Common Questions and Answers about Simvastatin generic manufacturer

vytorin

Avatar m tn I am wondering if anyone has taken simvastatin, the generic brand for Zocor. I just started taking this on Friday and twice since then I seem to have had some strange side effects. It has caused an upset stomach and then made me feel very jittery. It was almost as if I had the chills and then both nights had a horrible time sleeping. The only similar item I ate or drank was Diet Cranberry Soda. I am not sure if this would have had an impact. Any insight would be great.
Avatar n tn Can changing the manufacturer on your medicine cause them to lose effectiveness or how they are making you feel? Our insurance changed, and when it did I had to go to mail order meds. Since I've had to change, I have been struggling with my moods like I did before medication. (not quite as severe, but it's been a few years since my moods have taken such a severe dive) Any advice or thoughts would be so welcomed. I cannot handle feeling like this much longer.............
Avatar f tn I have been with the same manufacturer of metoprolol succinate for 2 years and had no problems and now they went out of business and the new manufacturer of the same medication isn't working for me!
Avatar f tn Go to the drug manufacturer website. Many of these companies have programs to provide meds to those with limited means at little or no charge. Ranexa is made by Gilead Sciences and Plavix by Bristol-Myers Squibb. Start there, if that doesn't work ask your doctor for other resources, they should be able to help.
Avatar f tn I hear this quite often. Next tie you speak to your doctor ask about Zocor. There is a generic called simvastatin and it is very cheap yet very effective. Also, the additional med that your doctor was talking about is most likely a fenofibrate like Tricor which is commonly added to a statin med. I am on both and they have worked very well for me with no side effects.
519736 tn?1253986826 My husband was prescribed generic lipitor about a year ago. Prior to this he was advised to use Slo Niacin. When he began the lipitor, his dr. did not tell him to stop taking the Slo Niacin. He has been taking them together daily. Last week he experienced more frequent, loose bowels, but did not feel "sick"..This went away and he started to have muscle pain in the chest and upper back and his legs..that began 3 days ago. The muscle pain is preventing him from getting any sleep.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in November of 09. I was initially put on 100mcg of generic Levothyroxine (can't remember what manufacturer.) I did not feel much difference in the following months. Shortly after I was diagnosed I lost my health insurance so any follow up tests had to be postponed. I continued the 100mcg dosage though. Fast forward to this past month. I have been employed and am currently signed up for a reduced care program.
Avatar f tn I did better on generic as well Barb. Took synthroid for one day and had a severe reaction. Went back to generic levo. Thank you for the information. I do make a point always asking if my levo is from the same manufacturer.
Avatar n tn I do fine on generic T4, which my doctor prescribes as only coming from Mylan. One of the issues with generics is that pharmacies give you whatever generic they have on hand when filling your scrip unless the doctor states otherwise, and not only does the FDA allow manufacturers of generics a plus-or-minus 10% variation in strength (in general and from batch to batch) from the brand name, but also each manufacturer uses different fillers, which have different absorption rates.
Avatar f tn They are the same component for the most part but every manufacturer is a big different. And every time you get a generic, you may get this manufacturer or that one. I think it shifts side effects can happen but usually efficacy stays the same. You can always request the brand name and pay for it. Which stinks that you'd have to do that.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Lipitor (20mg) and my wife has been taking Simvastatin. Prior to being put on medication, my cholesterol had been running about 205 for a long time and my wife's had been around 160. What is the difference betwen the two? My medication is considerably higher than mine? Can you explain why? My blood sugar was running abot 137 so my Doctor also put me on Actoplus as well. My Lipitor is about $100 and my wife's Simvastatin is about $6 (same quantity of tables-30).
Avatar m tn A few months ago I started a generic paxil from CVS. It is a different manufacturer than the generic I have been taking for about 3 years from Walmart. Since I have been taking the generic from CVS I have been extremely tired in the afternoons and now I don't feel well every afternoon like clockwork. I only take 15 milligrams of a 20 milligram pill and have been cutting it down for 2 years to only 15.Is this happening because the depression is coming on and the paxil is pooping out.?
Avatar m tn The color will depend on the generic manufacturer your pharmacy has a deal with and the dosage. And most people report brand name drugs, while a lot more expensive, work better. They certainly have better quality control as they don't have to cut corners because of low profit margins. Most of us do fine with generics, but then, since our docs pretty much always prescribe generic if it's available, most of us really don't know what the brand name feels like in comparison.
5066844 tn?1363095904 Your pharmacy probably just changed the manufacturer from which they buy their generic levo. The different manufacturers use different fillers in their tablets (the active ingredients in all are the same), and sometimes people react to those. One argument for taking a brand name rather than generic is that the manufacturer will always be the same. This keeps what you are taking more constant. Try calling your pharmacy to see if they have any of the old meds left.
Avatar f tn Is it safe to take the heartburn remedy Zantac (rantadine) while taking simvastatin.
Avatar m tn Are you taking generic levo as opposed to a brand name? If so, the generics used by the two pharmacies might be from two entirely different manuacturers, This is often the reason endos give for using brand names only. However, given that these are T4-only meds, that drastic a change in one day is unlikely due to the hormones in the two. BUT, different manufacturers use different fillers or binders, and you may have had a reaction to those.
Avatar f tn My pharmacy usually gives me generic by corepharma. Just once had (or gave it to me cause of my complaints) generic by another manufacturer where I didnt have all the side affects and worked much better. I found out its more exspensive so pharmacy doesnt have it often. Anybody can help with what are my rights to get the generic that works?
Avatar f tn Crestor is a statin (rosuvastatin calcium) only, Vytorin is a statin (Simvastatin) with Zetia (ezetimibe). Statins work by controlling the production of cholesterol in your liver while Zetia works by preventing cholesterol to be absorbed in your digestive system. Of the two, Crestor is the stronger of the two. In addition, recent trials have shown that adding Zetia does not improve the performance of Vytorin over Simvastatin alone.
Avatar m tn Advicor (lovastatin/niacin extended-release), Simcor (simvastatin/niacin extended-release), and Vytorin (simvastatin/ezetimibe).
Avatar n tn i have been taking tri-cor and simvastatin (40mg) for several years. Over the last 8 months i stopped taking the tri-cor because insurance no longer covered it and I decreased my simvastatin to 20mg. At the same time in increased my fiber significantly (metemucil and high fiber cereal daily) and began taking one 1000mg of fish oil each day. Lost a few pounds as well, I'm 41, 5'10" and 173lbs non-smoker.
Avatar n tn In the United States, brand names include Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothroid, Eltroxin, Tirosint and Unithroid; Generic forms are Levothyroxine sodium USP and L-thyroxine. There is still debate over whether generic thyroid supplements are as effective as thyroid brand name supplements.
Avatar n tn There are all kinds of statins out there, as ed said, you have to find out which one you tolerate. I have been on them for many years as I was unable to lower my LDL with diet and exercise alone. They have worked well and I have had no side effects, but everyone is different. Most of these can be replaced by the generic Simvastatin. It's cheap and is the basis of many of the meds out there.
15695260 tn?1549593113 Choices for a generic over the counter antacid just got smaller as the drug maker of generic ranitidine under the brand name of Zantac has pulled distribution of the medication world wide. Last week the FDA stated they found cancer causing chemicals in some samples taken from batches of generic rantitidine or Zantac. https://www.fda.
