Common Questions and Answers about Rsv in nicu

Avatar f tn I just had my twins at 28 weeks. I also had the steroid shots to help protect their lungs. They're doing awesome and breathing on theirs on. Of course they'll be in the NICU for awhile but i know they're healthy.
Avatar f tn i had my first baby at 33 weeks. I had a placenta eruption and preclamsia. I ended up just bleeded out of no where went in to the hospital and had her the same day. She weighed 2lbs 11oz and had to stay in the nicu for 3 weeks.
551885 tn?1300383822 Last month was supposed to be the last but they called a couple of weeks ago and told us that half the kids that are coming in sick are testing positive for RSV and if Cassidy got it she would go back to the NICU again so I guess this month will be the last.
Avatar n tn My 2nd was born wt 36 weeks via emergency c section due to ruptured placenta. He spent no time in nicu and went home with me. He had to be hospitalized a few times for rsv, was allergic to milk protiens till 12 months old, has ezama but other than that very happy 2 year old. My 3rd was also born at 36 weeks we had to stay in hospital an extra day but she came home with me. She is very tiny and in the 35% for height, weight and head circumference. But she is a happy healthy 11 month old.
163557 tn?1244112942 Brady was discharged on February 16...9 days after his due date, after 132 days in the NICU..weighing 6 lbs 5 ounces! He came home w an NG tube because he can't quite finish all of his bottles yet. I learned to put it in at the hospital so we could just have him home!! We are still not out of the woods for his eyes yet. We have to make weekly visits to Houston for now. The dr. seems to think it just may take a while for the retinas to go back we'll wait!
Avatar f tn I too had a premature baby but he came at 30 weeks weighing in at 3lb 4oz and was in the nicu for 1 month discharge weight was 4lbs. he had broken my water on my 27th week and I was in the hospital for 3 weeks on bed rest and on antibiotics to prevent infection but my other three kids needed their mom and I signed myself out like a fool which I regret now.
Avatar n tn It usually manifest itself as a cold in adults and older children, but can cause serious problems in infants. RSV can cause lower respitory infections, breathing problems, pneumonia or even death. According to statistics, over 125,000 infants are hospitalized annually with Respiratory Syncytial Virus, resulting in more than 500 deaths. RSV can be contracted by placing your hand in your mouth after you have come in contact with an infected person or surface.
Avatar f tn That depends in the severity of the RSV. Right now my daughter (she's 18 months) has a very mild version of RSV.
Avatar f tn My 11 week has rsv .. He was full term .. Has any other mother had this in a infant ..
593530 tn?1263847957 I brought Brody to his pediatrician last week because he was very congested. After a nose swab was tested it was determined that he has RSV. Since it's a virus it can't be treated with antibiotics, so she instructed me to get a cool mist humidifier and keep his nasal pasages clear by using saline solution. The only symptom he's had is the congestion. There's no fever, coughing, mucous coming out, etc.
Avatar n tn I would not worry so much about blood draws, RSV is a virus that should pass in a week or so usually, but it causes such an issue with breathing. I would check to see if they have a monitor for pulse ox- like Peek said, will check the oxygen levels. When they dip below 90 most Dr.'s will really watch it.
Avatar n tn My son is going to be 2 months old soon and a couple of days after he was born they told me he has RSV, i have been in and out of the hospital so many times and he dose not seem to be getting any better. I have read everybody stories and How they lost their loved ones and i am so scared that it might happen to my son. Please is there anything that i can do to prevent this from getting worse???
Avatar f tn My son had rsv and the hospital kept him and thankfully we were released in a few hours because his breathing was better.its scary to do that at home, honestly they should of kept him he's only an infant ! Please contact a doctor I honestly don't think he should be home my son was two months old when he had it, and my husband ask if we can go home with him and they told us some pretty scary stuff .
Avatar f tn A teacher that I work with has a baby in the hospital with RSV. She emailed that if you baby has a cough with no fever, please take them to get checked for RSV. My DD is 6 months old and has had a chronic cough for a long time. It seems to get better and then starts all over again. I have taken to the doctor for it three times, the last time a week ago today. Everytime they check her really good and say it is just drainage from a cold. She has not had any fever and feels good.
Avatar f tn They said she had RSV, they could either suck some snot out and test it and tell me she has RSV, or just tell me she has it and the treatment will be the same - her cough was also barky (croup like) at night, so she told me to wrap her up and sit outside and let her breathe in the cold air. I hope its not RSV, but if it is a mild case and isnt in her lungs and she is eating and drinking ok, they probably wont do anything anyway.
1368291 tn?1299629804 Saturday he was having lots of nasal congestion and coughing so I took him to the ER. He tested positive for RSV so the last few days have been scary. We are doing a cool mist humidifier with eucalyptus oil at night, albuterol breathing treatments and keeping his nose suctioned out. I hope he gets better soon but I did learn that apparently you cant trust family to let you know...
377012 tn?1283965435 has been back and forth to the doctor with allergies, asthma, and other complications such as RSV he has been diagnosed with RSV twice in the past 3 months the last time was 6 weeks ago, and it has cleared up since! this morning he started coughing, having a runny nose, discharge from his eyes and wet coughing as well....i was just wanting to know how i could tell if he has fluid in his lungs????
Avatar f tn I just had my beautiful son on Nov 30 th! And already he is sick! My baby was taking to hospital 3days ago. And I found out he had RSV it's a viral affection u get from being around someone sick. My daughter had a bad cold and I assuming he got it from his big sissy which is only 1 by the way but it's sad because how do u tell ur 1 old to stay away from there baby brother.
363110 tn?1340920419 Hi all, I am 22 yrs old married 3 yrs to a wonderful man. We had our first baby 3 1/2 mo. ago and he's a miracle child. He's got Down Syndrome, EHK (epidermolytic Hyperkeratosis) a rare skin problem, hypothyroidism, along with previously having a HUGE VSD and 2 small ASD's. He had surgery at about 2 1/2-3mo old (the 4th of Nov)... we were very worried but it was at LLMC or Loma Linda Childrens Hospital.
Avatar f tn Did they do a chest xray when you took him in? The reason I ask is because when I took Jadyn in they did a chest Xray and swabbed for RSV. The xray came back clear and his breathing "sounded fine" so they gave me the choice of taking him home and caring for him myself.
Avatar f tn I took my 4 week old to the ER and they told me he has RSV. They just gave me a paper on it, They didn't really tell me what to do except suction out his nose. I read the paper ad it told me that in mild disease that no specific treatment is necessary. So I guess he is only a mild case, but I don't know how to tell if he is getting worse. I read on another site that family history of asthma puts him at a higher risk for becoming a severe case. I am know wen he is getting worse?
Avatar f tn I know how you feel my daughter was very ill at two and was in and out of the hospital for three almost four years. She was in more than out, like a week in and a day or two out then back in again. I got my feel of the hospital and had my last one at a birthing center and took her home a few hrs after delivery, I plan to do the same for this one.
Avatar f tn t make it, but my son stayed in nicu for 50 days.I was in for four days 2 days after a c-section due to my daughters funeral..
