Common Questions and Answers about Restasis otc

restasis

Avatar f tn Hello, I am a twenty year old female who was recently diagnosed with chronic dry eye. I had a viral pink eye in both eyes a couple months ago and since then my eyes have continuously become drier. They're itchy, bloodshot, and are heavy and sore at night. I tried OTC preservative free drops, lotemax, restasis, omega 3 fish oil, and am drinking a lot of water. My remedies are helping but this condition is awful and I'm not sure if I'm doing enough to reduce the symptoms.
343006 tn?1314446471 I can't say for sure if the dry eyes are a side effect but there are treatments for it. There are OTC drops to help keep the eyes moist; there's something called Restasis (sp?) that the doctor gave to my Mom for her dry eyes. Hers were so bad the corneas were scratched up and her eyes were painful all the time. The Restasis wasn't comfortable to use at first because of the damage but now her eyes have healed and feel so much better. I do believe that's a prescription however.
1470552 tn?1300605907 The needle sticking villians are relentless. You can get some OTC moisture drops. Get good ones. Or talk to your eye doc about Restasis. Dry eye is a symptom of Sjogren's, yet another autoimmune disease that crosses over with Hypothyroid, Hashi's and Graves. Do you have very dry mouth also?
Avatar n tn If your problem is dry eyes, it can take prescription drops (Restasis) several weeks to work.
1819252 tn?1317092002 I have both Restasis and Systane. Systane is over the counter and you can get it in any pharmacy. Restasis is prescription and it would be prescribed only if you had your eyes examined by an eye doctor and your eyes were inflamed.
Avatar n tn I had lasik back in 02 & never had a problem--had white eyes & never dry. Just used OTC generic artificial tears here & there. Then in 5/08, I develop. red eyes & had a prominent vessel in my left eye. Eye dr. said it was strain from studying for my MBA and should go away on its own. He took eye tests and put me on restasis. The redness went away but the prominent vessel stayed. It's still there to this day & the eye dr.

Avatar n tn I have used Restasis for a year now and, while it did start working well after I had used it for about four months, it stopped working about three months ago. The dry eye is terribly uncomfortable, makes my vision blurry, and causes eye pain, redness and bad discomfort in general, and OTC lubricating drops don't help. I have cataracts and holes in my retinas in both eyes.
Avatar f tn I just got back from my optomologist & he prescribed for me Restasis. He mentioned that once you're on Restasis, it's an on going thing it's not really temporary. Is that the case, do I have to stay on it. I was hoping that once my eye is feeling better, I could just use artificial tears to keep my eyes from drying so badly. He also changed my contact lenses to Acuvue Oasys. Any advice or info would be great.............................
Avatar n tn My ophthalmologist recently prescribed restasis for dry eyes. I read that cyclosporin can causes cancer. Is this true? Are these drops safe?
Avatar f tn I'm on restasis, my wife is on restasis, I use restasis in my practice. the medicine does not cause floaters. Floaters can occur at any time. If they start and you are doing something else like mowing the yard, reading a book or starting restasis the relationship is COINCIDENTAL. On the other hand if you are hit in the eye with a fist and note floaters the relationship is CAUSATIVE.
915277 tn?1252573113 Have you tried artificial tears (with hypromellose)? How about Restasis? My mom was on Restasis for a while, stopped because she thought it didn't help, and has now started again because her eyes are so red and swollen. I hope someone else has good ideas!
Avatar m tn Rare anyone to be too sensitive to restasis. My wife and I have been on restasis for many years with fabulous results. restasis works with both forms of dry eyes. Many people have stinging with restasis for several weeks which can be helped by using steroid drops for a couple of weeks. there is a new medication that works like restasis called Xidra it is supposed to kick in faster (3-4 months) than restasis (4-6 months) but has not been shown to be better than restasis and is more costly.
612876 tn?1355514495 I know we've discussed the dry eye quandary before, but I was hoping we could revisit it because I don't recall the subject of punctal plugs ever coming up before. (And we all know my powers of recollection are top-notch ... sarcasm, sarcasm.
Avatar f tn Refresh PM gel, Systane Ultra lubricating drops and Restasis. Optimologist prescribed Restasis 6 weeks ago. Still not sure why eyes are red all of the time. Suggested allergy testing, which I have scheduled now. Optomologist says that he still isn't sure what is going on and wants to put plugs in my eyes. My eyes now feel better than they have for quite awhile but still red like no sleep (I get 8 hrs daily) I have 3 questions; 1. can plugs be used with Restasis?
Avatar f tn Ask your ophthalmologist if you have GPC (giant papillary conjunctivities) which is an allergy to contact lens wear that causes bumps under the eyelid. If so ask him/her about opticrom for treatment of GPC. Google and read about. More likely you have dry eyes. Probably why your contacts started bothering you and lasik can make dry eyes worse. Go to my website and scroll through the blog posts and read the updated article on dry eyes.
Avatar n tn I prescribe Restasis and I use Restasis. I am not familiar with a blue vial holder. I Googled the term and nothing comes up so I don't know anything about it.
Avatar m tn I have a moderate to serious dry eye. I am going to start my Restasis today and I know that I will not see the result till 2 months or more from now. I am also planning for a cataract surgery in 1 to 2 months. I also foresee that I will use some steroid or antibotics for a few weeks after the surgery. Do I need to stop Restasis once I start the steroid ?
Avatar m tn Can I put temporary plug and try Restasis at the same time as Restasis takes quite a long time to kick in.
Avatar m tn A new prescription drop you may want ask your doctor about is Freshkote. My doctor said it is an option he likes to use before Restatsis. I've tried every OTC drop, and I've heard the Restasis is expensive and has a low success rate. Freshkote has been working better than anything I have tried, and I can use it with my contacts. I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I have not seen this in my Restasis patients. Dr. O.
Avatar n tn Thank you very much for your response. I have use Steralid, after while it caused eye irritation. Fish oil made me sick to my stomach. I did ask my eye doctor for antibiotics and his nurse told me he declined that and also restasis. The only two left are the minocycline or deoxycycline and the restasis. So, should I beg the guy, I went to high school with him 30 years ago.
427279 tn?1210919821 but eyes have changed first time in years ...and he said i had extremely dry eyes....wants me to take restasis but kept saying "you may not think it's working for you but it will be just keep using it...hmmmmmm....so anyway all is good just so tired dont want to move...
Avatar m tn s syndrome on steroids for long periods. Most of my patients with your problems I treat with Restasis twice daily for the rest of their life. I have said this before but both my wife and I have bad dry eyes and my wife has been on restasis with good results for about 15 years and me for about 10 years. Note it takes 4-6 months for Restasis to kick in and work fully. There are too other drops that are in this family.
Avatar f tn Said I do have dry eye and that could be problem but told me just to use otc drops for lubrication. They both did a vision test and it shows 20/25 and 20/30 so neither one will prescribe correction lenses bc they said I see better with the naked eye than I do with a prescription. How can that be??? I have since gone to my optometrist with my frustrations because I couldn't believe that an opthamologist would not give me a prescription.
Avatar m tn My Eye Doctor suggested I keep Restasis in the fridge to make more comfortable and reduce the burning and to keep using ir for 2 days. Does Restasis lose its effectiveness when placed in the fridge. Also when are results typically seen? I have a TBUT of 5 and hoping to see an increase if ues consistently.
