500419 tn?1220124743 So you should find out from head start how much time does he really get. My child is 11 and is still in speech and works online, but is so much better. But If I were you I wouldn't put him in school yet. I would take him for speech on his own, talk to him a lot and read to him everyday and go to the park.
Avatar n tn I live in Delhi, India and My pediatrician suggested me to consult speech therapist and I visited speech therapist also. He says she will talk in few months after attending few sessions, however, i dont see any change in my daughter after attending 5 sessions also. She imitates all the things but dont speak.......pls guide..
Avatar f tn All of last week, she was being assessed and doing various evaluations by the physiotherapist, occupational therapist, the speech therapist and a neuropsychology. This week, there are a few more assessments to do and then they will begin with the therapy required. She has not shown any improvements in her movement. We are past 4 weeks and from what I have been reading online, this means that no neurological recovery has taken place. Does that mean that it won't happen?
Avatar n tn Do you live in the U.S.? If so, ask your pediatrician about your state's birth to 3 program. When my daughter was 24 months old, her spoken vocabulary was 0 words. She would not point, would not respond to her name, did not respond to any commands or anything including things like "let's go get ice cream". She was diagnosed with PDD, but only recently, and she's almost 3 years old.
Avatar f tn Speech therapist and OT who are working with my son advised us against ABA in its pure form; they beleive that he does have the skills necessary for learning (imitation, play skills, etc), he has problems with compliance and seeks negative attention a lot. They do not view ABA approaches as suitable for him.....
Avatar f tn You should find a developmental pediatrician who specializes in ASD for an assessment (a multidisciplanary evaluation including a pediatrician, a child neurologist, a child psychologist, and a speech therapist is ideal). Depending on where you live, you can look into your local school district for assessment and other services through early childhood programs.
584252 tn?1218223686 Hi i took my daughter Melissa to see a speech and language therapist today and she said from the little test she did her speech is within normal parameters, but from what i have been saying she did say she wanted to test her at school to check her understanding. She did notice that Melissa went into her own world and that when i spoke to her i had to repeat myself quite a few times.
Avatar m tn How to train ( or educate) a mildly mentally retarded child having markedly delayed speech . He is 4 yr old but V.M S is that of a 2 yr & 6 months' child. Can speak only two simple words together . He does not mix with other children in preschool( where he goes for last one month) may be because unable to speak much { he siarted speaking at age of 3 yrs} ;Does he need a special tutor ? Or parents should be encoureged to get involved in interacting and stimulating his skills and speech.
Avatar f tn That being said, how wonderful that she will have 4 languages. I would check in with an expert - perhaps a pediatrician or speech therapist? Others will speak up I'm sure with more information, sorry all I can offer is that I know it is normal for a child to be behind in these types of situations. All the best to you!
Avatar f tn no tantrums but some sleeping issue. she had her hearing test, and it came her hearing is okey. she had her speech therapist its been 3 months already but seems not improving. and last week she started her OT from baby cant wait. does anybody has any idea what kind of therapy does she need aside from this 2 therapies? im worried all the time and sometimes feeling hopeless. i cant sleep good at night thinking what im gonna do, keep doing some research about her problem.
Avatar m tn Some schools have grants to work with professionals such as a speech therapist or occupational therapist. If you live in the US, there is also the early intervention programs provided for kids by law to look into. Your son is 3 and older, so he'd fall into the public school system's early interveniton program. It is an intervention preschool and they work with kids on various issues. I can't say enough about addressing the concerns parents have early.
Avatar f tn My son is 5 years he is not very social he gets really goofy around other kids, he can't really talk he says some words but I'm about the only one that can understand him. The only medical condition he has is a heart murmur, they told us just to keep an eye on him, he loves and I mean loves to play with strings and fuzz from stuff animals, he is usually calm though when he gets a temper, it's really bad.
Avatar f tn If you like law, you could look into paralegal. They make great money. You could take cooking classes and be a chef. The skies the limit. I am not sure what all can be taken online but think about what you want to do that provides income and piece it together.
Avatar n tn He also has a speech problem. He was evaluated at school and they told us he had a learning disability. Sometimes I get very frustated because I don't know what else to do to help him. He is receiving help at school but I don't see any progress in him. Please help.
