Common Questions and Answers about Restasis plugs

restasis

Avatar m tn I have severe dry eye and in pain and too sensitive to restasis can eye plugs help?
Avatar f tn My eyes now feel better than they have for quite awhile but still red like no sleep (I get 8 hrs daily) I have 3 questions; 1. can plugs be used with Restasis? (Restasis info says no but Dr. says yes) 2. Should I try plugs 1st and if not successful, then go back to Restasis? 3. In reading about Restasis, are there future bad side effects in continued use such as cancer? I am starting to question if I should get another opinion. Thank you for any suggestions that you may have.
Avatar m tn I have been using the restasis for about 3 months and have not really noticed a difference. My right eye is worse that the left. The doctor plugged the lower lid, however I cannot tell much of a difference. The irritation is coming from the upper lid. I look in my right eye and can see tears along the lower portion. If I plug the upper lid and unplug the lower would that help? Also based on the Schirmers score would this be considered mild/moderate or servere dry eye?
Avatar m tn We have been on Restasis with spectacular results for over 8 years. There are two other drops like Restasis, xiidra which patients do not like and is very expensive and Cequa which is same medicine as restasis but stronger concentration. Ask you ophthalmologist about Restasis (cyclosporin) think it just became available as generic.
Avatar m tn Eventually, that stopped and I have some relief from the dry eye. I found that it took a combination of Restasis (four months use), four puncti plugs, and added humidity to my home to achieve reasonable success. Cautery is a permanent procedure as opposed to the plugs, which are removeable.
Avatar m tn I use Restasis before plugs. Restasis increases quality of tears and reduces inflammation. Plugs best put in by ophthalmologist Eye MD.
Avatar n tn Ive gone to the doctor about this and he prescribed me anti-infamatory eye drops which did not work. Then we tried the eye plugs, it helped a tiny bit, but it still did not help me to wear contacts. My eyes are still dry so now we are trying Restasis, but I read in the instructions that it does not work for people with eye plugs. The doctor told me that basically if this doesn't work he cant help me. Anybody know what my problem could be and how I could fix it?
Avatar f tn Hi. Last week I started Restasis for dry eyes. I tried temporary collagen plugs but they did not help.. My dry eyes just seemed to come out of the blue last month. (I've had minor dry eye problems for many years). Now, it's all I think about. My main problem is a windy feeling to my eyes, even in my own home. I am actually dealing with that right now. My eyes actually feel better when they have a dry feeling, if that makes sense.
Avatar n tn my eyes have been excessively dry. I did get plugs, but how do you tell if they are still there? I started restasis but it burned my eyes so terribly. I put in two drops two times a day and that probably was too much. I had such a terrible reaction to it. It has been about two years and my eyes seem to have recovered, but I would like to try it again. Do you think that is wise? My eyes sting constantly if I do not put drops in every 15 to 20 min. It is difficult. I just need other alternatives.
Avatar m tn For the permanent, easy to remove plug, is it the same as smart plugs? There are several types of permanent plugs. Which one do you usually use? Thank you.
Avatar f tn I have had severe dry eyes since last June, including all the symptoms such as stabbing pains when I wake up. After 2 steroid drops, Sooth XP, Freshtears gel at night, and now finally Restasis and Lotemax, I see no improvment. I have been taking the Restasis for 5 months now. If it was going to work, would it have worked by now? I show no signs of improvment. After spending lots of money that is hard for me to come up with, I am at my wits end. Any other suggestions?
Avatar f tn On my patients I use tear duct plugs only AFTER a 4-6 month trial of ReStasis. ReStasis is a revolutionary eyedrop that has changed the treatment of dry eyes world wide for the better. In the USA it is the second most widely prescribed medication. My wife and many of our friends are on restasis. Also recent studies indicate that 2 or 3 Omega 3 (enteric coated fish oil) greatlyhelp dry eyes. Takes 3-4 months to kick in.
