Fosamax osteopenia

Common Questions and Answers about Fosamax osteopenia

fosamax

Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed Fosamax for osteopenia. I took the stuff for about 6 years, and each of my bone density test results were a little worse than the previous one. Recently I learned that many women who took this medication for as long as I did got femur fractures as a result. When a doctor on ABC national news suggested that women stop taking it after 5 years, I made an appointment with my doctor to discuss stopping this med. My doctor agreed, but now suggests that I take Evista.
Avatar n tn 35 years of empty sella, hi prolactin, testosterone injections, osteopenia, broken ribs and recently hip - and now at age 67 two of my children ages 33 and 36 flunk Dexa scans and are prescribed fosamax, which they refuse to take until hyperparathyroid is ruled out. I get labs showing PTHs of 63/(15-65), 51 and 45, with ionized calciums of 5.2, 5.3 and 5.4 on scale 4.5 - 5.6. Three endos and 2 GPs say it's all coincidental. Should we get treatment in Europe?
7469840 tn?1409845836 3 for right hip means osteopenia, pre-osteoporosis. 2.8 in left hip means osteoporosis. So new doc is putting me on Fosamax, calcium and Vitamin D, says it takes 1.5-2 years to regrow bone. I keep telling myself it is better than having hcv!
Avatar f tn I have just been diagnosed with Osteopenia (-2.0 in my spine, -1.4 in hip). I was stunned when the results came back because I have been active most of my life, plenty of weight bearing exercise, have no family history of osteoporosis and so on. After the diagnosis, I went looking and found that Combination Therapy is strongly associated with decreased bone mineral density in both men and women. The studies suggest that Ribavirin, rather than Interferon is the culprit.
Avatar n tn Other hip and spine are in the yellow zone for osteopenia. I am allergic to Bonita and Fosamax so for now trying exercise, calcium, vitamin D to combat it. My mom has it and I've been menopausal for 10 years now at the age of 43. I don't take magnesium. Should I be and what would be a good starting dose?
Avatar f tn My Vit D is also normal at 55 in June 09. I developed osteopenia in 2008, one year past GBS(rou-en-y). in 2009 my numbers had worsened by 5%, even with Boniva, then Fosamax. I have many of the symptoms of hyperparathyroid, most notably new dx of A-Fib in the last year. What should I do? Should I be concerned?
Avatar f tn I was wondering how many of you out there at my age or near my age have it too? I had osteopenia of the spine 4 years ago and now it is osteoporosis. The hip has gotten worse on one side by 3% and the other side by 6 %.I can't take estrogen due to having previous blood clots and I have 1000mg of calcium a day and vitamin D is at 60. That is very normal. My doctor is going to increase the vitamin D to 80, towards the higher end of the range.
Avatar m tn Anyone hear the All Things Considered piece on how Fosamax became a bestseller for bone density? A great story, and a cautionary tale of our current pharmaceutical industry and their voracious hunger to sell meds.
Avatar f tn I have taken fosamax and actonel and have had stomach problems and aching bones. My doctor is thinking about the yearly injection of reclast. How safe is it and will I have more problems with my bones aching - I can't sleep at night a lot from the pain. This discussion is related to Atrial Fibulation / Multi-Infarct Dimentia.
Avatar f tn I need your expert opinion on something: I'm taking weekly generic Fosamax, daily 1200 calcium, daily 1400 D, and every other week 50,000 D. I hit menoapuse about 4 years ago. I have some pretty bad arthritis in my R hip, but my L is much more normal, though not totally normal. I walk briskly and climb stairs 5 days a week. > > 2-3 years ago I had taken the high dose D for 1 year, so my scores momentarily shot way up. Then last year my osteoporosis scores dropped 0.1 or 0.
Avatar f tn I took Fosamax, calcium, magnesium and vitamin D - along with multivitamins - throughout treatment without any adverse effects.
Avatar f tn I have been on Fosamax for # months but am worried about the side effects. Is there any calcium that works better than others? I have been on calcium and vitamin D supplements for years but went from osteopenia level to full-blown severe osteoporosis in a few years I would appreciate any advice since the medical field tells you nothing but to take medication and deal with the outcome!!
Avatar f tn My PA who ordered my bone DEXA scan (since I have osteopenia), had ordered it because it had been 2 yrs since my last one. I had it done on Tues. and they called me today saying that my bone density had worsened and now I'm considered advanced osteopenia 'right before osteoporosis'. They want me to come in to talk to her about further treatment, more aggressive treatment'. My husband thinks that since I just had the 3 mon.
Avatar n tn I have had osteopenia for many years; I have been able to rebuild my bone density by taking calcium and magnesium, but if you've already been diagnosed with osteoporosis, you might need to go on a med specifically for that. What is your current thyroid status?
Avatar f tn The kidney and urinary problems are related to kidney stones. It sounds like you need fosamax for the osteopenia. I can't say if all of these are related. Sorry if I didn't help much.
Avatar m tn I am questioning whether he should be taking the Fosamax now due to the fracture that he suffered. Will Fosamax interfere with normal bone healing?
Avatar m tn My doctor has no suggestions, just rest more between exercises. My only meds are 50mcg of thyroxine, fosamax for osteopenia (18 months ago I had osteoporosis), and klonipin daily to help me sleep.
Avatar m tn My wifes orthodontist recommended a consultation with a periodontist prior to him starting the procedure for braces. My wife is a 65 year old in good health who has taken FOSAMAX for 5 1/2 years. She wants to get her teeth straightened. The periodontist has recommended a procedure to reinforce the gums prior to the braces. This has added an additional 6K to the price and about 3 months to the total time to straighten the teeth.
Avatar f tn I am 48 yrs. old and was diagnosed with b/c in July of 2008. I have undergone a lumpectomy, chemotherepy -AC/T and radiation. I finished this course last spring. I was also on tamoxifen until about four weeks ago. I had an ooferectomy almost 2 weeks ago as a precaution, as my mother died of ovarian cancer at the age of 59. I felt great until I started Arimidex on Tuesday, and now I feel horrible.
Avatar f tn I believe there is a link between prolonged use of fosamax and oseonecrosis of the mandible. Who might I contact for positive confirmation?
Avatar n tn Can prolonged Fosamax use damage the throat lining and if so, what is the treatment?
Avatar n tn I am a "heart patient" and have been taking Fosamax to improve bone density. Lately I have seen several things that implied I might not should be taking Fosamax. I would enjoy hearing some opinions on this matter. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I am taking Ipriflavone and Calcium with Vitamin D3 for my bone health. The Dr. prescribed Fosamax, but after reading about how it can cause weak bones, (what it's supposed to help) I discovered Ipriflavone. It's a bone builder that muscle builders use - I have fallen and not broken any bones - (I have osteopenia) I am sorry to say that I really don't know what would help your hearing loss - I think I would research all the vitamins and minerals to find something if it were me.
