429700 tn?1308007823 My sleep study showed that I had mild apnea, with one episode of central apnea (stopped breathing) that the doctor didn't think was significant. I guess that's ok as long as your brain regains the ability to breathe :-) nothing was found in my sleep study that would justify a c-pap machine. no, I don't take provigil/nuvigil but has a coworker with MS who tried the samples, loved the difference and then our insurance said NO.
Avatar f tn I have the same issues (MS and Sleep Apnea). There are times when I can take the Provigil and still lay down and go right to sleep. I told The Physician Asst at my Neuro office there are times when the fatigue is so bad the Provigil doesn't help. She said that when someone has that level of fatigue there probably isn't anything that will help except sleep. Quix might be able to tell us what the half life of Provigil is. I only take it in the morning.
Avatar n tn I have severe sleep apnea and use a sleep apenea machine and I can tell you it is not a perfect science using this machine it is not a cure and has imperfections, even using this machine I too have day time sleepyness and I have black outs driving my car it is very scary blacking out while driving I need help, I told my doctor and he prescribed me nuvigil and it cured my blackout outs and I felt awake for the first time in years, I felt alive and was able to think clearly and thought I was on cl
Avatar m tn I also have severe obstructive sleep apnea, and use a CPAP at night. The provigil does keep me from napping during the day, and I take it when driving longer distances. I would caution you that taking a stimulant does not make up for lost sleep, it may work for a couple of weeks, months or so, but the lack of sleep will come back and manifest itself and make things worse. You should get treatment your sleep apnea.
Avatar f tn The neuro that treats my sleep apnea prescribed Provigil for me before I was diagnosed with MS. At that time, I was slapping myself to stay awake while driving and thinking was a slow difficult process that felt like I was wading through chest high mud to find a match to light my fire. Life as me and near me was unpleasant and unsafe. I have taken both Provigil and Nuvigil over the past three years.
Avatar n tn Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) In patients with OSA, PROVIGIL is used only along with other medical treatments for this sleep disorder. PROVIGIL is not a replacement for your current treatment.
956292 tn?1334054869 m thinking more clearly and the fatigue is better with the Provigil and the other medicine to help me get a deeper sleep. MS and other brain diseases can cause sleep disorders including sleep apnea. I would highly recommend a visit to the sleep disorder clinic for the sleep study if your insurance pays the cost (highly costly).
Avatar f tn This sleep disorder is characterized by excessive day time sleepiness, sleep paralysis, cataplexy where the person has episodes of loss of muscle function while awake, hypnogogic hallucinations and automatic behavior. Sometimes other sleep disorders like obstructive sleep apnea and restless leg syndrome cause inadequate sleep leading to fatigue and daytime sleepiness.
1203197 tn?1265555829 I take Cymbalta, abilify, and trazadone. I am extremely overweight and have sleep apnea. I find it increasingly dificult to focus and function in my daily life. I was taking seroquel for a year and I think that it did much more harme than good. I could not get off of it without help. that is why I am taking trazadone to get me off the seroquel. I no longer take the seroquel.
956292 tn?1334054869 A sleep study showed he had bad sleep apnea and a c-pap machine resolved his sleepiness. But the fatigue I had with Lyme was different. It was a crummy feeling of little energy and less motivation, like I was coming down with the flu, but then never did. Small doses of Ambien helped me sleep more, which reduced my severe fatigue, but not much. A sleep study could be really helpful if it shows something treatable. I didn't have one, but my neuro prescribed provigil for me anyway.
Avatar f tn YES, it definitely will help you! I've known MS patients who are taking Provigil and they say it's a miracle drug--this doesn't mean it'll work fabulously for everyone, but it does do an amazing job of zapping excessive daytime sleepiness. I'm taking Provigil for excessive daytime sleepiness as a result of sleep apnea, and the first few months I was on Provigil I've never felt more awake in my entire life.
