He had premaure lungs. 35 weeks old at birth. Jaundice. 1 apnea spell. A cyst in his lever because of abuse from the hospital. The tube that was in his tummy got misplaced to his lever and eventually he formed a cyst. He has had to blood transfusions. One at the nicu after birth because of his anemia.

And he wheezes when he breaths, and breaths fast. No cough. But he has always breath fast. And his lungs always sound clear.

Avatar n tn My son was born when I was just 24 weeks pregnant. He spent 77 days in the NICU 52 of which were on a ventilator, so of course there was quite a bit of scarring of the lung tissue and he stays sick a little longer than most when he gets an upper respiratory infection. Last year he had pneumonia 5 times between April06 and January 07, then a week long hospital stay in Feb for RSV....

551885 tn?1300383822 Last month was supposed to be the last but they called a couple of weeks ago and told us that half the kids that are coming in sick are testing positive for RSV and if Cassidy got it she would go back to the NICU again so I guess this month will be the last.
Avatar n tn My 2nd was born wt 36 weeks via emergency c section due to ruptured placenta. He spent no time in nicu and went home with me. He had to be hospitalized a few times for rsv, was allergic to milk protiens till 12 months old, has ezama but other than that very happy 2 year old. My 3rd was also born at 36 weeks we had to stay in hospital an extra day but she came home with me. She is very tiny and in the 35% for height, weight and head circumference. But she is a happy healthy 11 month old.
Avatar n tn Did you decide to get the RSV shots for your baby? And are they going to be in daycare or exposed to other children alot? We only have 3 kids in the family that she would be around, and not if they are sick. Just looking for advice, sorry this got so long, and thanks for taking the time to read it and give advice!
163557 tn?1244112942 Brady was discharged on February 16...9 days after his due date, after 132 days in the NICU..weighing 6 lbs 5 ounces! He came home w an NG tube because he can't quite finish all of his bottles yet. I learned to put it in at the hospital so we could just have him home!! We are still not out of the woods for his eyes yet. We have to make weekly visits to Houston for now. The dr. seems to think it just may take a while for the retinas to go back down...so we'll wait!
Avatar n tn I feel for you. We were in the hospital twice with RSV last winter with our little guy. He has NO effects and the doctors have said nothing about long term effects. It's scary seeing them on oxygen and it's true, it just has to run it's course. They will probably keep you a few days after he IS well to monitor him. They did with our little guy anyway. Our little guy does have asthma but it's a mild case and I have never been told it was related to RSV.
Avatar f tn I too had a premature baby but he came at 30 weeks weighing in at 3lb 4oz and was in the nicu for 1 month discharge weight was 4lbs. he had broken my water on my 27th week and I was in the hospital for 3 weeks on bed rest and on antibiotics to prevent infection but my other three kids needed their mom and I signed myself out like a fool which I regret now.
368785 tn?1270432283 Diagnosed with RSV and Bronchiolitis.
Avatar n tn From what I understand, RSV is a viral infection that is usually present in hospitals. My son has had it while in the hospital for an extended period. As with any just about every virus, RSV is infectius. RSV is not a life time infection or causes any lasting effect, as far as I know. Your grandson probubly had a feveral seizure. As a parent, I don't know for sure, but this is what I have thought RSV is.
Avatar m tn Can RSV cause cardiac arrest in a child with passed myocarditis and would he qualify to recieve rsv shot to prevent him from getting it.
Avatar n tn It usually manifest itself as a cold in adults and older children, but can cause serious problems in infants. RSV can cause lower respitory infections, breathing problems, pneumonia or even death. According to statistics, over 125,000 infants are hospitalized annually with Respiratory Syncytial Virus, resulting in more than 500 deaths. RSV can be contracted by placing your hand in your mouth after you have come in contact with an infected person or surface.
Avatar f tn If a person does not have RSV can they cause an infant to get RSV just by having a common cold
Avatar n tn He is over 10 pounds now and doing great. I am still breastfeeding, well, pumping, cause he was in NICU for 7 weeks and i had to pump, so i continue to do this. My question is, do any of you have preemie babies and how was their development? Were they behind or not? thanks so much and God Bless you all!
1690584 tn?1340297472 Savannah was admitted to the hospital for RSV, Bronchitis, Ear Infection. Stayed until Saturday but was released earlier then she should have been due to Christmas. Her oxygen levels were still not staying up high but she is now doing better. She does have a partial collapse of the right lung and they want to no check her heart due to some blue around the mouth.
490418 tn?1209523379 My 6yr old son died due to complication from RSV in Feb. 2008. He did get Synagis until his third winter. He was in the hospital for most of RSV season his first two years and did not get RSV. The next year we were denied Synagis due to the cost. He ended up on a vent in the PICU for a week. The following winter he spent 10 days in the hospital with RSV. This year he spent the first week in PICU and the next two week on Eccmo. He died on his 6th birthday. We never even heard of RSV IG.
Avatar f tn I know how you feel my daughter was very ill at two and was in and out of the hospital for three almost four years. She was in more than out, like a week in and a day or two out then back in again. I got my feel of the hospital and had my last one at a birthing center and took her home a few hrs after delivery, I plan to do the same for this one.