620048 tn?1358018235 00. I am not sure what she is going to do but I am sure I need it..What do speech therapists do anyway? With all of that, I still have a terrible headache but still happy...
Avatar f tn I think a physical therapist could help and I would imagine you will need a speech pathologist as well. Might as well get on that list. In the US, we have programs that help families and their children when developmental issues are present. It is free and involves a coordinator from an agency that helps to set up all of the evaluations and treatments necessary. It runs birth to age 3. Is there anything like that in your country? Best of luck to you.
Avatar f tn First let me apologize in advance for how long this is & how jumbled around m thoughts are... I have an adorable, intelligent son who just turned 4 yesterday. He has been my pride & joy from the moment he entered my life & I adore the hell outta him. The problem is that lately I know in my heart that I have been failing as a parent. I lost the strong bond that I once had with my son & have been trying to get it back. I don't know what happened to be honest.
168006 tn?1241012961 He is extremely social, communicative, and loving. His speech skills are far behind what they should be. He sees a speech therapist as well as an occupational therapist twice a week and that has really helped him. He does not take any meds (even if they tried I would not let him take them). My suggestion would be to get your son examined by a child psychologist- try and get a diagnosis. The main issue you may have is that it seems that your son once had skills and has now regressed.
Avatar f tn I have ordered from an online pharmacy. Used pharmacychecker.com. Order came in about 30 days, but the price was excellent and the product was legitimate.
Avatar n tn Speech and Language Therapist is the first stage. And I would also ask outright about your suspicions about autism. Bringing the word out into the open means that professionals will refer the child for assessments. Without your asking you could wait years for another professional (usually in nursery or school), to bring up the idea of having your child evaluated. You really need things to be started now because there is a better prognosis and improvement the younger the child.
460185 tn?1326077772 I heard that President Obama's acceptance speech was really good. Does anyone know if it is being shown on the internet or YouTube; unfortunately, I didn't hear the speech but would like to.
Avatar m tn Speech disorder will be recovered easily , when they are constant efforts from both patient and Therapist. Normally Breathing exercises and Speech training by therapist will be helpful.
Avatar f tn Can anybody help me w/ this? I'm looking to go see an addictionologist, or specialist or addiction therapist to help me be done with this crap once and for all. But I'm nervous. I want to be open and honest about everything but I'm scared that they will report me to family/social services and they'll try to take my children from me. Can they do that? I know what i tell them is confidential but can they still report me? This is the only thing holding me back.
Avatar f tn It is all exercises for the mouth. But a speech therapist can help you the best with this. My son had trouble chewing and speech therapists and occupational therapists can help with that as well. So, I can't say for sure what is going on with your son. You've seen a specialist that says possible autism. I'm just a mom on the internet so I don't want to discount that. I'd take any steps that they've recommended.
Avatar n tn Good for you getting him into SP, OT, and ABA so quickly! Yes, many autistic children do improve with these types of therapy and some recover quicker than others. Yes, there are some autistic children who may need assistance their entire lives.
Avatar m tn This by the way, had to do with my doctor who thought that seeing as I have asthma I should learn how to breathe so I could talk. Unfortunately for the speech therapist, she was caught unawares and might possibly need some kind of therapy herself after having a couple of stints with me.
Avatar n tn He didnt babble much as a baby, and not very much as a toddler, so at 2 years old I took him to a speech therapist...........now he is 4 and a half and the speech therapist just noticed that at the back of his throat his uvula is doubled, and she felt the back the top of the roof of his mouth and told me he has Submoucus Cleft Palate. We since have seen a nose ear and throat specialist and he says that my son doesnt need surgery, and should out grow his nasily sound by puberty.
Avatar n tn She was assessed by early intervention (psychologist, speech therapist, and occupational therapist) and her pediatrician for autism and no one had any concerns. The speech therapist said she should be evaluated by a neuropsychologist. This is a very expensive assessment. Given the fact that she has been evaluated a couple of times do you think this is necessary? I am so frustrated, I have been trying to get her speech help for so long and have jumped through so many hoops.
