rsv

Avatar n tn I copied this form a web site Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a common viral disease of the lungs. It usually manifest itself as a cold in adults and older children, but can cause serious problems in infants. RSV can cause lower respitory infections, breathing problems, pneumonia or even death. According to statistics, over 125,000 infants are hospitalized annually with Respiratory Syncytial Virus, resulting in more than 500 deaths.
1346146 tn?1299360497 Well Lauren has rsv! My pedi also said adults can get it to!?!? Didn't know that. I guess that explains this cold type stuff I have. So she is on breathing treatments. We caught it early enough so hopefully it wont be so bad. Dh is also sick, my oldest son broke his foot last week at school and is in a nonwalking cast, and Lauren also bit my left breast last week while nursing and it's infected so im on antibiotics and she can't nurse from that side!
Avatar n tn He was okay to come home then he was 5 weeks old and got really ill with the RSV and was in the hospital and then heart failure then the surgery then infection and more illness. he does have pulmomary issues partly because my hubby has asthma and the ithers they are saying is from bing on a ventilator at such a young age. Please make sure he gets the synagisis shot.(it helps lesson the rsv in a child with a heart issue and premature babies.
Avatar n tn Bronchiolitis is usually caused by a viral infection, most commonly respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). RSV infections are responsible for more than half of all cases of bronchiolitis and are most widespread in the winter and early spring. ___________ It sounds like the relationship of bronchiolitis and asthma is still being studied. In the meantime, I would work to ease the other factors, such as exposure to second-hand cigarette smoke, that he might be exposed to. Good luck!
Avatar f tn my baby has RSV. I felt sick a little before we found out she had it and then a cople days later I got a cold do you think that could be it? and thank you.
192918 tn?1199451179 My 9 mo old was in the hospital last night because she got a cold that moved into her chest. The congestion was making it hard for her to breathe. She was diagnosed with reactive airway disease (RAD), which I guess is similar to asthma, but since they can't test for asthma at this age they call it RAD. Anyway, this is the second time since September that she's been in the hospital for this. Poor kid can't get a common cold without having problems breathing...
Avatar n tn I just took my 3 month old to the doctor and was told he has Reactive Airway Disease. This is my first child and I have never heard of this before. I understand it is something like asthma. Anyone who knows about this please let me know what I have to look forward to...if this type of thing continues or if there is something I can do to help cure it or at least relieve him of some of the symptoms. Still no clue what caused it. But wondering what all it entails. Thank you!!
537497 tn?1292553056 my youngest son is in the hospital right now with reactive airway disease.. I am freaking out, does anyone know anything about this??? Please lots of prayers for my little guy.. Thanks guys, you are the best...
Avatar f tn I took my 4 week old to the ER and they told me he has RSV. They just gave me a paper on it, They didn't really tell me what to do except suction out his nose. I read the paper ad it told me that in mild disease that no specific treatment is necessary. So I guess he is only a mild case, but I don't know how to tell if he is getting worse. I read on another site that family history of asthma puts him at a higher risk for becoming a severe case. I am know wen he is getting worse?
Avatar f tn RSV is a resportory disease that starts as a common cold and then starts to shot down the resportory system very scary. We finally found out what it was that my daughter had. She had strep in the stomach and intestines. Instead of the strep staying in her throat she swallowed it. She got worse that ever after I posted this, so I brought her to a different hospital and they figured it out. thanks for responding.
2189208 tn?1339572701 Rsv is a really bad cold it does nothing,to adults but is in,some cases fatal to infants!
Avatar f tn My 11 week has rsv .. He was full term .. Has any other mother had this in a infant ..
Avatar f tn That depends in the severity of the RSV. Right now my daughter (she's 18 months) has a very mild version of RSV.
Avatar f tn Finally a few days ago i took him in again to the ER n they found out he has a virus newborns have been getting its Called Rsv n if they would have tested it before they would have found it i was So pissed!!! So now today we got out of the childerns hospital they sent him home with oxygen but to me he still seems bad but they that he was Fine!!
