV feeling quite tired when i started to forget the names of the characters on the TV show id watched for years, then my vision on my left side became blurred,my speech was slurred and i couldnt move. I forgot my Mums name as i was trying to call her but further more i couldnt move or speak! Natually this alarmed me and my mother and we went straight to the Maternity Home. All they did was test the strength in my left hand!
803146 tn?1241372700 Hi ladies and thanks for the welcome! Brandi---I guess you're little ones are just about 1 year behind mine. 8 months is a fun age. Mine were active enough to crawl around and amuse themselves then, but weren't to dangerous yet. Once they started pulling up on things, it became a lot harder to keep them safe! kindgergal--yes, I'm told the speech delays are common with twins too. We had early intervention the first year because they were preemies.
Avatar m tn t meet, the inside of the mouth in between the two sides of the top row of teeth is far too narrow among many other rather large problems. As a result, I have a lisp and slurred speech. You following me so far? Anyway, now I want to be a lawyer. A criminal barrister under NSW law. To be a criminal barrister, you need to make speeches and mind blowing ones at that. My speech doesn't help. My teeth and jaws have to be realigned with braces.
541264 tn?1359203511 I'd rule out anything physical (like mouth formation problems, being tongue tied, teeth issues) and also have his hearing checked--hearing problems can cause speech issues, too. Then I'd see if speech therapy is a possibility. Can you have him evaluated--to see if there are any other issues with him? My son didn't speak clearly for quite a while (he spoke later than other kids his age)--then when he did start speaking, he couldn't say his "r's" and he had a lisp.
584252 tn?1218223686 Hi i took my daughter Melissa to see a speech and language therapist today and she said from the little test she did her speech is within normal parameters, but from what i have been saying she did say she wanted to test her at school to check her understanding. She did notice that Melissa went into her own world and that when i spoke to her i had to repeat myself quite a few times.

Avatar m tn Speech disorder will be recovered easily , when they are constant efforts from both patient and Therapist. Normally Breathing exercises and Speech training by therapist will be helpful.
Avatar m tn The right side of his body was larger than his left. This included his tongue and he had to have speech therapy for years and still has a lisp and has difficulty swallowing pills. He had some surgery when he was only 2 and the anethesist said intubating him was tricky because of the size of his tongue on one side. He was being followed by a pediatric orthopedic surgeon from age 4 unti last year when he was only 13yrs old. Last April was his last visit and he was 5'9.
Avatar m tn This by the way, had to do with my doctor who thought that seeing as I have asthma I should learn how to breathe so I could talk. Unfortunately for the speech therapist, she was caught unawares and might possibly need some kind of therapy herself after having a couple of stints with me.
Avatar n tn He didnt babble much as a baby, and not very much as a toddler, so at 2 years old I took him to a speech therapist...........now he is 4 and a half and the speech therapist just noticed that at the back of his throat his uvula is doubled, and she felt the back the top of the roof of his mouth and told me he has Submoucus Cleft Palate. We since have seen a nose ear and throat specialist and he says that my son doesnt need surgery, and should out grow his nasily sound by puberty.
Avatar n tn She was assessed by early intervention (psychologist, speech therapist, and occupational therapist) and her pediatrician for autism and no one had any concerns. The speech therapist said she should be evaluated by a neuropsychologist. This is a very expensive assessment. Given the fact that she has been evaluated a couple of times do you think this is necessary? I am so frustrated, I have been trying to get her speech help for so long and have jumped through so many hoops.
738090 tn?1250622476 I have been sent to a speech therapist after I started having hoarseness. I have emphysema, acid reflux and the signs of essential tremor. The internist, pulmonologist, gastroentrologist and Ent all could not determine the cause. The speech therapist says is is because the muscle around the vocal cord has been retrained by using the PLB method and I have to relearn to work the breathing and speech in concert.

Avatar f tn My son has sensory integration disorder and the two things that were noticed first were his speech and tripping. He was three. He was evaluated by an occupational therapist and has been doing OT since being diagnosed with sensory. He is now 6 and doing really well. Just thought I'd throw sensory into the mix for you to check out and see what you think.
Avatar f tn Yes, repeated infections can have an impact on hearing. Your son's development of speech/language is definitiely delayed, and this warants evaluation by a Speech/Language therapist. But an audiological evaluation is crucial, because it is possible that the delay in speech is secondary to hearing loss.
Avatar f tn Maybe you need to see a speech therapist for an eval and go from there.
