Avatar n tn The medications used most often for the treatment of this problem are bronchodilators (ventolin is one of these) and steroids. Using inhalers in 10-month-old children is very difficult. They do not inhale very well and thus the medication is not delivered very well to the lungs. If the wheezing continues to be a problem, I would suggest seeing a specialist who will most likely recommend using a nebulizer.

Avatar f tn RSV infections generally occur during fall, winter, and early spring. The timing and severity of RSV circulation in a given community can vary from year to year. If other children in your community show symptoms then it is probable that the infection is present. Usually children show symptoms within 4 to 6 days of infection. Most will recover in 1 to 2 weeks. If his symptoms persist, you should consult your doctor. Regards.
Avatar n tn There maybe a small increase in recurrent wheezing episodes in about 40% of children with previous RSV infections only if there was a strong family history of allergies and asthma. RSV may recur again but symptoms tend to be milder with subsequent re-infections This information is strictly for academic purposes and the patient's physician is ultimately responsible for the care and management .
Avatar f tn A teacher that I work with has a baby in the hospital with RSV. She emailed that if you baby has a cough with no fever, please take them to get checked for RSV. My DD is 6 months old and has had a chronic cough for a long time. It seems to get better and then starts all over again. I have taken to the doctor for it three times, the last time a week ago today. Everytime they check her really good and say it is just drainage from a cold. She has not had any fever and feels good.

Avatar f tn He has pneumonia every other month (since birth), he has also had bronchiolitis (without RSV), bronchitis, H1N1, and most currently RSV. When he was two we removed his tonsil and adenoids in hopes to help his asthma symptoms. While it did decrease the amount of sinus infections he had, it did nothing to help any other area. He is on Advair, 115/21 two puffs twice daily, and Allegra (for unknown allergies).
Avatar n tn Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is similar to the influenza virus that causes the flu. In infants and young children it can cause lung infections such as bronchiolitis or pneumonia. RSV infections happen over a period of time. They usually start with what appears as a cold and goes into a cough. Children respond in differing ways and differing levels of severity to this infection.
Avatar n tn I have a 7mth old son who was dx with RAD. He had RSV back in December and was wheezing at the time. His x-ray showed reactive airway disease but they were/are uncertain if it was due to RSV. Since then he has had a cold pretty much one after the other (I have two other children) since then. The albuterol treatments did not do much when he had the RSV..the wheezing continued and my ped. said if it was asthma the neb. treatment would have worked to cease the wheezing.
Avatar f tn There can be honest disagreement among experts about the management of RML atelectasis, bronchiectasis and recurrent pneumonia, despite appropriate, intense medical treatment, in young children with a normal immune system. There is general agreement, however that, when localized bronchiectasis, especially of the RML, becomes refractory, more severe or resistant to medical management, lobar resection may be warranted.
