Should i take fosamax for osteopenia

Common Questions and Answers about Should i take fosamax for osteopenia

fosamax

Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed Fosamax for osteopenia. I took the stuff for about 6 years, and each of my bone density test results were a little worse than the previous one. Recently I learned that many women who took this medication for as long as I did got femur fractures as a result. When a doctor on ABC national news suggested that women stop taking it after 5 years, I made an appointment with my doctor to discuss stopping this med. My doctor agreed, but now suggests that I take Evista.
Avatar n tn Fosamax has brought my bone density back within normal limits, and I continue to take it to maintain. As for RA itself, I don't think Fosamax has any direct effect on the disease, though it does prevent bone degeneration that could lead to increased joint pain.
Avatar n tn If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar n tn Other hip and spine are in the yellow zone for osteopenia. I am allergic to Bonita and Fosamax so for now trying exercise, calcium, vitamin D to combat it. My mom has it and I've been menopausal for 10 years now at the age of 43. I don't take magnesium. Should I be and what would be a good starting dose?
7469840 tn?1409845836 She has ordered a more complete blood panerl, so that should be interesting, will do that next week. It will be interesting to see if I can tolerate the Fosamax. Thanks for your support. Wish I had know about this possible Sx while treating, maybe could have taken Vit D and calcium to stop it.
Avatar n tn 35 years of empty sella, hi prolactin, testosterone injections, osteopenia, broken ribs and recently hip - and now at age 67 two of my children ages 33 and 36 flunk Dexa scans and are prescribed fosamax, which they refuse to take until hyperparathyroid is ruled out. I get labs showing PTHs of 63/(15-65), 51 and 45, with ionized calciums of 5.2, 5.3 and 5.4 on scale 4.5 - 5.6. Three endos and 2 GPs say it's all coincidental. Should we get treatment in Europe?
Avatar f tn Is there any calcium that works better than others? I have been on calcium and vitamin D supplements for years but went from osteopenia level to full-blown severe osteoporosis in a few years I would appreciate any advice since the medical field tells you nothing but to take medication and deal with the outcome!!
Avatar m tn Now for a bit of bad news: There’s not enough strontium in our food to have a significant effect if you have osteoporosis already, so if you’re suffering from this condition, you should take strontium in supplement form. But if you don’t have osteoporosis, it’s a good idea to eat foods that contain more strontium to prevent it from occurring. The largest amounts of strontium are found in spices, seafood, whole grains, root and leafy vegetables, and legumes.
Avatar f tn I have taken fosamax and actonel and have had stomach problems and aching bones. My doctor is thinking about the yearly injection of reclast. How safe is it and will I have more problems with my bones aching - I can't sleep at night a lot from the pain. This discussion is related to Atrial Fibulation / Multi-Infarct Dimentia.
Avatar f tn I need your expert opinion on something: I'm taking weekly generic Fosamax, daily 1200 calcium, daily 1400 D, and every other week 50,000 D. I hit menoapuse about 4 years ago. I have some pretty bad arthritis in my R hip, but my L is much more normal, though not totally normal. I walk briskly and climb stairs 5 days a week. > > 2-3 years ago I had taken the high dose D for 1 year, so my scores momentarily shot way up. Then last year my osteoporosis scores dropped 0.1 or 0.
Avatar f tn I take Fosamax with D once a week. Common practice among physicians is apparently 800-1000 ius of Vitamin D a day for good health. The single Fosamax pill has 5600 ius of D. Will this one pill suffice for my D intake all week and is it all right to have it all at once instead of single pills every day?
Avatar m tn My doctor has no suggestions, just rest more between exercises. My only meds are 50mcg of thyroxine, fosamax for osteopenia (18 months ago I had osteoporosis), and klonipin daily to help me sleep.
Avatar m tn He is on Fosamax after developing Heterotopic Ossification in his right hip area. Last week he suffered a femur fracture in his right leg. I am questioning whether he should be taking the Fosamax now due to the fracture that he suffered. Will Fosamax interfere with normal bone healing?
Avatar f tn I take FOSAMAX Dentist won’t pull my tooth? Why?
Avatar f tn When I ran cross-country in high school and college (7 and 6 years ago, respectively), I experienced 2 metatarsal stress fractures (one in each foot, subsequent years) and had low bone density (osteopenia) as a result of an eating disorder. I had been on fosamax for awhile, take calcium, and my weight is back to normal, so supposedly my bone density is fine now. I was also not running like I had in the past, but took regular walks and we blamed the pain on worn out tennis shoes.
Avatar n tn Lately I have seen several things that implied I might not should be taking Fosamax. I would enjoy hearing some opinions on this matter. Thanks.
Avatar m tn If you have osteoporosis, I think it is best to take the medication prescribed by your doctor. Supplements and herbal remedies are not approved by the FDA. I have not seen any studies to indicate that this is an effective alternative. While this may be beneficial, I would think the treatment plan would be the one your doctor prescribes.
Avatar f tn I had a bad reaction to Fosamax with severe digestive upset. Worse reactionwith Reclast;extremely swollen right leg especially around knee joint - could not even bend knee, terrible hip pain and two days later a tooth abscess. What are the chances I can tolerate Boniva once a month? My Endocrinologist wants me to try it.
Avatar f tn Dentist won’t pull my molar because I take FOSAMAX? I am 83. Says to have a root canal instead.
Avatar f tn Hi Kelsey: Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated. I will see my family doctor on Tuesday to get my dexa score. But for now I'm concerned with my reaction to the Arimidex. I took my first dose last Tuesday morning at 9:30am, at 12:30p I went to bed for a few hours. Long story, short....I've been feeling horrible since last Tuesday. No energy, very tired and shaky, MENTAL FOG, very emotional, I've cried at least one time everyday since.
Avatar m tn I am a 64 yearold male andbeen on Fosamax for a number of years. in the past two yrs I have had two unusuasl femer bone breaks left yhen right. the doctor noe caring 4 me just found this study after the red flag. Two simple "falls" two broken femers. It has been horrible. Need help bad.
Avatar f tn ll take blood and run specific tests. He suggested I do this because I had complained for the third time that I am unable to take the calcium pills he recommends because I experience tremendous bone pain after taking them. My gyno said the calcium shouldn't do this... but indeed it did. So I went to see my family doc. While in his office I explained everything... If I took calcium pills my bones would slowly begin to hurt but would stop after stopping taking it.
