1368291 tn?1299629804 Saturday he was having lots of nasal congestion and coughing so I took him to the ER. He tested positive for RSV so the last few days have been scary. We are doing a cool mist humidifier with eucalyptus oil at night, albuterol breathing treatments and keeping his nose suctioned out. I hope he gets better soon but I did learn that apparently you cant trust family to let you know...
Avatar n tn My 12 month twin girls both had RSV in March with one hospitalized for 5 days on oxygen. One week after they were over the RSV they began coughing, just at night. The family doc we see first tried decongestants, then Zantac, and now we are doing albuterol/pulmicort nebs twice a day. Since they only cough at night does it seem possible that they are coming in contact with a bedroom allergy? The cough is loose and rattley sounding and sometimes they gag or vomit.
Avatar f tn My 2 year old son acquired severe RSV at 6 weeks old. Ever since then he now has virally induced asthma. So he's been hospitalized a few times with bronchiolitis when he was 1 years old. The typical treatment has been 2ce a day pulmicort and 3xs a day to every 4 hours of albuterol. If that didn't work they would add predisone and sometimes zithromax. And those combos knocked it out. Well he now has 3 weeks of a rattling cough that just doesn't go away.
765043 tn?1234583003 Im so scared. My son is on life support. 5 days now. He gets better and than all of a sudden he gets worse. Is there neone out there who can help. His lungs are all clouded. And his oxegyn went as low as 64. or 61. They had him on the bag until it stayed up on his own with the ventilater. Does anyone have any input. Please pray everyone!
Avatar n tn My seven month old has had a runny nose (clear mucus) and cough for around one month. In the past week he has had difficulty sleeping at night, increased fussiness, and a preference for being held upright. I took him to the pediatrician today and she did a brief check and said that he didn't have an ear infection, prescribed an albuterol nebulizer treatment four times a day, zantac, and zyrtec for reflux (he spits up less than one teaspoon, maybe twice a day) and allergies.
193609 tn?1292180293 They did a breathing treatment while we waited for the RSV test to come back. (he is getting the RSV vaccine) After the test came back negative we had to do another breathing treatment. They finally sent us home with a nebulizer and I have to give him a breathing treatment every 4 hours until we can get into the ped on monday!!! If its not one thing its another with this kid!!!!
Avatar m tn I was in the ER a year ago because I felt like I was suffocating to death, and was hearing crackles in my chest. RSV B virus according to the nasal aspiration test lab results. (RSV-a pleasant way to die-you slowly suffocate but don't have any of the nasal sinus throat pain that comes with flu.) Xrays were negative but oxygenation rate was 85% and they gave me oxygen and an Albuterol nebulizer treatment, discharged home with antibiotics and an inhaler.
Avatar n tn Since then he has had a cold pretty much one after the other (I have two other children) since then. The albuterol treatments did not do much when he had the RSV..the wheezing continued and my ped. said if it was asthma the neb. treatment would have worked to cease the wheezing. Even during his colds he has a lot of clear phlegm, sometimes coughing will bring up the phelgm if he vomits and if I do a neb. treatment it loosens the pleghm more, but he will still breathe a bit harder.
Avatar n tn At 4 weeks old he was hospitalized with RSV and pneumonia. He has always had a lingering caugh which is usually dry unless he has a cold and many times acts up at night. At 10 months old he had ear tubes placed because of frquent ear infections. At 1 year he had his adenoids removed due to a constant thick green discharge from his nose for many months.
Avatar f tn I took my 4 week old to the ER and they told me he has RSV. They just gave me a paper on it, They didn't really tell me what to do except suction out his nose. I read the paper ad it told me that in mild disease that no specific treatment is necessary. So I guess he is only a mild case, but I don't know how to tell if he is getting worse. I read on another site that family history of asthma puts him at a higher risk for becoming a severe case. I am know wen he is getting worse?
Avatar n tn ~ Used albuterol inhaler at recess due to allergy symptoms
Avatar n tn My son is 21nths and has just been recently diagnosed with RAD. In reading what the symptoms of RAD actuall are, I am concerned that my son has been incorrectly diagnosed. He does not have wheezing or difficulty breathing. He does however have severe congestion that doesn't help his breathing. The allergist we took him to stated that his adenoids were enlarged and she had us take an x-ray.

Avatar f tn RSV is a very serious complication with children under the age of 2, but it can affect anyone. It is a severe upper respiratory infection. If you've taken her to get checked out she has a clean bill of health, trust your docs! They take RSV very seriously. My newborn niece had RSV. She had a rattly cough in her lungs and had to have breathing treatments.
