Common Questions and Answers about Solumedrol dosing copd

solumedrol

Avatar f tn I just read some stuff Quix posted in 2008 about having solumedrol at home...scary. Today I went to the neuro and he said I am getting worse. I knew I had 2 new lesions, but some other things have been happening. He gave me an order to have home health come and do it, but unless they administer it and stay with me each of the 3 days, I think I'd rather be more comfortable at the hospital as out patient as I usually do. Tomorrow I also get to go get a foot brace for drop foot..how fun.
Avatar f tn Spiriva is an anticholenergic used to treat various forms of COPD, but rarely asthma. The primary function of these medications is to reduce mucous in the respiratory system. They do have a mild broncho-dilating affect. I have not used Spiriva so I am unsure of its dosage, but I have taken ipratropium which is in the same class. As a neb solution it lasts 6 hours and as an MDI it last 4 hours. Check your prescription for dosing on this medication.
1516809 tn?1345082764 Is a Hacking Cough with sounds of congestion in the upper chest typical of COPD? My mother for the last month would expel white colored globs of mucus periodically after a few minutes of coughing. She has no fever nor loss of appetite. Her geriatrician tried Azithromycin 500mg tabs for 5 days which seemed to help but then the coughing and globs returned. The doctor then doubled her Pulmicort doseage in her Nebulizer for two weeks to see if that helped plus using Robitussin as needed.
1571737 tn?1295772392 hi my name is stephen, i am 27 years old. i was diagnosed with copd when i was 25(no its not alpha 1). i was incarcerated from age 14 to 20 so i didnt smoke but from age 20 to now i smoke heavily, a pack of cigareetes aday and 25 blunts(medical marijuanan rolled in a tabacco leaf cigar), well if i smoked that much and got copd in just 5 years would that mean that if i continue to smoke that in 5 years i will have as much or equal damage as i got already?
Avatar f tn Searching, I found you and am excited that there is a group that may actually be able to answer some of my questions. The first thing he wants to do is put me on solumedrol for 5 days, I am not currently in a flair. Any reason I should put myself through that if I am not currently having symptoms?
Avatar f tn I know steroids can make you susceptible to infections, but has anyone developed a UTI on solumedrol? I had the unmistakable first inklings of one a bit ago. I rushed out for cranberry juice and a blueberry smoothie (blueberries are supposed to have the same effect as cranberries, and it's a good excuse for a fruit smoothie!!) and I'm hoping I can keep it at bay this way, but I guess I'll know in a few hours. These things tend to come on fast for me.
1172359 tn?1310667693 I am scheduled Monday to do an IV for three days of Solumedrol. Has anyone else done that and if so, what is your opinion. I am alittle nervous about it.
Avatar m tn That tells me that you either have made an error in your dosing or you are really not a Diabetic. No one takes 500units of Insulin in one dose. I am a considered a brittle Diabetic and I only use about 300 units every 3-4 days. Maybe that's why you are out of breath, lol. You would actually die if you took that much Insulin at once.
97654 tn?1214348650 ve had a horrible experience with Solumedrol as well.....Back in March I had extreme leg and groin numbness and went on IV Solumedrol for 3 days....I had a nasty reaction to it, but it DID take away the numbness and vision problems almost immediately....Well, within 48 hours anyway..... In May the left side of my head and face went numb and because I was visiting the MS Clinic at that time, I declined the Solumedrol treatment.....That numbness didn't go away for 20 days.....
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with COPD at the beginning of this year. My fev1 was 56% pre and went up 24% post. My pulmo put me on Advair 250/50 twice daily. In the beginning it made me feel better but now I have constant side affects. I have dealt with thrush I don't know how many times and I always wash my mouth out and make sure that i drink something afterwards to clear the residue from my throat. I have charlie horses all the time or leg cramps in my feet and my legs.
Avatar m tn I was found to have a few more severe, negative side effects throughout the dosing such as steroid induced psychosis and trouble breathing. Nothing life threatening, but due to these I was labeled "allergic" to the IVSM. It's wonderful to hear her symptoms cleared up so quickly... I'm two weeks post and mine seemed to have gotten worse (bad before it gets better, right!!?
Avatar n tn I am a 70 female with low alpha-1 antitripsen causing mild COPD. After hospitalization on IV Solumedrol, I have had persistent atrial fibrillation and some PVCs and PACs. My blood pressure seems to be under control. The A-Fib goes on for hours and is often a quivering, jiggly sensation and/or accompanied by palpitations...with normal pulse rate due to the Cardizem.
