Common Questions and Answers about Risks of antibiotics during pregnancy

antibiotics

Avatar f tn I would just call the office to be safe and tell them you are pregnant and want to know if the antibiotic prescribed for you is safe during pregnancy. I expect that it is as most are but it would be best to run it by your doctor You can go online and look up the drug's package insert and labeling pertaining to pregnancy as well. good luck and I hope you feel better.
Avatar n tn Your doctor is aware of your pregnancy and some antibiotics are perfectly safe during pregnancy. Best to work with your doctor and follow their guidance. Wishing you a quick recovery and easy rest of your pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Most antibiotics are safe to take during pregnancy, and that is one of them. The risk of am active infection is much worse. Take the antibiotics.
Avatar n tn I found hot showers and prescribed pain killers (category A) helped during the peak of attacks but towards the end of my pregnancy pethidine was the only thing that helped me.
Avatar n tn It may have risk during pregnancy. However, think the risks would be for high dose over longer period (remember my last post that Drs. told m3 there's low blood flow the the embryo early on so risk is low) (animal studies use very high doses so may not translate to human usage). But better stop the drug if you haven't already. Omeprazole also Category C. Issue again is with high dose likely.
Avatar f tn My OB keeps telling me that this is fine because all of the meds that were prescribed are safe during pregnancy (all category B)....but I hate doing this! Has anyone else experienced this?? Plus....i have this feeling that I may have to take the terazol again....I am well into my second trimester so I think its ok...but this is so nerve racking...please help!
Avatar n tn My meds that I have to take are a C with mild risks. I would guess Ativan falls in one of those three. Every higher letter has more risks than the one before. Ultimately the choice and risks are yours to take.
518733 tn?1333017015 t want any water infections ( I am assuming you are referring to bladder or UTI) to go untreated when you are pregnant. I have heard of many women getting antibiotics for a bladder infection and some women were even able to take some for a really bad sinus infection. Try not to stress too much - your doc knows your pregnant right??
Avatar f tn t even know I had a UTI that had gotten worse. With this pregnancy, My doctor wanted me to be on antibiotics the entire pregnancy just because kidney infections are so serious and dangerous during pregnancy. Talk do you doctor about how the benefits outweigh the risks.
Avatar f tn m sure you are fine to take it. With all medicines there are a small amount of risks or side effects that can happen. If they do happen just discontinue taking the meds. I personally think you will be just fine, try not to over think things and get anxious about it. It's bad for you and baby.
8075190 tn?1401035475 1 in 200 babies delivered with moms that are carriers of gbs will actually get infected.
Avatar f tn Definitely call your dr. The risks of a uti are alot worse then risks of antibiotics. I've been on antibiotics twice during this pregnancy & my little guy is still doing perfect.
Avatar f tn I had a couple different antibiotics with those as risks and never had an issue, if the benefits outweigh the risks, they'll prescribe that, double check with your doctor but it's probably fine to take, a lot of medicines will say terrible things that can happen.
Avatar f tn any of you ladies had any type of antibiotic prescribed during pregnancy? you see im im afraid because my last pregnancy ended in miscarriage. during time when i was very sick and only thing i took was tylenol, am i blaming that medicine?.....no, just happened...now im afraid to take any medecine.
20922415 tn?1661860103 During the reproductive years, the pituitary gland in the brain generates hormones (follicle-stimulating hormone [FSH] and luteinizing hormone [LH]) that cause a new egg to mature and be released from its ovarian follicle each month. As the follicle develops, it produces the sex hormones estrogen and progesterone, which thicken the lining of the uterus called the endometrium.
Avatar f tn Potato chips are fine. Just be aware of how much you're eating so you don't overdo the sodium and calories.
Avatar f tn s why at every ob visit they test your urine for one. Antibiotics are very low risk during pregnancy. With my first pregnancy I was on them 6 times.
Avatar n tn Yeah take antibiotics but once it goes away it might gives you a yeast infection.. Because it gave me one so make sure u tell ur obgyn they will give u some medicine to take..
1472764 tn?1287588186 I'm 16 weeks and I'm suffering from a horrible yeast infection. I took 7 days of terazol and 3 days of monistat. Neither helped. Creams usually don't on me. Diflucan is the only thing that works but my dr. said he doesn't prescribe it during pregnancy. I'm so sick of it. I'm miserable. Has anyone ever taken diflucan when they were pregnant? What are the side effects to the baby?
Avatar f tn Traveled to Asia on 3/2. In March, during the first few weeks abroad, got the cold; took 1-2 pills of Tylenol (Cold & Allergy) & Nyquil. Took 1/2 pill of Ambien one night. Had a chest X-ray on 3/11 (immigration purpose). Was drinking 1-2 small glasses of beer or wine daily for about 2 weeks in early March. Am worried about my first pregnancy and would appreciate medical information on risks to the embryo development. Am considering options in a foreign land.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Apo-Cephalex 500mg (to be taken four times a day until finished) by an ER doctor & the warnings say "Not to be taken during pregnancy & breastfeeding unless benefits outweigh the risks." Its for an infected ingrown toenail that bleeds, oozes pus, is red & swollen. Im 27w+1d & scared to take them. Ive soaked my foot in warm epsom salt water, used polysporin, rubbing alcohol & nothing seems to work. Ive had it for about two weeks now. Any input?
5021579 tn?1376397207 They will give you antibiotics during labor. Best time for you to get the antibiotics is about 4 hours before the baby is born, which is plenty of time. After birth, there aren't any risks anymore for you. They will just monitor the baby for about 24 hours to make sure baby is fine. Don't worry. It's more common than you think. Good luck.
