vytorin

Avatar m tn simvastatin. try it for 6 month and report to us if it does not work. steff thinks it does not work. i might try it myself. perhaps it is too weak. We should try ibesarten and simvastatin together.
Avatar n tn All good news! I also take Simvastatin and it is very effective at lowering LDL very quickly. It also has the fewest side effects and is very well tolerated and you are on a low dosage as well. Sounds like you're on the right track!
Avatar n tn I think they are in the same drug class, I've taken both with the similar results. As I recall, I was changed from lipitor to simvastatin because simvastatin isn't as strong a statin because of some very strong congestive heart meds that impact the liver and kidneys. Factors that can change liver functions include weight gain, alcohol consumption, exercise levels and diet, so it takes a health professional, which I'm not, to ferret out cause for blood test changes.
Avatar f tn Your doctor would not put you on it for low HDL (good cholesterol) as it does not increase HDL, it lowers LDL or bad cholesterol. Do you know what your breakdown was? In any case, statins are very safe and proving to me more safe all the time. The risk of any side effect is anywhere between 2% and 5% which classifies this as very safe. Common side effects are muscle pain and sore joints. I would take it and just keep an eye out for anything that may be a side effect.
Avatar f tn Thanks I am looking at my diet as I know I need to lose some weight but I do exercise . I had a TIA 3 weeks ago and was given alot of new meds , my blood pressure was not controlled well so my meds were changed this didn't work and they added another pill to it and it started finally to come down it was 150/97 up to 170/127 but is now the range of 128/85 to 150/99 so an improvement.
Avatar f tn Both simvastatin and pravastatin have the same side effect profile, but it does depend on the individual as to whether one would cause more issues than the other." The only negative I have read about Simvastatin in recent times is a study that showed high doses of simvastatin of 80 mg puts a patient at a greater risk for side effects including muscle damage. Most doctors have backed off of the 80 mg dosage as a result.
382218 tn?1341181487 I take Simvastatin for high cholesterol. It has greatly improved my levels. It would be great if it helped other things!
Avatar f tn Never worked for me but, it does for some so definitely worth a try.
Business woman2 I am starting the slimfast program tomorrow. My question is does it really work? I am also in a wheel chair..But i do get my legs walking 1 or 2 hours a day .
Avatar f tn Keep us posted to see how you're doing! If it works I'll try it when I'm close to my due date or over due..does it taste gross? Or does it just end up giving you a ton of gas??
1423357 tn?1511085442 30AM, shortly after getting out of bed this morning. It was 76. Upon arriving at work at 7AM, I checked it again. It was 120. I expect that if I check it again at 9AM, it will be back around 85. Is this short spike significant? This scenario is exactly what happens when I go to the lab for my fasting test. I get up, shower, dress, wait for the wife; it's about 2 hours from rising that I get tested, and it comes back high.
Avatar n tn I was on simvastatin also and my cpk was high and getting higher and they took me off immediatly. as I understand it all statins have the potential to cause cpk to rise. you may want to stop taking it. check w/ your Dr.

They read up on all of her meds called the Dr. he stopped the simvastatin and she is much better now and cont to improve. My husband is on it and has no problems. As with most drugs, they affect people different.
Avatar m tn (cirrhosis) It is critical that your doctor discovers the cause and the medication is adjusted if it is the simvastatin. Here are some other things that may cause the liver to be irritated and the GGT to be elevated.
9771234 tn?1405793808 I did it and it was right about me having a girl amd my hair dresser did it and it was right for her having a boy...
Avatar f tn I have been on Vytorin for a few years and my insurance company will not pay for it anymore. My doctor has switched me to Simvastatin (40mg) daily. My question is has anyone else made the switch and have they noticed any side-effects?
Avatar f tn Crestor is a statin (rosuvastatin calcium) only, Vytorin is a statin (Simvastatin) with Zetia (ezetimibe). Statins work by controlling the production of cholesterol in your liver while Zetia works by preventing cholesterol to be absorbed in your digestive system. Of the two, Crestor is the stronger of the two. In addition, recent trials have shown that adding Zetia does not improve the performance of Vytorin over Simvastatin alone.
Avatar n tn I will certainly monitor it. I would actually prefer to stop the statins completely. I work out in the gym 4 times a week for the past 12 years & eat a fairly sensible diet. When I originally had a blood test for cholesterol about 18 months aged 59, it was.6.9 (highlight) but not dangerous. I managed to reduce it to 6.8 by eating Benecol etc so the doctor put me on simvastatins and it went down to 4.7 within a fe weeks.
