Common Questions and Answers about Rsv symptoms and

rsv

Avatar f tn She emailed that if you baby has a cough with no fever, please take them to get checked for RSV. My DD is 6 months old and has had a chronic cough for a long time. It seems to get better and then starts all over again. I have taken to the doctor for it three times, the last time a week ago today. Everytime they check her really good and say it is just drainage from a cold. She has not had any fever and feels good. Last night her cough seemed a little worse, but she still feels great.
Avatar n tn He has all of the symptoms of RSV...they did the mucous test and said he has moderate case and that the ventolin and cortisone inhaler will help make him comfortable, although I am losing faith in his Dr. since I was the one that was showing the most concern for an answer. We have been in to see her once a week for 12 weeks...he has ran 2 very high fevers that lasted days each one, along with crying when coughing...is this a true diagnoses or is she covering her tracks for treatment?
368785 tn?1270432283 Diagnosed with RSV and Bronchiolitis.
Avatar m tn Can RSV cause cardiac arrest in a child with passed myocarditis and would he qualify to recieve rsv shot to prevent him from getting it.
172411 tn?1287086265 RSV is a virus that is quite common at this time of the year - do whatever the doctor tells you and your little one will be good - untreated and uncared for, RSV can go into pneumonia, etc - its a lot of respiratory symptoms, similar to a cold or flu and seems to effect infants most commonly - probably because they are so small and immune systems are weak - do what the doctor says - and your little guy will be ok
Avatar n tn Some w/ ear inf., others with RSV, and some with bronchiolitis. My son has not been that sick. He has had two bouts of bronchiolitis (9mths apart)and a sinus infection, all in one year. He has had congestion that he can't get rid of and a cough ( not nearly as bad as others I have read). Although sometimes his cough makes him vomit. I guess my question is this.....Could he have been misdiagnosed? Or are there less severe symptoms that go along with RAD? Please help!
602157 tn?1443562354 It started where I was bed ridden for 3 days with a fever and chills and now its just a constant battle with congestion and a cough. I still have odd pains around my body but it feels like its never going. Any help with how long this virus can last? Thanks!
Avatar f tn Hi, understand your anxiety. RSV infections generally occur during fall, winter, and early spring. The timing and severity of RSV circulation in a given community can vary from year to year. If other children in your community show symptoms then it is probable that the infection is present. Usually children show symptoms within 4 to 6 days of infection. Most will recover in 1 to 2 weeks. If his symptoms persist, you should consult your doctor. Regards.
Avatar f tn Since last June he has ran a temp at least once a month(usually more). He was treated for RSV about 2 weeks ago and is also being treated for asthma symptoms. He finished a round of antibotics about a week ago and as of last Friday has started running fever again. It generally runns between 99-101 but has recently started rising to 103-104.5(it was 104.5 when I took him to the hosp and he tested positive for RSV).
Avatar n tn Maybe go for a second opinion. I would.. It very well could be RSV. My daughter has alot of the same symptoms and they are tryign to figure out what it is.. does he seem to be in distress when his lips turn blue... or does anything about him change when he has a fever... or coughing??? If your doctor isnt giving you proper advice. Go get a second opinion.
1690584 tn?1340297472 Savannah was admitted to the hospital for RSV, Bronchitis, Ear Infection. Stayed until Saturday but was released earlier then she should have been due to Christmas. Her oxygen levels were still not staying up high but she is now doing better. She does have a partial collapse of the right lung and they want to no check her heart due to some blue around the mouth.
Avatar f tn I was told yesturday that my 7yr old has RSV and it got bad in one day.. I'm worried because, my 3yr old has RAD and is now showing symptoms of the same thing. Her Dr is closed. Im giving her treatments every 4 hours should I start doing it every 3 like her sister? She trys to blow her nose and tells me crying it won't come out, it'll run a little, but it seems to be doing the same as her sister.. Is 99.5 under her pit something I should be worried about?
Avatar n tn My second little guy got RSV at 10 weeks from daycare and we are still dealing with respitory problems and he will be 5 months next week. I hope you don't have to deal with RSV, our episodes were very scary and I almost had to hospitalize my second one, we were told we were lucky he was 10 weeks, a week or 2 younger and it could have been way worse.
Avatar n tn Hi, just thought I would reply to you. I have a 7mth old son who was dx with RAD. He had RSV back in December and was wheezing at the time. His x-ray showed reactive airway disease but they were/are uncertain if it was due to RSV. Since then he has had a cold pretty much one after the other (I have two other children) since then. The albuterol treatments did not do much when he had the RSV..the wheezing continued and my ped. said if it was asthma the neb.
