I have used Restasis for a year now and, while it did start working well after I had used it for about four months, it stopped working about three months ago. The dry eye is terribly uncomfortable, makes my vision blurry, and causes eye pain, redness and bad discomfort in general, and OTC lubricating drops don't help. I have cataracts and holes in my retinas in both eyes.
If after 2 months the Restasis seems to not be working, I may request the plugs. I have been using the TheraTears nutrition capsules for about 2 weeks now.I have to agree with another poster that ANXIETY is a BIG problem with me right now. I have read other message boards and some of the depressing stories. I know I need to just stay away from that but after reading some of the outcomes, I'm horribly depressed and feel anxious all day long.
has anyone taken restasis? I either get intense lacrimation and cannot see, or now my orbital is attacked and I cannot focus in one eye. any success with anything?
After taking restasis for over a year and my dry eyes was not getting better the Dr. gave me lotemax but said only use that. Now after using it for 2 months only, he said I shouldn't have stopped the restasis. Now I am really annoyed.....have I lost what improvement I may have gained with the restasis having stopped it for two months? Should I be seeing a opthomologist rather than a Dr. of Optometry???
It need not be. Find a very competent ophthalmologist, ideally a corneal external disease specialist and start working your way through therapy. If' its that severe the soon you go on restasis the better.
I'm on restasis, my wife is on restasis, I use restasis in my practice. the medicine does not cause floaters. Floaters can occur at any time. If they start and you are doing something else like mowing the yard, reading a book or starting restasis the relationship is COINCIDENTAL. On the other hand if you are hit in the eye with a fist and note floaters the relationship is CAUSATIVE.
My ophthalmologist recently prescribed restasis for dry eyes. I read that cyclosporin can causes cancer. Is this true? Are these drops safe?
I just got back from my optomologist & he prescribed for me Restasis. He mentioned that once you're on Restasis, it's an on going thing it's not really temporary. Is that the case, do I have to stay on it. I was hoping that once my eye is feeling better, I could just use artificial tears to keep my eyes from drying so badly. He also changed my contact lenses to Acuvue Oasys. Any advice or info would be great.............................
For aqueous deficincy you can try artificial tears like hypotears and standard dry eye treatment or if nothing works restasis.
It is unlikely you have ocular candidiasis.
Refresh PM gel, Systane Ultra lubricating drops and Restasis. Optimologist prescribed Restasis 6 weeks ago. Still not sure why eyes are red all of the time. Suggested allergy testing, which I have scheduled now. Optomologist says that he still isn't sure what is going on and wants to put plugs in my eyes. My eyes now feel better than they have for quite awhile but still red like no sleep (I get 8 hrs daily) I have 3 questions; 1. can plugs be used with Restasis?
I used Restasis (which is prescription) because the over the counter Systane was not working all by itself. I used the Restasis when I got up in the am and before bed. In between I used Systane. This worked well and I had no trouble with my eyes during treatment (before starting on Restasis it felt like I had sand in my eyes all of the time.
They didnt really seem to have much of an effect on dryness for me, but im going back today to get them put back in just to make sure. I was also prescribed Restasis. Do these treatments seem reasonable for my dryness and redness problem? Does my doctors estimation of the redness because caused solely by dryness sound correct even though I told him I used vasoconstrictors for a few years on a regular basis?
It likely will be 4 to 6 months to see improvement. Ask your surgeon but restasis is not stoppeed by our surgeons. Steroid drops are not a problem, in fact I often put the patient on steroid drops when they start restasis to reduce stinging/burning. Use the steroids about 2-3 weeks. Good luck. Be patient. Restasis is a wonderful medication.
My wife has been on it about 3 years with wonderful results.
Pred Forte is a ultra stong steroid with many possible side effects. It is not a long term treatment for either dry eyes or blepharitis. You should try and get off it as soon as you can and see an Eye MD ophthalmologist for treatment. Also read below:

The lense felt like it was a thicker material and immediately sucked all the oxygen out of my eyes. During this period I also started on Restasis and even that doesn't seem to be working. I have Raynaud's disease and think this may have something to do with my dry eyes. What brand of contact lenses do you think would be best? Thank you!
Xiidra, which I do not use after having poor results and may complaints from my patients about stinging, burning and not being effective. If after a 9 months the person is still symptomatic on restasis twice per day and preservative free artificial tears 2 to 4 times/day than I switch from restasis to Cequa, which is the same medicine as restasis (cyclosporine) but twice as concentrated and is said to penetrate deeper into the cornea. Cequa is more expensive.
