Restasis and pterygium

Common Questions and Answers about Restasis and pterygium

restasis

Avatar f tn I can't understand why my Pterygium in the morning is painful and red sometimes and takes ages to settle. No artificial tear will help with redness either. Other times when its generally red and i put a drop in, it does nothing. If its dryness why won't a drop help?? Please don't come back with an answer recommending "Get the red out" drops. Should i be using gels or ointments instead?
Avatar m tn An amniotic membrane graft is used to prevent recurrence of pterygium after excision, and could conceivably be used in your case. I would see an EyeMD who is a specialist is cornea and anterior segment disease.
Avatar m tn It started about 5 years ago and would come and go, now it never goes away. When it first appeared I went to an eye doctor and she told me it was sun damage and she could "snip it out" or it might just get better on its own. I decided to leave it alone at the time. I since moved to the other side of the country and went to a new eye doctor. He told me it was sun damage, but I was stuck with it, that there is nothing you can do.
Avatar m tn I thought it might have grown back as a pterygium on my right eye and saw and specialist at the Moorfields Eye clinic in London who examined it and said it was a pinguecula and after reading and looking at pictures I do agree with the doctor, as it does seem to be a tiny yellowish deposit that has veins running into it, the pterygium that I had before did look different and I have read that a pterygium is a more advanced form of a pinguecula.
Avatar f tn Risk factors are exposure to sunny, dusty, sandy, or windblown areas. Farmers, fishermen, and people living near the equator are often affected. Pterygium is rare in children. Symptoms The primary symptom of a pterygium is a painless area of elevated white tissue, with blood vessels on the inner or outer edge of the cornea. Tests & diagnosis A physical examination of the eyes and eyelids confirms the diagnosis. Special tests are usually not necessary.
Avatar f tn I have pterygium also and have found out from extensive research that Professor Lawrence Hirst of Australia has the best method of pterygium removal, he has done a little under 1000 surgeries with only one recurrence. Google him to see his research paper on (Pterygium Extended Removal Followed by Extended Conjunctival Transplant) P.E.R.F.E.C.
Avatar n tn Cryotherapy is not a normal treatment for pterygium as it would cause a scar much worse than the original pterygium. Surgical excision is the only way to remove the pterygium. Conjuctival autografts or amniotic membrane grafts and/or mitomycin are often used in conjuction with the excision.
Avatar n tn It will probably take at least 3 months for your eyes to quite down. You had big time surgery and the inflammation is very obvious since the tissue is transparent and rich in blood vessels.
Avatar n tn I had the second surgery January 2008, this time with an amniotic graft. Low and behold, not two months post surgery, and the pterygium has returned as big and red as ever! Now I am going to see a cornea specialist and will have surgery for the third time. After much research I have to ask, what is a person to do? Also, I followed the doctors orders to the tee, drops, drops, and more drops. Also, the recovery after the surgery is miserable!
Avatar f tn I had the money at that time to go to any Dr in the country...and i chose him because of his high volume of successful pterygium surgery...he has taught at Jules Stein...on his resume i reviewed online. I dont have the money now & my eye is worse off inside & out. I trusted him because of his expertise...and my eye is horrible. I did burn my eye....on vegas...one eye turned out ok...with surgery using my tissue...but my worse eye...is..well...worse..
Avatar f tn Hi Dr. I stared directly into the sun in 115 degreee heat in Las Vegas Nevada. I forgot my sunglasses...stupidity....at best....and i fried my eyes so bad..that my left eye doubled in size & 3 days later...a pterygium grew on my left eye..(1 mm) & continued to grow..2mm at 3 years..and then the right eye..ping..grew into pterygium also. I had surgery with an experienced surgeon...the eye that was slow-er growing was a success..The eye that i fried....is not.
Avatar n tn Almost all are about how long it takes to heal and how red and irritated the eye looks and feels. Also these are so individual and unique that it is impossible to generalize. OFTEN: it takes 3-6 months for the surface of the eye to whiten and flatten.
Avatar f tn I am trying to choose the right Dr for pterygium removal. The Dr i saw (Harvard Eye..Ca) uses glue not sutures. What are your thoughts on that?..any adverse reactions to glue in the eye? Also...does the eye ever look/function normally again. And it looks painful (watched a utibe video of the surgery)How long does the eye stay red?
Avatar n tn Feldman I have pterygium in my eyes, both have been mild so far but now I have a inflammation in one and it looks as if there is a white head in the middle and red inflammation, the eye is also burning this has been going on for a week now. Will the inflammation go away on its own? If not then what can i do?
Avatar f tn (He did have a healthy tissue placed in place after the pterygium was removed and his doctor is supposed to be experienced and a top ophthalmologist). Are these post surgery symptoms normal? And is there a worst case recovery time? We were told the surgery went well and the very next day, he had a check-up and was able to read some alphabets even if with a lot of strain.
Avatar m tn I have a small pinguecula in my eye and went to see local eye doctor.I was told that pingueculae and pterygium are treated almost the same way: with amniotic graft and NO stitches, removing the whole growth. Here is the link that helped me to make my decision: http://www.gulanivision.
Avatar f tn Are most patients happy with their results after Pterygium Surgery?....and on a scale of 1-10..how painful is recovery...?...Thank u for your time...I have seen Dr H. & he reccomends surgery. I am scared, but i know it's the only way.
Avatar n tn Just diagnosed w/ all three. Doc sez to use Restasis and artificial tears w/ no preservatives. Everything I read about Fuchs sez to dry it out, even w/ a hair dryer. Doc sez eye is damaged by current dryness and he cannot do the cataract 'til tears function better in a month or so. Will the Restasis increase the moisture and worsen the Fuchs? What is the failure rate on cataract w/IOL combined w/ dry eye combined w/ Fuchs? He is concerned w/ this combo.
Avatar n tn Hi. I have recently had auto conjunctival surgery for a primary pterygium. The surgery was approx 5 days ago. Post operatively I have noticed there is still a small arrow/trianglar shaped piece of tissue that encroaches on my cornea, inside the graft, similar to that of the original pterygium. Is this normal?
Avatar n tn What type of pterygium surgery do you do there at your office? Is it the bare sclera or graft surgery with or without stitches? Thanks.
