Avatar m tn I am wondering if anyone has taken simvastatin, the generic brand for Zocor. I just started taking this on Friday and twice since then I seem to have had some strange side effects. It has caused an upset stomach and then made me feel very jittery. It was almost as if I had the chills and then both nights had a horrible time sleeping. The only similar item I ate or drank was Diet Cranberry Soda. I am not sure if this would have had an impact. Any insight would be great.
Avatar f tn When I told I could bear the cost, the doctor also suggested to go for generic for lipitor. Then I got from online at International Drug Mart.
519736 tn?1253986826 My husband was prescribed generic lipitor about a year ago. Prior to this he was advised to use Slo Niacin. When he began the lipitor, his dr. did not tell him to stop taking the Slo Niacin. He has been taking them together daily. Last week he experienced more frequent, loose bowels, but did not feel "sick"..This went away and he started to have muscle pain in the chest and upper back and his legs..that began 3 days ago. The muscle pain is preventing him from getting any sleep.
Avatar n tn What were your wife's other numbers? Were her triglycerides running high along with her LDL? What about her HDL, the good cholesterol levels? You can get a copy of her labs to look at the numbers. Her total cholesterol numbers look good but if the other numbers are out of balance that could be the reason her Dr prescribed meds. I'm surprised your Dr put you on meds.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your reply. I have been on simvastatin for about 2 months. Neurontin I just started taking for 30 days which I had stopped taking due to remission from TN pain. I m at present on Erythromycin for sore throat and as it interact with simvastatin the dr has asked to stop taking it until I complete the course of antibiotic.
Avatar m tn It has been shown that generic drugs is not any different than the non-generic. Its the same chemicals but the original drug maker has lost their patent rights. Patent rights are a method to help the orginal maker recover research and develpment costs. Thanks for your question. Take care.
Avatar n tn There are all kinds of statins out there, as ed said, you have to find out which one you tolerate. I have been on them for many years as I was unable to lower my LDL with diet and exercise alone. They have worked well and I have had no side effects, but everyone is different. Most of these can be replaced by the generic Simvastatin. It's cheap and is the basis of many of the meds out there.

Avatar m tn • An increase in liver enzymes • Hepatitis, which is an inflammation of the liver that can cause tiredness or a general feeling of illness • Jaundice, or a yellowing of the skin or eyes that can occur due to liver damage • A fatty change in the liver • Cirrhosis • Hepatoma, which is a type of liver cancer. Increases in liver enzymes occur in about 1 percent of people taking simvastatin. The other liver problems mentioned occur in less than 1 percent of people.
Avatar m tn The following fall/winter, as the weather began to cool down, I began to notice that my hands and feet were colder than normal. As I went in around August of 2011 for a follow up doc apt, I asked if having colder hands and feet were symptoms that some patients encountered. Both my general practioner and heart Dr. said that they have never heard of this. I used to be the one with the warmer body heat and my wife the colder one. Today it is reverse.

Avatar n tn Experienced the exact same problem after quitting smoking, and now 4 months later, I still have the same low HR (around 50-60), the dizzyness here and there, and the low BP too. I too went for a series of tests and all came back normal except for a large amount of PVC's i experience. I think some of us just experience this when quitting smoking, but other than that all sounds normal!
Avatar n tn i have been taking tri-cor and simvastatin (40mg) for several years. Over the last 8 months i stopped taking the tri-cor because insurance no longer covered it and I decreased my simvastatin to 20mg. At the same time in increased my fiber significantly (metemucil and high fiber cereal daily) and began taking one 1000mg of fish oil each day. Lost a few pounds as well, I'm 41, 5'10" and 173lbs non-smoker.
Avatar m tn t your doctor prescribe a statin drug? Generic drugs such as Simvastatin are very inexpensive, even in the US where one without any insurance would have to purchase out-of-pocket. So, unless you have a problem with statin meds, it should help a lot with your cholesterol problem.
Avatar f tn Can someone explain what, if any, evidence there for a switch from simvastatin to pravastatin? My husband's doctor said there is new evidence that simvastatin may be detrimental. Unfortunately, my husband did not quiz him further. He already has one stent in a narrow back artery but he has brought his cholesterol down considerably with the statins.
Avatar m tn curious if stef2011 or studyforhope or StephenCastlecrag know whether simvastatin by itself can reduce viral load? I've read about the effects in conjunction with NUCS but I'm curious if sim is effective alone.

Avatar f tn I have been taking simvastatin for three weeks since having a Tia but have also had a flu like cold for ten days , I am still having aching flu like pains which I would have thought would have passed by now . 1299944 tn?1304793305 I also take a prescription anticoagulant. Both are generic drugs and while more costly than aspirin they are not extremely expensive. Both are affordable if prescribed... if you see a doctor remind him/her if you prefer generic versions of drugs. In my experience most doctors do indicate generic substitution is approved if recommended by the pharmacist. More than you asked for, but maybe of some help.
Avatar f tn Here is what I found for Incivek or Victrelis in combo with Pegasys, Ribavirin and Simvastatin. Both PIs are contraindicated.
