Avatar m tn The inactivated vaccine was only weakly stimulating molecules on the surfaces of cells that are responsible for recognizing infectious invaders and triggering an appropriate immune response, the researchers say. So an effective vaccine would need to do a better job of stimulating these molecules, known as Toll-like receptors, Polack explained.

Avatar m tn I immediately called his doc and scheduled an appt to bring him in. I brought him in on Friday morning to be checked out and it turns out he caught a virus called Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which is basically an infection of the lungs. Even writing this I break in tears to see my little one suffer so much. It's more like a common cold in adults but for kids his age is more like Bronchiolitis. I had to take him to the ER because of the fever and congestion.
368785 tn?1270432283 Diagnosed with RSV and Bronchiolitis.

377012 tn?1283965435 10-19-08-----took him back to docs for another review and x-ray shows patches on his lungs, so he does have RSV and Pneumonia...on top of that he is getting a viral infection!!!! this past week and a 1/2 has been the worst of all, i just wish he could hurry up and get rid of all of this, but i must be patient and continue getting him better!
Avatar m tn Working at an STD clinic, if you had a small recent cut on your hand (not bleeding) and touched a door knob that had HIV blood on it from a previous test or from blood being drawn, would you be at all concerned for yourself? I think HIV doesn't die instantly outside the body, but is it still infectious?
1690584 tn?1340297472 Savannah was admitted to the hospital for RSV, Bronchitis, Ear Infection. Stayed until Saturday but was released earlier then she should have been due to Christmas. Her oxygen levels were still not staying up high but she is now doing better. She does have a partial collapse of the right lung and they want to no check her heart due to some blue around the mouth.
Avatar f tn In the end, after begging the coroner to figure out what went wrong, and after enlightening him with the problems we had had with that sitter, and our suspicions with her, he basically told us she kept the same story, and that everything checked out fine in the autopsy, except that they found RSV on her brain. By the way, the police never contacted us, and to our knowledge, never questioned the sitter. I was never given my daughter's actual time of death, either.
Avatar f tn I have a fear of being infected with hiv from blood on surfaces. Most recently, I am very nervous about an incident that happened to me the other day. I purchased a sandwich from a store and it was placed in a plastic shopping bag. After I got home and ate the sandwich I noticed red splotches all over the side of the bag. The red could very well have been ink, but I am very worried that it might have been blood.
1368291 tn?1299629804 The bad thing is on Friday I noticed Ryan getting a little stuffy. Saturday he was having lots of nasal congestion and coughing so I took him to the ER. He tested positive for RSV so the last few days have been scary. We are doing a cool mist humidifier with eucalyptus oil at night, albuterol breathing treatments and keeping his nose suctioned out. I hope he gets better soon but I did learn that apparently you cant trust family to let you know...
Avatar m tn Can RSV cause cardiac arrest in a child with passed myocarditis and would he qualify to recieve rsv shot to prevent him from getting it.
Avatar n tn Because obviously he's sick. Xopenex is used to treat and PREVENT bronchospasm in children and adults. Pulmicort is used to prevent and reduce symptoms (wheezing and shortness of breath) caused by asthma. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It works directly in the lungs to make breathing easier by reducing the irritation and swelling of the airways. Amoxicillin is a antibiotic which a lot of times is used to treat bronchitis along with many other things.
765043 tn?1234583003 My son is 2 months. He has RSV. On top of that hehas pnemonia and Broncialitis. I am concerned. He has been on life support for a week exactly today. They have him on antibiotics for infection for phnemonia. ANd they say the rsv has to run it's course. But of course he is getting treatments. Such as pounding, suctionning after his IPV treatments. He had already been in the NICU after giving birth to him for 3 1/2 weeks. He had premaure lungs. 35 weeks old at birth. Jaundice. 1 apnea spell.
Avatar f tn If a person does not have RSV can they cause an infant to get RSV just by having a common cold
Avatar f tn My daughter passed away when she was just over 1 year old and an autopsy was performed. The only thing found was RSV on her brain. Everything else, including heart and lungs were normal. I just want to know, should they not have also been able to find this in her lungs as well, if this is what she died from? Keep in mind, she was not sick prior to her death, and she was born full term....9lbs 6 1/2oz.
Avatar f tn I would take the possibility of RSV very seriously and have her tested. I am on the downward from both of our twin boys having RSV. Brodie ended up being taken by ambulance to the ER and was in PICU for 4 days. He turned blue on us while eating due to not being able to breath very well. He was on breathing treatments for those 4 days as well as oxygen and all kinds of monitors.
593530 tn?1263847957 I brought Brody to his pediatrician last week because he was very congested. After a nose swab was tested it was determined that he has RSV. Since it's a virus it can't be treated with antibiotics, so she instructed me to get a cool mist humidifier and keep his nasal pasages clear by using saline solution. The only symptom he's had is the congestion. There's no fever, coughing, mucous coming out, etc.
Avatar f tn Finally a few days ago i took him in again to the ER n they found out he has a virus newborns have been getting its Called Rsv n if they would have tested it before they would have found it i was So pissed!!! So now today we got out of the childerns hospital they sent him home with oxygen but to me he still seems bad but they that he was Fine!!
Avatar f tn That depends in the severity of the RSV. Right now my daughter (she's 18 months) has a very mild version of RSV.
Avatar n tn We had our ds on 12/26 and unfortunately both dad, big sister and grandparents had colds. Despite our best efforts to keep all germs away he developed a cold at about a week and a 1/2 that progressed to the point of him being admitted to the hospital with RSV. He is doing much better today. We have been here since Thursday and at first he was in the PICU but now we are on the floor. His main problems have been that he cannot be weaned from the oxygen and his breathing gets very fast at times.