Avatar n tn During the course of this viral infection, a child can develop a secondary bacterial infection. The symptoms of this infection can be more severe in nature than the RSV and lead to higher temperature and greater difficulty. This can happen quite quickly. The source of this infection could be from the ears or sinuses or directly into the lungs. I hope this helps answer some of your questions.
372328 tn?1214776427 I would suggest you take her in now, just to rule out RSV (peak season runs from Oct -March). It's a quick nose swab test. When my daughter was 9 mo old, she had similar symptoms and I wish i hadn't waited so long. She did have RSV and needed nebulizer treatments to help treat it. Had I waited another day or so, we probably would have ended up in the hospital. Don't mean to scare you, but RSV can be very serious in kids under 2.
377012 tn?1283965435 10-17-08-----started running back-to-back fevers of 104-105! 10-18-08-----took him to doc and RSV was positive with possible pneumonia!!! 10-19-08-----took him back to docs for another review and x-ray shows patches on his lungs, so he does have RSV and Pneumonia...on top of that he is getting a viral infection!!!! this past week and a 1/2 has been the worst of all, i just wish he could hurry up and get rid of all of this, but i must be patient and continue getting him better!
Avatar f tn He did get RSV at 10 weeks old and never did lose the rattle in his chest, but it got worse last week. He began to wheeze the beginning of hte week and the nurse asked if I thought he needed to come in, I thought he should be okay as she told me to neb him again and see if it helps. By Thursday he was still wheezing and sounding worse so they wanted to see him. They said his acid reflux was so bad it caused RAD (reactive airway).
377012 tn?1283965435 uuggghhh it was like acid coming up green watery substance. my son was diagnosed with RSV yesterday and i was wondering if im not preggo then could the RSV affect me causing me to feel this way?????
Avatar f tn I am not sure my now 6 year old son, Chris got a severe case of RSV when he was 5 weeks old. I also had a 20 month at home with a "cold" My 20 month old, Gary was never tested for RSV because he wasn't in distress. Chris got it again when he was 2 1/2 years old and it was the middle of summer.
377012 tn?1283965435 (crying all night) so i left out some info! in Oct. he was diagnosed with RSV and then again at the end of Nov.-first of Dec. he had it again! unfortunately RSV can take up to 8 weeks before it is released from your system hence why he had it twice in 2 months....the reason i thought it could be pneumonia is because of the way is chest moves when he breathes and because RSV can cause pneumonia to be set up in your system since your system is low especially in toddlers!
377012 tn?1283965435 My son has been sick for 2 weeks now and his RSV test came back positive yesterday....his doctor did a chest x-ray and found patches on his lungs and thought that it may be pneumonia! he has to go back today at 2pm for more tests and if it is pneumonia then he has to be sent almost 2 hours away to see another doctor because she is unable to admit him to the hospital.......how is rsv different from pneumonia!!!????
Avatar f tn I suggest you see the doctor you might have a kidney infection.
Avatar f tn My baby has just turned 6 month old, and I took her to the doctor because she was wheezing and had a runny nose. THey tested her for RSV and i did not hear anything because of the holiday but they just called today and her RSV test came back possitive. They already prescribed her an inhaler is there anything else I can do. She is coughing ALOT.
1347128 tn?1333810296 Your description of his continuing symptoms suggests that the lingering problem is limited to his nose and throat, not his lungs, which is what we have to worry about with RSV. I also gather that, while keeping his nose clear is the main problem that he is, otherwise, not in any respiratory distress. Also your statement that “he is a happy boy” is very encouraging, an important positive sign.
490418 tn?1209523379 He did get Synagis until his third winter. He was in the hospital for most of RSV season his first two years and did not get RSV. The next year we were denied Synagis due to the cost. He ended up on a vent in the PICU for a week. The following winter he spent 10 days in the hospital with RSV. This year he spent the first week in PICU and the next two week on Eccmo. He died on his 6th birthday. We never even heard of RSV IG. Who is a candidate for this med?
Avatar f tn A few moments later, the babysitter walked up the hallway and stood at the doorway of the living room with my baby limp and blue in her arms, and all she said was that she found her face down in her pillow. She proceeded to lay my baby down on one of her couches, and she went and sat on the other one. By this time, my boyfriend and I were already hysterical and I remember screaming at the top of my lungs and falling on my knees to the floor. I knew it was already too late by that time.
