Decadron® (dexamethasone) is characterized as a "long-acting" steroid and Kenalog® (triamcinolone acetonide) is an "intermediate-acting" steroid. Thus duration of action of Decadron® (dexamethasone) is somewhat longer than that of Kenalog® (triamcinolone acetonide).
I was hospitalized for 9 days. The only thing that helped the headaches a little was Decadron. The headaches continued for 7 months. In Jan of 2008 my lupus flared and I was gived IV"d solumedrol 6 grams. My headache went 100% away. I also started cytoxan chemotherapy. I take Calan 240 mgs for migraine prevention and Amerge for a migraine. This Saturday the headache came back. It hurts, throbs, I can't do anything and am very nauseated.
So the NL wanted to break the "cycle" of my headache so she sent me for a Decadron infussion and then started me on them orally the following day. That was 2 days ago. Today my numbness/tingling is barely noticeable at all which is crazy for me since typically it is severe. No I have not had a Cine MRI and I was only told that I do not have a syrnix in my cervical spine but do not know about lower regions as no one will order another MRI.
30 and when he woke up, his skin was very red and it progressively got worse throughout the evening. I wanted to take him to the ER but he still feels so bad he dont want to go. Should I be worried? I work in the medical field and have seen many reactions, but never to Decadron and couldnt find any reaction info that seemed like what he is having?

This is a follow up to my first chemo. I think I've finally turned the corner and am starting to feel better. Thank you for all your advice, I'm going to let the doctor and nurse know I didn't do so well with the kytril and decadron and get them to try something else or change it up a bit. You're right, I don't want to play catch up with the nausea but stay in control of it.
I see a lot of folks talking about taking their decadron as if it is optional, some even discontinuing. I want to make clear that the primary purpose of taking decadron is not to increase your apetite. Decadron is actualy an extremely powerful chemotherapeutic that can by itself repress cancer, without any other chemotherapy. It was used for eons as the primary treatment for leukemia. Unfortunately, the cancer cells adapt over time.
Decadron, definitely not a friend of mine. I always ask if they must give it to me give the least amount possible. If you are nauseau you need to ask for stronger antinauseau meds. Alert your healthcare team about the stomach pain this may not be caused by steriods.

Decadron has cetain side effects and some of them could be similar to the symptoms you mention. But it would not be possible to say anything with certainty without doing a proper clinical evaluation.
It is important for you to understand that the decadron that you are taking is alright if you are taking it under supervision of your doctor.
Consult your doctor about the symptoms ou are having and also whether you need to see an endocrinologist.
The duration of action of Decadron injection is up to 3 weeks. If your test was taken 3 months after the last injection, then the result should be accurate. The ELISA test rarely gives a false negative, and usually if done right after getting an injection of an immunosuppressant such as Decadron.
HIV antibodies develop 3-6 months after exposure, though usually within the first month.
If you're still uneasy, get another test in 3 months.
i also was experiecing a sore throat and swollen lymph nodes and a low grade fever but it could have been more but the decadron was given to me so it can mask infection symptoms such as fever and rash. my question is would the two 4mg decadron shots exactly a week apart (total of 8mg) inhibit hiv antibody prodcution thus resulting in my subsequent testing to be false negative.
MY QUESTION IS . AFTER I STOPED THE DECADRON BY 12 MG TO 8MG THEN 4 MG AND 2MG AND THEN I STOPED, IAM GETTING SIDDE EFECTS I GET PAIN AROUND MY EYES THEN I SLEEP DURING THE DAY ALOTE 4 TO 5 HOURS AND IAM VERY WEAK I FEEL TO WOMET . IS THIS ALL SIDE EFFECTS FROM DECADRON OR SOMETHING ELSE IS THIS,PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS.

The change in medication should be done gradually allowing the body to adjust. Decadron is closer in structure to natural steroids in the body. Both Kenalog and Decadron have their advantages and side effects. It is the question of what suits you better. Maybe you can check with another doctor of your area about the availability of Kenalog.

well, I was expecting this one to be effortless but failed to meet my expectations. The nurse almost missed the loomingly large IV site and then pushed the Decadron too fast, giving me weird symptoms, and then I got a headache from the Tysabri (perhaps because the Decadron was pushed too fast?) and was over 12 hrs shaking that one, but eventually shook it with a pharmaceutical cocktail.

1. Neither the azithromycin, nor the decadron would delay production of HIV antibodies.
2. At nine weeks, an HIV antibody test would be expected to detect 99% of persons who had acquired HIV 9 weeks earlier.
3. The 12 week test will add very little. As you can see from the answer above, less than 1% of persons who have gotten HIV will develop positive tests between 9 and 12 weeks.
NS started Mike on Decadron today (another round of steroids). It's another taper down pack and the last one will be next Tuesday morning. He sees the doctor Friday at 10am and if he is looking like he's spiraling again coming off of them then they will admit him to determine why his brain keeps wanting to swell. Ughh!

Hi, when her ACTH was checked back on Sept. 26th, it was 8. My husband and I met wit her Internist today and he thinks it's either pituitary or hypothalamus bc her Adrenals do make Cortisol when given synthetic ACTH. He wants to do further testing but not while she's in an acute state. For the past 4 days, she was on .25 of decadron. Tonight they're increasing it to .5 bc she's not getting better, she's actually going backwards since getting the IV Decadron on Fri.
sorry is is possible to get acute hiv symptoms 12 weeks after possible exposure with a possible weakened immune system.
My neuro is a general neuro and basically told me to research the Dmds available and to let him know what I would like to try. Searching, I found you and am excited that there is a group that may actually be able to answer some of my questions. The first thing he wants to do is put me on solumedrol for 5 days, I am not currently in a flair. Any reason I should put myself through that if I am not currently having symptoms?
