Avatar f tn I started Avonex last week Friday. I started with 1/4. The very next day I felt amazing, better than I felt in years. Even my brain fog was better. However as the week went by I noticed that my fatigue started to return and increasing got worse. I figured it was because the medication was leaving my system. Friday I took my second dose. (1/2 dose) I didn't get the same boost in energy that I had the first week. I am more tired than I was last week.
Avatar f tn Several scientists recently wrote in the journal Nature that healthy people should have the right to boost their brains with pills like Provigil. One author of that commentary, brain scientist Martha Farah of the University of Pennsylvania, said the new study "goes to show that we need a little caution and a little humility when we're messing around with our brain chemistry.
Avatar f tn s been an issue with me for more than 10 years, but the last 2 months I was really bad and just being awake for more than 5 hours wore me out. He prescribed Provigil and I've read some of the threads on it and it sounds very promising. My question is, is it something you can take daily indefinitely? Or are you supposed to just take it when you need it (which would be daily for me!) I hope my insurance will cover it because I'm not diagnosed with ms or anything.
Avatar f tn I am tired, lack energy and have brain fog. My insurance won't authorize Provigil, because I don't have narcolepsy. Is there a medication that would work similarly to Provigil? I might have MS - need to do a repeat brain MRI. I would very much appreciate any feedback. Thank you!
Avatar f tn on the addictions forum someone brought up the topic provigil for energy, i have been clean for a while now but i have hep so my energy level is very low, and i also have under active thyroid so my question is this, when i researced this new drug i found """PROVIGIL is a federally controlled substance (C-IV) because it has the potential to be abused or lead to dependence. Please use PROVIGIL only as directed and keep in a safe place to prevent misuse and abuse.
1088527 tn?1425313375 What you describe is what people who take speed experience. Provigil and Nuvigil are meant to have a selective action on the sleep/wake centers of the brain. They are not supposed to act as general stimulants. I doubt this hyperactivity is good for people in general. In those of us with MS it could be downright dangerous.
429700 tn?1308007823 Thank you so much for the feedback. I just dropped off my prescription to get it filled at the pharmacy. I'm holding out a little bit of hope that the medicine will work. I'm thouroughly discouraged about the Provigil not being covered by my insurance company because I feel halfway human on this medicine. I kind of feel like the character Charlie in Flowers for Algernon having seen the way I could be and having to slide backwards to the way things were before.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am wondering if anybody has a suggestion of medications that work to help with memory problems associated with SCT that will not cause more memory problems or possible brain damage with long term use?
Avatar m tn It was very difficult to be able to concentrate on my work or do anything requiring the use of my brain. I was seriously thinking about stopping the tx because of this even though I know the consequences. My Dr. recently prescribed Provigil for me. Knowing my history, and my usual positive attitude even during the hell of the tx, he thought that would be better for me that an anti-depressant. The Provigil has made a huge change in my energy level and the way that I feel.
429700 tn?1308007823 After all this time, three years at least, my insurance company is no longer approving me for Provigil. This drug is the one thing that I've taken that has made a huge impact on the quality of my life. Without it, I'm unable to think clearly and I'm too fatigued to get up out of bed or off the couch. I may have to retire on disability because there's no way I will be able to teach. The drug also helps with the ADD (diagnosed after the MS as an adult, LOL).

Avatar m tn Hi there. I'm sorry to hear what happened. Unfortunately, there can be events in the medical field that are really unexpected and have little explanation, and what happened to your father maybe no exception. Off hand, I can think of causes like an embolism (blood clot that lodges in the blood supply of the brain) or a transient arrhythmia (problem with the electrical conduction of the heart). However, these would have shown up in the scans and EKG respectively.

Avatar m tn Can Klonipin help with permanent Neuorological brain damage, do to an over dose on LSD? Thank you Clay Woodward.
Avatar m tn Hi....I think u mean damage to the brain...not brain damage unless it is untreated. There is a condition called syringomyelia and it can be caused from a trauma or even whiplash, another condition that can be there since birth, but triggered during or after a trauma is chiari malformation. U should always get checked if u have a head trauma.....Natasha Richardson died shortly after falling while skiing.....
Avatar m tn The answer to the question is as follows: TX is a powerful treatment that can in some, or even many cases, produce a wide range of side effects, and post-treatment side effects that may last for days, weeks, months, years, or in some cases it appears permanently. The first goal is to get rid of the virus, especially in those whom it has advanced beyond early stages, or seems to be causing significant physical or cognitive problems.
Avatar f tn I am taking an anti-depressant and my Doctor is thinking I might benefit from this medication Provigil. Has anyone tried this medication? I would appreciate any information.
400099 tn?1282954864 m glad your doc is treating the fatigue, but I wonder why the Ritalin instead of the usually more favored Provigil. Have you tried and failed Provigil or something? Yes, people have been helped by Ritalin and it's (better, I think) cousin Adderall for the symptoms of Cog Fog and the ADD it can cause. I'll be interested in hearing how well it works for fatigue. I thank the stars for you finding such a good doctor. They are a treasure!
