Provigil brain fog

Common Questions and Answers about Provigil brain fog

provigil

Avatar f tn I am tired, lack energy and have brain fog. My insurance won't authorize Provigil, because I don't have narcolepsy. Is there a medication that would work similarly to Provigil? I might have MS - need to do a repeat brain MRI. I would very much appreciate any feedback. Thank you!
Avatar f tn To me, and again, my opinion only. The brain fog comes from the medications taken for fibro. A lot of people use 2-3 different things for certain symptoms, to me (my opinion only), that would be a cause for the "brain fog" so many complain about. I take only OTC, (everyone is different) aleve & tylenol for my aches. It works for me. Have you thought about CBT for your insomnia? Cognitive Behavioral Thearpy.
Avatar f tn I have taken both Provigil and Ritalin, for "brain fog" connected to dizziness rather than for fatigue, although certainly they helped with fatigue, especially the Provigil, I think. They both helped the "fog" tremendously, as I was able to make my mind and attention "stick" on things. I had no significant side effects from Provigil except that when it wore off in the afternoon I would feel a kind of odd, hard-edged tension or something for awhile.
968560 tn?1307451498 My Dr. just recommended Provigil for my fatigue and brain issues. It sounds like an upper to me, but without the edginess of Ritalin...like Bill says used by pilots duing the Iraqi wars...also people with narcolepsy and MS patients with fatigue, amongst others. I read on the MS forum that many members use and recommend it. I'm still waiting on a prior auth and trying to make up my mind about it. Right now...today....I feel really good, so I don't know that it's warranted.
20003388 tn?1515166040 Hello everyone. So, for years now I have suffered from extreme fatigue and brain fog/memory issues. I had my testosterone and thyroid checked, both were low. I on now on thyroid meds and testosterone replacement but it hasn't made a dent in my fatigue and brain fog despite my levels being optimal now. I do have sleep apnea and use a CPAP at night but my numbers there are also optimal. Caffeine, and most stimulants, make the fatigue worse.
400308 tn?1204247129 Thanks Jim, why doesn't he fly your way! I do hope he isn't a pilot. That wouldn't be good with brain fog. My brain fog was so bad sometimes I wouldn't drive. It would seem that a leave of absence would be the way to go, or cut your losses as Jim says and try again when the PI come out and tx is shorter.
Avatar f tn Doc said they not only help with fatigue, but brain fog as well. That may be true, but I was dealing with other issues at the time (tx related) that the 4 half pills I tried only served to keep me miserable for more hours in the day. By the time those sides abated, I felt pretty good and didn't see the need for them anymore. I still have 5 left just in case. You need to take them very early in the morning in order to sleep at night...they're basically an upper if you ask me.
400099 tn?1282954864 m glad your doc is treating the fatigue, but I wonder why the Ritalin instead of the usually more favored Provigil. Have you tried and failed Provigil or something? Yes, people have been helped by Ritalin and it's (better, I think) cousin Adderall for the symptoms of Cog Fog and the ADD it can cause. I'll be interested in hearing how well it works for fatigue. I thank the stars for you finding such a good doctor. They are a treasure!
Avatar f tn i have been taking vyvanse which has been one of the best medications that i have been given over the last several years---unfortunately, it is expensive without insurance. i have been having to pay around $158 dollars a month for it. provigil didn't do a whole lot for me.
Avatar f tn I started Avonex last week Friday. I started with 1/4. The very next day I felt amazing, better than I felt in years. Even my brain fog was better. However as the week went by I noticed that my fatigue started to return and increasing got worse. I figured it was because the medication was leaving my system. Friday I took my second dose. (1/2 dose) I didn't get the same boost in energy that I had the first week. I am more tired than I was last week.
Avatar f tn ll have to work on my PCP and neuro, see if they can get my insurance to cover it for dizziness/brain fog or SOMETHING. They can't actually approve it only for sleep apnea, shift worker sleep disorder, and narcolepsy; there must be a way to get it approved, as it's the only thing that has helped me to lead a somewhat normal life in the past year.
476834 tn?1228398709 There are just no words to describe it at its worse - - - That being said, I have found that my Cog Fog has improved tremendously since I started taking Provigil for fatigue a couple of months ago. I don't know if that would be an option for you or not?? It is definitely not a cure as I still have my moments - but I feel I am at least a semi-inteligent human being again : ) I hope this helps some!
704043 tn?1298056844 If your neuro won't prescribe it, maybe your regular doctor will. Ritalin is a legitimate drug. True, it's a form of "speed," but so what? If you take it properly, there's no problem. It IS a controlled substance, and therefore you will have to get a new prescription for each refill. Maybe your neuro just doesn't want to be bothered with that hassle. My neuro prescribed it initially and then said my PCP could continue the Rx, which my PCP was fine with.
Avatar f tn I am currently taking the following for FMS: Celexa (depression), Ultram (pain) Vicodin (bad pain), Lunesta (to stay asleep), and now Provigil (to stay awake in the day). I have say, these all are helping, but maybe about 50%. The pain never goes away, only flucuates to bad or worse. The Lunesta is great. I tried Ambien & Sonata, but couldn't handle the side effects. Lunesta keeps me asleep but doesn't make me feel hung-over in the morning.
Avatar f tn Several scientists recently wrote in the journal Nature that healthy people should have the right to boost their brains with pills like Provigil. One author of that commentary, brain scientist Martha Farah of the University of Pennsylvania, said the new study "goes to show that we need a little caution and a little humility when we're messing around with our brain chemistry.
Avatar f tn When does it go away? I'm now on my 4th week on 90mg of Armour and still have really bad brain fog. Will it go away when I get to my optimal dose? Can't tell you how many times I'll walk into a room not knowing what I'm there for. Everyday blends into itself so I have no clue what happened on what day. Gotta say, when you think every weekday is Wednesday it's always cool when you find out it's Friday.
320078 tn?1278344720 i just started having brain fog, i was on my way to work, when i stopped at the ATM and could not remeber my pin number. i am sitting at my desk, and i just can't remember it??? i feel like i cant complete a sentence or thought? has this happened to anyone else?
Avatar f tn I have had blood tests come back normal, but I know there is something wrong. I'm awake, but don't feel like I'm awake. I have been experiencing such a weird "brain fog" & I don't know now else to describe it. I have a feeling I could be experiencing perimenopause. My dr put me on a birth control pill that I took for almost two weeks & had to stop taking it bc it affected my legs & I was worried about blood clots.