Avatar f tn Hello, I have developed extremely dry eyes after my cataract surgery. First surgery was April 2nd and second one was April 16th. Went back to work April 22nd - my job requires me to be on the computer 8 hours every day and my eyes are in absolute agony. I am putting Refresh Tears in every hour on the hour and that is not helping. Is this normal??? And if yes, how long does it last?
Avatar f tn This could be the blur although the doctor thinks its possible he uncertain as it is tiny. I am also using Restasis which has given me great relief from dry eye.I might add that although I have seen several eye care professionals none of them suggested Restasis, I had to demand it. The blur predate the Restasis. I know that burning can be a side effect for Restatsis as it wakens the eyes system to create moisture. I don't mind it but it has reminded me of the plug.
Avatar f tn Taking fish oil capsules and getting punctal plugs as suggested by Dr. Ray above helped me. I have both dry eyes and bleph. It seems to me that my dry eyes have also been helped by my bleph treatment. In addition to using Soothe eyedrops, which are preservative free, I wash my eyelids once or twice a day using the suds from an anti bacterial dial soap bar. This is a tip which I got previously got on medhelp. While it may seem as if it is difficult to do, it is not.
Avatar f tn m told I have no signs of infection, ocular surface is good, Schirmer test shows mild dry eye with use of punctal plugs, small sign of allergy. I tried a short course of steriod drops which relieved my symptoms, but they returned as soon as I stopped. Restasis for three months has offered no improvement. Pataday and Acular provide no benefit either. I am at a loss as to what to do next. I would greatly appreciate any direction or ideas.
Avatar f tn I forgot to say we rarely us tearduct plugs anymore. Restasis is much better and much more successful. Restasis is the most widely prescribed eyedrop in the USA. My wife has been on Restasis for about 6 years with fabulous results.
Avatar m tn I had read in a post your reccomendation for a opthmologist that specializes in nerve issues about 2 weeks ago and you gave a site to go to but I have lost it.
Avatar n tn Thank you so much for your input doctor, I will have my Mom look into this with the restasis and tear duct plugs.
Avatar n tn I have tried so many meds and now am on restasis and my doc said we could do plugs which now I am going to. A few thoughts and my eyes are really bad but that have helped slightluy. The theralid foam is the best for me to keep the eyes clean. Much better then baby shampoo or the wipes. I use only preservative free drops but when I put them in I close my eyes right away to keep them in as much as possible. If I go too long without the drops forget about it.
Avatar m tn Thanks but I'd have more questions because I am not reading English very well. 1. Do you mean Omega 3 supplements is more useful than those blueberry thing? 2. Sorry what is tear duct plugs or restasis?? I don't understand.
Avatar n tn Remember, even if you end up not officially having the disease, you still have very dry eyes and need to be on tears, oral flaxseed oil, and consider punctum plugs and restasis drops if needed.
Avatar f tn Vigorous therapy for dry eye, including Restasis and tear duct plugs and cautery with silver nitrate are very helpful. Find a cornea Eye MD near you at www.aao.org If all else fails surgical removal or cautery or conjunctival recession sometimes take care of the problem.
1318483 tn?1318347182 Hi, Shell- I have no clue. Lol. I do know that they wanted to do the plugs last year but I opted to wait and see how the Restasis would do. Well, it doesn't work well enough so now we proceed with the plugs. I do know that if the plugs are to irritating or my eyes end up being too "wet"... Lol...they can take them back out. Also, it will be done right there in the docs office and no drugs are needed beforehand. He said I may feel pressure.
Avatar f tn I have had Sjogen's Syndrome for two years. I tried Restasis, Punctal Plugs, Lacrisert, and every kind of eye solution made. Nothing has helped this annoying problem of constant dry eyes. Has anyone heard of the surgical procedure that closes the tear ducts? I plan to ask my doctor about this on my next visit.
Avatar m tn What suggestions would anyone have for a dialysis patient with severe dry eye? Restasis, moisturizing eye drops and tear duct plugs have been tried with no relief. This discussion is related to dry eyes.
