551885 tn?1300383822 Does anyone else have to bring their preemies for Synagis shots still? Last month was supposed to be the last but they called a couple of weeks ago and told us that half the kids that are coming in sick are testing positive for RSV and if Cassidy got it she would go back to the NICU again so I guess this month will be the last.
Avatar f tn Wow, have you had her evaluated for RSV? CJ was very similar as a newborn, turns out when we all went to get out flu shots when he was an infant, he picked up RSV, which is essentially a persistent cold in infants and generally only causes problems with preemies or otherwise immunosuppressed infants. His simply presented as a persistent slew of cold symptoms and a chronic productive cough. Anyway, it caused me a great deal of grief, though admittedly CJ seemed less bothered by it than I was.
Avatar n tn Did you decide to get the RSV shots for your baby? And are they going to be in daycare or exposed to other children alot? We only have 3 kids in the family that she would be around, and not if they are sick. Just looking for advice, sorry this got so long, and thanks for taking the time to read it and give advice!
Avatar f tn That's so scary!!!!!! I didn't even know what RSV was until I read forums about preemies going out. Now I'm freaking out!!! My son was born early and he always breathes fast then slow. He's working on regulating his breathing so I can't tell if that's his normal breathing or not. A lot of the symptoms are stuff that he does normally so it's extra scary. In Hawaii the rsv season is November to April and he was born November 14.
284738 tn?1283106819 he just got his 3rd and last synagis until rsv season starts back up again in october. the good news is, rsv season is almost over. unfortunately, our little ones got it at the very end. :( i know it's still out there even when it's not in season, but it's not as bad... hope your little one gets better soon!!
Avatar n tn My twin sister and I were preemies and had to stay in the hospital for about a month after we were born. We were always tall for our age until high school, played sports, and even walked early.
377012 tn?1283965435 10-17-08-----started running back-to-back fevers of 104-105! 10-18-08-----took him to doc and RSV was positive with possible pneumonia!!! 10-19-08-----took him back to docs for another review and x-ray shows patches on his lungs, so he does have RSV and Pneumonia...on top of that he is getting a viral infection!!!! this past week and a 1/2 has been the worst of all, i just wish he could hurry up and get rid of all of this, but i must be patient and continue getting him better!
172411 tn?1287086265 Okay, so for preemies it can be bad news, but for term babies it isn't that bad. My son was dx'd with it when he was roughly 10 days old, it is a virus with symptoms that are very much like the viruses that we get this time of year in the form of a cold. I was given a med, didn't use it as after a few doses we saw no improvement. You cannot get rid of a virus with meds and since it wasn't helping the symptoms, I tossed it.
Avatar f tn I am now 27 weeks with second boy and been receiving the Mckenna shots weekly. I started to feel that same anxiety too.
Avatar n tn He is doing great health wise. He does not have any known health problem. he gets the synergis shot for RSV... It must be working because he is practically the only kid in our town that is not sick. I know he'll catch up, it just helps to know other preemies out there are waiting to reach milestones.
Avatar f tn My little boy was born at 36 weeks and was in good health. His first year has been difficult. RSV. Milk protein allergies and eczema. Which pediatrician attributes to being early. He will be a year old on the 10th and he is off all medications and is slowly switching to plain old milk. Things will be fine. Being I. The hospital you will have the best care.
Avatar n tn So I took my DD to the docotr yesterday due to severe chest congestion, she also has a very runny nose and a fever. Well he did a nose swab on her because he thinks she might have RSV. HAs anybody out there experienced with any of thier children or know of somebody who has. I am still waiting for the docotr to call with the results but she seems to be getting worse. I looked some onfo on the internet but you guys on here are so informative so I thought I would ask.
Avatar n tn My daughter was 7 weeks early. Since she was a premature the Dr.s made it mandatory she get RSV shots. This helps the child from getting ill, It sound like if your child did not get these shots he might be getting symptoms of RSV. Here are some I know of: having a simple clear runny nose and occasional cough that can be treated at home, to severe difficulty breathing that may require hospitalization. Other symptoms might include a low-grade fever, sore throat, headache, and irritability.

193609 tn?1292180293 They are his 6 month shots. His doc never really tells me what they are giving him, they just hand me a sheet with info about them and call it good. HIs ped thinks the most protection is best for a preemie...who knows!

Her oxygen levels were still not staying up high but she is now doing better. She does have a partial collapse of the right lung and they want to no check her heart due to some blue around the mouth.
Avatar n tn Last year he had pneumonia 5 times between April06 and January 07, then a week long hospital stay in Feb for RSV.... since then they sent him for allergy testing and he scored allergies to just about every type of tree, grass, and mold.... so he is starting allergy shots along with Zyrtec, Singulair. He has been on the FloVent inhaler since march and has done really well with it.
Avatar n tn My child was born 7 weeks early. It sounds like your shild did not get his/her RSV shots. Here are the symptoms. Please get him/her tested ASAP it could be life threatening : Again, the symptoms of RSV infections can range from having a simple clear runny nose and occasional cough that can be treated at home, to severe difficulty breathing that may require hospitalization. Other symptoms might include a low-grade fever, sore throat, headache, and irritability.
942918 tn?1276200156 Alicia was born 6/2 at 4:04 pm. She weighed 6 lbs 14 oz, was 20.5 inches long, & her head was 12.75 inches. She has brown hair & brown eyes. The video is hilariously shot by my daughter & has some great shots of the floor since she was looking with her eyes & not the lens. She did get a brief shot of the head coming out & video of immediately after the birth when they were suctioning her mouth out. Alicia looked right into the camera & didn't cry once.

Avatar f tn I was born a month early, I only weighted 4 LBS 9 Oz, and I was discharged after 24 hours, but my mom had some complications during the birth so she had to stay for 2 weeks in the hospital, which meant so did I.
Avatar f tn I was pregnant with twins. Lost my son at 23 weeks. Delivered my daughter at 27weeks. She'll be 2 in aug. We were in the NICU for 3 months. You can expect baby to get a couple blood transfusions and be on a ventilator for at least a month. Feeding tube for almost your whole stay. Any other questions just ask. :) everything will be fine. The alarms will scare the crap out of you every time. Dont worry. Nurse comes in every time it goes off.
Avatar f tn These weekly shots help to desensitize his immune system to pollens/cat dander/molds and dust mites. My daughter has take these shots for a number of years and they helped reduce her allergy/asthma symptoms substantially. It is more work, but well worth it if it works well for your child.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had a preemie in the nnicu for an extended period of time?
