Hi, does anyone know i you can take Amitriptyline and Sertraline at the same time. I have been taking Amitriptyline for a while for depression and pain but 6 weeks ago I suffered a stroke and my depression is worse so was given Sertraline along with the other.
- in the last year i drank alcohol only twice or 3 times as maximum
- i was diagnosed as depressed five years ago and i take antidepressants since then, I was taking (solotik) sertraline 50 mg and (tryptizol) Amitriptyline 25mg and trianil(Clomipramine) 25 mg, then i switched (by doctor orders) to (Seraline) sertraline 50 mg and (minitran) Amitriptyline hydrochloride - Perphenazine 25-2 mg.
Ok been on pain meds for over 15 years I am now on zomorph, oramorph, pregabiline, amitriptyline,propranolol sertraline + solpidol, tramidol also like a sniff of cocaine too much to be honest.
My pain is constaint never leaves me alone 24/7.
Would like not to be so dependant but cant see a way out effercts everything work marrage life
anybody got a soulution or help ?
Then the Spanish Neuro Consultant prescribed me with preventative med - a very low dose of anti depression tablets (Sertraline 50 mg at breakfast time and Amitriptyline 10 mg, in the evening - I now have only half a tablet am and pm) which thank the Lord have changed my life! Ask your GP or Neuro Cons. re this. Hope it helps - I suffered for YEARS before!
I was on effexor for a long time, it did absolutely nothing for me. Now the doctor switched me to Sertraline with Seroquel at night and Clonazapam 3 times a day.
After the first week I honestly thought I was getting better, but this week I haven't been sleeping (not even an hour) and feel severely depressed.

I've suffered with depression since having my son 17 years ago, I've been put on many different meds, prozac, sertraline, dothiepin, amitriptyline, mirtazapine, citalopram, I'm now on Viepax XL 75mg (since yesterday) and was wondering how well they work for people? as I don't want to be changeing meds every 5 mins.
s Wort in conjunction with Magnesium for fibromyalgia and I had it under control with that. The reason it works is that the St. John's Wort increases the serotonin in the body and the with the magnesium it just does wonders. But, I have read that with pregnancy that you should NOT take it just like any mood enhancer.

I am not a doctor. But my neurologist prescribed both 10 mg of Amitriptyline and Imitrex. So I think it should be fine. You can ask a pharmacist or your doctor to make sure. But I am on both of those plus Trokendi XR and Clonazepam.
I use to take amitriptyline and have some pharmacy background. I suggest no drinking with amitriptyline to be on the safe side. Amitriptyline plus alcohol could equal respiratory depression, which means possible passing out or in fatal cases even death. It's just not worth the possible complication even if it is only a 0.10% chance of happening.
I started my taper again! I hope I can get off of this merry go round. I was having horrible pain in my gut for 2 weeks. It seems to be subsiding now. So I cut out 1 15mg oxy pill yesterday. I don't feel great but now it's doable. The urologist I saw told me I had IC. I still don't think I have that. She prescribed me amitriptyline 25mg for pain and sleep. I finally broke down last night and took a half a 25mg pill. I'm terrified of taking another pill and just want to be clean.
An Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Specialit has prescribed me Amitriptyline 10mg once a day at bed time with Antacid for voice recovery (loosing voice and coarse). I was surprised when the pharmacist explained it as a pain-killer and many in here describe it as Antidepresent. I neither have Pain of any kind nor Depression at all. Then, wonder why Amitriptyline?
Has any one else been prescribed Amitriptyline for treatment of voice disorders or heard of treatment of vocal chords?
I was on Amitriptyline-150mg and Topamax 100mg for at least a year for headaches. Within the last three months I was put on Lexapro 10mg and Allerx PE also for my headaches. My headaches are beginning to become under control with steroid injections and I am about to have sinus surgery. My concern is that in the past year I have gained 35lbs. I am a very active person who works out and also watches what I eat. I don't know what to do.
Are these two drugs compatable levothyroxine and sertraline hcl? Does your thyroid control your blood sugar?

I am on Effexor as well and have gained about 12 pounds since starting as well. My doctor doesn't think it is in direct connection with the effexor but I am struggling with whether or not I should get off it because I can't explain the weight gain. The explanation given makes sense to me, so I guess I need to focus more on my eatting habits.
However, a study of people with congestive heart failure and depression failed to show any additional benefit from EPA (930 mg) and DHA (750 mg) daily when added to treatment with the prescription antidepressant sertraline (Zoloft).
The best evidence for omega-3's has been in cases of major and moderate depression, but not mild depression, and one group of researchers has concluded that the antidepressant benefit is strongly dependent upon the EPA content of the supplement.