Avatar n tn I have an 11 month old with rsv today is heart rate is avg 176bpm and his resp rate is 50 plus. This has been ongoing, he is hospitalized and on ventilation treatments. He is listless and we are worried, how long can a babies breathing and heart rate work this hard before he goes into distress.
Avatar n tn My son is going to be 2 months old soon and a couple of days after he was born they told me he has RSV, i have been in and out of the hospital so many times and he dose not seem to be getting any better. I have read everybody stories and How they lost their loved ones and i am so scared that it might happen to my son. Please is there anything that i can do to prevent this from getting worse???
593530 tn?1263847957 I brought Brody to his pediatrician last week because he was very congested. After a nose swab was tested it was determined that he has RSV. Since it's a virus it can't be treated with antibiotics, so she instructed me to get a cool mist humidifier and keep his nasal pasages clear by using saline solution. The only symptom he's had is the congestion. There's no fever, coughing, mucous coming out, etc.
1368291 tn?1299629804 Saturday he was having lots of nasal congestion and coughing so I took him to the ER. He tested positive for RSV so the last few days have been scary. We are doing a cool mist humidifier with eucalyptus oil at night, albuterol breathing treatments and keeping his nose suctioned out. I hope he gets better soon but I did learn that apparently you cant trust family to let you know...
Avatar f tn A teacher that I work with has a baby in the hospital with RSV. She emailed that if you baby has a cough with no fever, please take them to get checked for RSV. My DD is 6 months old and has had a chronic cough for a long time. It seems to get better and then starts all over again. I have taken to the doctor for it three times, the last time a week ago today. Everytime they check her really good and say it is just drainage from a cold. She has not had any fever and feels good.
Avatar f tn RSV is one thing that I am really worried about. That is why I have taken Anna to the doctor 3 different times for the same cough. They always say her lungs are clear and have never even mentioned RSV to me. She feels fine during the day and is eating well. She has no fever and isn't seeming to have trouble breathing. Do you think she could still have RSV? My reason for not going back to the doctor is that where I live, flu and a serious stomach virus are really bad.
Avatar f tn He has pneumonia every other month (since birth), he has also had bronchiolitis (without RSV), bronchitis, H1N1, and most currently RSV. When he was two we removed his tonsil and adenoids in hopes to help his asthma symptoms. While it did decrease the amount of sinus infections he had, it did nothing to help any other area. He is on Advair, 115/21 two puffs twice daily, and Allegra (for unknown allergies).
Avatar f tn Hi there, Did your pediatrician ever check your baby for RSV? Its a nasty virus that can lead to all of the symptoms you have described. My baby had this at 3 months. It started out like a small cough, runny nose and I could just tell she didnt feel good. They listened to her lungs and heard some fluid in there. They did a swab test in her nostril and it came up positive for RSV. RSV can lead to asthma in children, if it's not treated.
Avatar n tn When tracheomalacia is due to an anatomic abnormality or mass in children or adults the prognosis depends in large measure on surgical correction and how long the bronchial compression has been in place. The adult form, which is often due to connective tissue disorders or prolonged mechanical ventilation, is increasingly being treated with success by the placement of splints.
Avatar f tn I just had my beautiful son on Nov 30 th! And already he is sick! My baby was taking to hospital 3days ago. And I found out he had RSV it's a viral affection u get from being around someone sick. My daughter had a bad cold and I assuming he got it from his big sissy which is only 1 by the way but it's sad because how do u tell ur 1 old to stay away from there baby brother.
Avatar n tn 1) Does testing under any type of pneumonia viral/bacterial or RSV can give me a false negative? 2) Does being tested under viral pneumonia antivirals, RSV antivirals, iv antibiotics or any other pneumonia medication can also give me a false negative? Thank you.