192918 tn?1199451179 My boys too. Carson got pneumonia at 11 weeks, Cameron got RSV at 10 weeks. We were pretty much screwed from then on. Carson outgrew it by 3, the weren't sure he would due to family history and how bad it was. Around 2 it was much better and only triggered when he got sick, by 3 we were done and haven't had to neb anymore, he's 4 now and doing great. He's got a bad cold, but his airways are fine. Cameron is 9 months too and we have had a tough time with him.
Avatar n tn Posted By Tiffini Suarez on April 17, 1999 at 17:29:18 Dear Dr. Thank you in advance for your time. Maybe you can help me shed some light as to what might be going on with my daughter. She is 18 months old and weighs 21 pounds. She was born at 26 weeks gestation with a birthweight of 745 grams. She was on the vent for 3 days and on oxygen for nearly 3 months. She had ROP and BPD as well as other discharge diagnoses.
Avatar n tn So I took my DD to the docotr yesterday due to severe chest congestion, she also has a very runny nose and a fever. Well he did a nose swab on her because he thinks she might have RSV. HAs anybody out there experienced with any of thier children or know of somebody who has. I am still waiting for the docotr to call with the results but she seems to be getting worse. I looked some onfo on the internet but you guys on here are so informative so I thought I would ask.
Avatar n tn I'm 24 years old and smoked both ciggarettes and cloves for three years. I quit two months ago when I started having a very hard time breathing. I went to a doctor on campus who diagnosed me with asthma and gave me albuterol. The albuterol has helped a great deal, but I'm having trouble figuring out exactly what the symptoms of asthma are. There are times when my chest doesn't feel *tight* per se, but I feel like I'm not pulling in enough air with each breath.
Avatar f tn It started with constant ear infections and RSV infection as infant. He has had bronchial-pneumonia and pneumonia, and gets continuous colds and bronchitis, and is sick much more often than is well. The pediatrician thought he might have underlying allergies and/or asthma and prescribed zyrtec and singulair. He does require albuterol during episodes of illness to treat wheezing.
Avatar n tn Some w/ ear inf., others with RSV, and some with bronchiolitis. My son has not been that sick. He has had two bouts of bronchiolitis (9mths apart)and a sinus infection, all in one year. He has had congestion that he can't get rid of and a cough ( not nearly as bad as others I have read). Although sometimes his cough makes him vomit. I guess my question is this.....Could he have been misdiagnosed? Or are there less severe symptoms that go along with RAD? Please help!
Avatar n tn When he was 6 weeks old he got a cold and was breathing very heavy, his whole body from his waist up was sucking in with each breath, chest x rays were taken everything was clear,Dr thought it was RSV sent him with neb. machine. The next day he was worse I was told to bring him to the hospital his was on rounds and he would be paged to the ER, another Dr checked him over before my Dr got there and said my son sounded like a 30 yr old with bronchitis.
284087 tn?1268275123 He has had pneumonia at least 5 times in the last year, some mild some not. We do emergency treatments at night, Albuterol and Pulm. every 30 min 3 times to calm the coughing or respirations down. We have been to two diffrent astma and allergy speciallists. He now takes the same dose of asthma meds that I do. He has been on 18 plus rounds of antibotics. I could go on but, to the qusetion. It seems that he just keeps getting worse as he gets older. Is this going to continue?
478429 tn?1265244387 -) Peyton is doing much better and she can probably go home today. Her RSV came back negative so they are thinking probably Bronchiolitis. I'll talke more to the doc today. I brought her to the ER Sunday evening b/c she had a really hard cough, rapid/labored breathing and was wheezing. She got 3 nebulizer treatments in an hour and a half in the ER which helped some, but her stats still didn't stay up.
Avatar n tn My son has had a fever for 4 days along with a cough and breathing difficulties I took him to the emerg and had a chest x ray that showed nothing but the emerg doctor gave me a prescription for 10 days of antibiotics and no matter how many times i asked what he was treating with the antibiotics he would beat around the bush and not give me an answer I took him to the clinic and the doctor there said he thought he had brochiolitis and said that the doctor at the hospital is a good guy and to gi
Avatar f tn s still within the age range of being at risk for getting RSV. Since his older brother had it when he was 9 months old it was so scary I dislike the winters because I fear every cold/cough they get. Has the RSV season begun already? My kids just started getting this cough, all of them have been just fine even my 3 yo until an hour ago...7pm. He has been breathing rapidly (53) since then but he doesn't have a fever or crying. He's sitting down now watching a video now.
Avatar n tn He was diagnose with asthma at 6 weeks and has been on pulmicort and albuterol since then.He has been hospitilized with RSV and bronciolitis and since then has been doing alittle worse. He looks and acts normal and can have days where he is fine but can also have days to where every couple of hours his state changes form good to bad. His pulmonologist thinks he may have bronchial malasia but i dont understand exactly what that is or what that can do to him.
