Common Questions and Answers about Rsv virus preemies

Avatar f tn That's so scary!!!!!! I didn't even know what RSV was until I read forums about preemies going out. Now I'm freaking out!!! My son was born early and he always breathes fast then slow. He's working on regulating his breathing so I can't tell if that's his normal breathing or not. A lot of the symptoms are stuff that he does normally so it's extra scary. In Hawaii the rsv season is November to April and he was born November 14.
Avatar f tn Wow, have you had her evaluated for RSV? CJ was very similar as a newborn, turns out when we all went to get out flu shots when he was an infant, he picked up RSV, which is essentially a persistent cold in infants and generally only causes problems with preemies or otherwise immunosuppressed infants. His simply presented as a persistent slew of cold symptoms and a chronic productive cough. Anyway, it caused me a great deal of grief, though admittedly CJ seemed less bothered by it than I was.
284738 tn?1283106819 he just got his 3rd and last synagis until rsv season starts back up again in october. the good news is, rsv season is almost over. unfortunately, our little ones got it at the very end. :( i know it's still out there even when it's not in season, but it's not as bad... hope your little one gets better soon!!
551885 tn?1300383822 Does anyone else have to bring their preemies for Synagis shots still? Last month was supposed to be the last but they called a couple of weeks ago and told us that half the kids that are coming in sick are testing positive for RSV and if Cassidy got it she would go back to the NICU again so I guess this month will be the last.
Avatar n tn Right after she was born her doctor signed an order that she could get the RSV shots starting Nov. 1st. At her 1 month Appt on Sept 24th she weighed 7 pounds 8.4 ounces, and has been doing great, she will not be in daycare, we don't have any other kids, and her doctor didn't think she would need the shots because she is doing so great and insurance wouldn't cover them because we don't have 2 qualifing factors.
220217 tn?1209679677 I loved Mylicon, but still didn't help my boys sleep, did quiet some of the screaming and crying. I hope it continues to work wonders for you! We have battled RSV, and the vaccine isn't offered to all kiddos. I think they only offer it to preemies or high risk kiddos, they have to really do some paperwork to push it through insurance. My boys were term and big, so we were not concerned. Carson got pneumonia at 11 weeks, Cameron got RSV at 10 weeks.
Avatar m tn The findings provide important clues to how to develop a safe, effective vaccine against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), the main cause of wintertime hospital stays among babies and young children worldwide, Dr. Fernando P. Polack, the lead researcher on the study, told Reuters Health.

Avatar m tn Dear Laura Lee, Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a virus that can cause significant pulmonary as well as cardiac damage. Without having further information about your son, I can't say exactly what happened with him. I can say that myocarditis, which in children is typically due to a viral infection, causes damage to the heart most likely from both the virus itself as well as the body's immune response.
Avatar f tn My 11 week has rsv .. He was full term .. Has any other mother had this in a infant ..
Avatar f tn Hi, respiratory syncytial virus is a very common virus that causes cold-like symptoms, but can lead to breathing difficulties. Those who are more prone to develop serious respiratory infections as a result of RSV include premature babies and those born with heart or lung problems. Regards.
593530 tn?1263847957 I brought Brody to his pediatrician last week because he was very congested. After a nose swab was tested it was determined that he has RSV. Since it's a virus it can't be treated with antibiotics, so she instructed me to get a cool mist humidifier and keep his nasal pasages clear by using saline solution. The only symptom he's had is the congestion. There's no fever, coughing, mucous coming out, etc.
Avatar m tn ENTA) announced that it has expanded its research and development programs within the company’s core focus areas of virology and liver disease to include new programs to treat hepatitis B virus (HBV) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections. Enanta also announced that the first subject was dosed in a phase 1 clinical study with EDP-494, its cyclophilin inhibitor for the treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV).

Avatar n tn Respiratory Syncytical Virus (RSV) is not a 12-week illness. What may have started as RSV may be something else right now. Reactive Airways Disease (RAD) is a state when a child has been wheezing and the cause is not necessarily defined. When this is short term associated with a particular virus, it is RSV. When this lasts for a longer period, it is often called asthma. The medications used most often for the treatment of this problem are bronchodilators (ventolin is one of these) and steroids.
377012 tn?1283965435 Well, for the 2nd time this year dylan has been diagnosed with RSV......i have no idea how he is getting it since none of the other kids around have it....not unless they are carrying the germ home from school....this drives me crazy! he already as really bad indoor/outdoor allergies and asthma...so what next!!!!

AND I AM WONDERING IF THAT IS A LONG TERM PERMANENT THING, IS HIS EYE GONNA BE LIKE THAT FROM NOW ON? MAYBE BECAUSE WHEN HE WAS TAKEN TO THE ER HIS o2 SATURATION WAS SO LOW???

So now today we got out of the childerns hospital they sent him home with oxygen but to me he still seems bad but they that he was Fine!!
Avatar n tn This may be residual airway reactivity from the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), which is also aggravated by the girls having had Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD). This is not uncommon. It is also not uncommon for this to last a while and be associated with wheezing. I think the approach your family physician has tried is a good one. If this fails, you may consider seeing a specialist.
Avatar n tn Did they diagnose him with RSV? Usually they will have you neb them, but it's a virus and they don't give an antibiotic right away, so it coud very well be something else, like an infection.
Avatar n tn The most common cause of bronchiolitis is a virus called respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), most commonly occurring in epidemics in late fall and winter each year. RSV affects almost all infants. Bronchiolitis can be a severe disease, but only about 1% of affected children require hospitalization. Premature infants and infants with underlying heart and lung disease are most at risk for severe, even life-threatening infections.