97654 tn?1214348650 At one point this was happening about 15 times per day. I took a round of Solumedrol (3 days) and began taking 300 mg of Lyrica per day. It now happens 4 or 5 times per week. My doctor prescribed another round of Solumedrol which is scheduled for next week (30 days from the first one). I am trying to decide whether I want to do the 2nd round of Solumedrol. It made me feel horrible and was a miserable 4 or 5 days.
Avatar f tn Call your local pharmacist. We at MedHelp are not allowed to give out dosing instructions. Your pharmacist will be able to tell you exactly how to dose the medications. If your regular pharmacy is closed on Sunday, call any pharmacist availabe at your local grocery store or drug store such as Walgreens, CVS, or RiteAid.
Avatar f tn I had a 4 day Solumedrol drip and then step down pack in February and it made me worse. All my muscles tightened up and I have more pain than I did before. Call it a major fibromyalgia attack. Even now in May, I am still as stiff and woozy as i was after the glucocorticoid therapy. Sigh. Did nothing for me that I can tell. I did sweat a lot during the treatment so maybe i lost a few toxins?
Avatar f tn t help, so I had the 3 day mega dose IV solumedrol. I did not do the tapering off pills, because I was having a reaction to the medicine. Since the end of February my ankles are swollen everyday, all day. I asked my neurologist, and she said it is a side effect of the solumedrol. Any one else experience this.....swollen ankles for so long? When will they return to normal? Help please. Thank you.
Avatar f tn I am currently being treated with 1 gm Solumedrol once/month. I had a three day course last spring and felt AWFUL afterwards. I did eventually feel a bit better overall, so maybe it was worth it. Even the one day dose makes me feel pretty lousy. My sx actually seem to get worse for a few days afterward! I'm not dx, but symptomatically fit the diagnostic criteria (we'll see what the 3T MRI has to say...
Avatar m tn -) It sounded like this is a pretty typical process in the office for anyone with issues that get aggravated by the seasonal bugs - probably asthma or COPD type stuff, or maybe lupus. I guess that would be one benefit to not having a formal dx. There is no standard treatment protocol for every little thing that happens. Thanks, Lulu. It did sort of answer my question as far as the timing goes. All we can do is try it.
Avatar f tn I am 38 years old and have battle allergies my life but began get huge hives a few years ago. After many allergy tests and rounds of prednizone, it was my allergy doctor who realized that I probable had high Ige levels....and blood work proved him right. I began my first series of Xolair with very high hopes. It worked great...but I rebound higher after each series. Normal levels are under 150...I started off with just slightly higher at 183. This was a couple years ago.
Avatar f tn Medrol (methyprednisolone) is identical to Solumedrol, but is the oral form. When we get IV infusions we get 1000mg of it. Each pill in the dose pack is 4 mg. You take 6 tabs the first day, and then 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 the following days. (24mg, 20mg, 16mg, 12mg, 8mg, 4mg). Long ago they established that the lower dose dose not afford the relief in MS, likely because it is not enough to establish any meaningful levels within the brain and spinal cord.
1580703 tn?1651904887 Dear Doctor I've had low O2 in my sleep of 75 for a while- my sleep is harmful and dangerous. My Fev1 is stuck at 72% even on dulera, singulair, combivent, xopenex, spiriva. I wheeze when I exhale- I exhale for less than a second and then the breath stops and I wheeze. Even prednisone/medrol/solumedrol doesn't really help this obstruction/wheezing. My peak flow was about 400 last month but now past 600. I have these headaches and I can't think when I run into smoke/pollution.
195469 tn?1388322888 These are the same problems I have with Solumedrol. Diabetics have a hard time with Solumedrol and it seems that insulin or diabetic pills, cannot work hard enough to get high blood sugar levels down. Here where we live in Virginia, they will not do a treatment, if your blood sugar level is about 200. This is a good drug, but very hard on someone that is prone to high blood pressure and high blood sugar.
Avatar f tn I started rebif and solumedrol at the same time in July, but call your doctor.. Are call the MS lifelines??
1740498 tn?1328962585 I had my first course of solumedrol Friday-Tuesday. Last night (Thursday night) I began needing to urinate every 30-60 minutes. Not like tons and tons. But also not my bladder fooling me. And it continues today! I can't get a hold of my @$&#%& neurologist. So of course my question is whether this happens with steroids. Anybody?