Avatar f tn supplements, Epworth scale = 20, had RLS my whole life with no snoring or sleep apnea and suddenly at age 42 I feel like someone is drugging me. I also took Provigil and was OK for a couple hours then back to complete exhaustion. After ditching Provigil, my doctor gave me amphetamines, and I took naps right through them. I had a sleep study test done and got results yesterday.
1307298 tn?1305946851 I started to investigate sleep apnea when I had to slap myself awake on the way to work and had to work hard to keep my thought processes functioning once I was there. I was napping several hours during the day and sometimes felt like I slept soundly 8-10 hours each night. I never awoke rested though. This was a couple of years before my official MS diagnosis came. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and started to use a CPAP machine. Some people get an instant improvement.
Avatar f tn I've had horrible fatigue for over two years now. I've had the million dollar workup- so far it's not shown anything conclusive. A few months ago, my Doctor started me on provigil, because I finally told him I was afraid my constant need for sleep would cause an accident at work. At that point, I had stopped driving. I HATE not driving!!! I finally had a sleep study D/T RLS, which I've had my whole life with no real problems.
Avatar m tn In the end, I was tested for sleep apnea and ended up being diagnosed with RLS, which can cause the same symptoms. The provigil worked great, but like Eagle said, it is very expensive. It supposedly has less addictive properties from meth, but I can see where it would be abused and it is. My advice, talk with your doctor, if he/she thinks it is something that is right for you, give it a try, but stick to the strict dosing instructions.
Avatar f tn I had a sleep study done last year that showed over 200 spontaneous arousal over 8 hrs. My MSL is a 6. No apnea, no sleep stage problems, no cataplexy. everything was normal. I work the normal day shift and always have. I take 200 mg of provigil now, but i'm still so tired. No one has been able to tell me why i am so tired. does anyone know what is wrong with me?
Avatar f tn then he would take ambien/lunesta to go to sleep. all of the provigil and ambien/lunesta samples would always be gone from the drug room at the office i worked at and they were not going to the patients...
1745492 tn?1320198340 My husband was diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea and narcolepsy about 5 years ago and the narcolepsy is under control with 200 mg of Provigil. He had hypnogogic hallucinations, body jerks when falling sleep, imaginary conversations with no one, talked in his sleep, fell asleep driving, talking and even in activities you'd never imagine a male would fall asleep. He appears to always have had it since about puberty but it got worse as his sleep apnea did.
Avatar m tn I have been tested for and treated for b12 deficiency, testosterone deficiency, obstructive sleep apnea( I use a cpap machine), and since January have had a very healthy diet as I was diagnosed with a multitude of food allergies. I just got my injection yesterday afternoon, so now to see how well it works! Thanks for your thoughts and comments!
3065262 tn?1342122561 The docs have me on pain meds, patch, cymbalta, suldinac, nausea meds, modifinil to keeo me awake from sleepimg with sleep apnea, and B-12. I will pick up today D3, Magnesium, and Raspberry Keytones today. My daughter could also use to help with her sleeo apnea. Again that you so much ! I talked to Doc last night about Myofascial pain syndrome boy it really sounds like I have that. He said they would check with muscle biopsy.
1088527 tn?1425313375 What you describe is what people who take speed experience. Provigil and Nuvigil are meant to have a selective action on the sleep/wake centers of the brain. They are not supposed to act as general stimulants. I doubt this hyperactivity is good for people in general. In those of us with MS it could be downright dangerous.
Avatar n tn s a lot of controversy over whether UARS is a distinct clinical entity or along a continuum with sleep apnea. Anatomically, I see small jaws with dental crowding and severe narrowing of the space behind the tongue when lying flat on their backs. Your history of sleep paralysis has to be better defined by your sleep doctor to see if it's the classic sleep paralysis or dozing off due to fatigue. Sleep paralysis has other implications besides sleep-breathing issues, such as narcolepsy.
