He said his program does not provide him with Kenalog and so he gave me a shot of Decadron 4 mg every three months. It has been a week since my shot and my allergies are starting to return. What is the difference between the two, and which one is better? Should I seek another doctor or can I go to a clinic and get my shots there since I have my past medical records with me?
I was hospitalized for 9 days. The only thing that helped the headaches a little was Decadron. The headaches continued for 7 months. In Jan of 2008 my lupus flared and I was gived IV"d solumedrol 6 grams. My headache went 100% away. I also started cytoxan chemotherapy. I take Calan 240 mgs for migraine prevention and Amerge for a migraine. This Saturday the headache came back. It hurts, throbs, I can't do anything and am very nauseated.
I was admitted into the hospital for infusion, 2 days of 325 mg solumedrol and 3 days of 1000 mg solumedrol. I was then discharged on another 4 week oral schedule of prednisone of which I'm on week one, 60 mg/day.
This second time, the infusion saved my right ear. Or seems to have, so far. It has done nothing for the headache though. After my first Abomb (1000 mg dose), my headache initially did ease up, but not go away. However, it hasn't eased up at all since that one time.
We did skin testing to Solu-Medrol, Solu-Cortef and Decadron. Only the Decadron did not react. So...it is not impossible. I now have my exacerbations treated with Decadron.
I wonder if we see this because we with MS tend to get repeated exposure to SM/Decadron. Something I'm planning on discussing with the allergist sometime.
I see a lot of folks talking about taking their decadron as if it is optional, some even discontinuing. I want to make clear that the primary purpose of taking decadron is not to increase your apetite. Decadron is actualy an extremely powerful chemotherapeutic that can by itself repress cancer, without any other chemotherapy. It was used for eons as the primary treatment for leukemia. Unfortunately, the cancer cells adapt over time.
I have been given decadron shots twice a year the 4 and 8 doses, fast acting and long term acting, for 17 years for extreme allergies and asthma. I have been catching every bug that comes around lately like my immune is down, I also have been staying dehydrated, I've also had alot of headaches, am thirsty all the time, I also have been having ribs that have been popping out of place and having to be popped back in by a professional.
i was exposed to hiv in december and in january i was feeling sick so 4 weeks after hiv exposure my doc gave me a 4mg IM shot of decadron and one week later, 5 weeks, after exposure he gave me another 4mg shot of decadron? i was wondering would those two doses of decadron suppress my immune system and suppress hiv antibody production. i had a three month test that was negative but i was wondering would the decadron cause a false negative result. are my results accurate.
Doctor I have been on decadron for the past three years except of 6 months out of the three years. I have gained so much weight (35 pounds) and I think that it is upsetting my stomach and causing stomach pain. Is there something else that I can take besides a steriod or do I have to take them everytime I have a treatment. I am currently on Gemzar and I am on two a week treatment and one week off .
Any one with experiences with Decadron? I was given heavy doses of prednisone with chemo 21 years ago, and am afraid that the decadron will be just as bad. Any views?

00pm on Saturday. On Sunday, he was fine until he took a nap at about 2:30 and when he woke up, his skin was very red and it progressively got worse throughout the evening. I wanted to take him to the ER but he still feels so bad he dont want to go. Should I be worried? I work in the medical field and have seen many reactions, but never to Decadron and couldnt find any reaction info that seemed like what he is having?
I have been on decadron for a week and since then during the time i was on it, around my neck and chest are sweating at night excessively and I feel like I'm out of breath and my blood pressure has been high> I took my last dose yesterday. Could this medicine be causing any of this?
here is my concern, i got two 4mg decadron shots one three weeks after exposure and antother 4 weeks after exposure. i also was experiecing a sore throat and swollen lymph nodes and a low grade fever but it could have been more but the decadron was given to me so it can mask infection symptoms such as fever and rash. my question is would the two 4mg decadron shots exactly a week apart (total of 8mg) inhibit hiv antibody prodcution thus resulting in my subsequent testing to be false negative.

The change in medication should be done gradually allowing the body to adjust. Decadron is closer in structure to natural steroids in the body. Both Kenalog and Decadron have their advantages and side effects. It is the question of what suits you better. Maybe you can check with another doctor of your area about the availability of Kenalog.

This is a follow up to my first chemo. I think I've finally turned the corner and am starting to feel better. Thank you for all your advice, I'm going to let the doctor and nurse know I didn't do so well with the kytril and decadron and get them to try something else or change it up a bit. You're right, I don't want to play catch up with the nausea but stay in control of it.
well, I was expecting this one to be effortless but failed to meet my expectations. The nurse almost missed the loomingly large IV site and then pushed the Decadron too fast, giving me weird symptoms, and then I got a headache from the Tysabri (perhaps because the Decadron was pushed too fast?) and was over 12 hrs shaking that one, but eventually shook it with a pharmaceutical cocktail.
four weeks after being stuck with a bloody needle my doctor put me on Z-pack (azithromycin) antibiotics and gave me two decadron shots. Will being on a antibiotic delay the production of HIV antibodies. will two 4gm shots of decadron delay the production of HIV antibodies. also at nine weeks i have another rapid test conducted and that too was negative. how reliable and accurate are these results. do you think my twelve week test will change. how many people will convert at nine weeks.
NS started Mike on Decadron today (another round of steroids). It's another taper down pack and the last one will be next Tuesday morning. He sees the doctor Friday at 10am and if he is looking like he's spiraling again coming off of them then they will admit him to determine why his brain keeps wanting to swell. Ughh!

Why does it take the synthetic hormone in the stim test to make her adrenals respond and make cortisol? Finally, they gave her 4mg. of Decadron and the next day 2mg. She started feeling better. Then 2 days later, she started going backwards again. The Dr. put her on .25 of Decadron daily. She had her 3rd dose last night. She's feeling a little better.
Why does it take giving her the synthetic hormone during the stim test for her adrenals to finally make good levels of cortisol.
sorry is is possible to get acute hiv symptoms 12 weeks after possible exposure with a possible weakened immune system.
Searching, I found you and am excited that there is a group that may actually be able to answer some of my questions. The first thing he wants to do is put me on solumedrol for 5 days, I am not currently in a flair. Any reason I should put myself through that if I am not currently having symptoms?
I know steroids can make you susceptible to infections, but has anyone developed a UTI on solumedrol? I had the unmistakable first inklings of one a bit ago. I rushed out for cranberry juice and a blueberry smoothie (blueberries are supposed to have the same effect as cranberries, and it's a good excuse for a fruit smoothie!!) and I'm hoping I can keep it at bay this way, but I guess I'll know in a few hours. These things tend to come on fast for me.
