Since I have been taking Protonix for GERD, my heart seems to be pounding in my throat. This has never happened to me before and is alarming. My blood pressure has always been low. Is this normal? Is there anything else I can take beside Protonix?
I have been posting in the addiction forum because I was taking pain med for knees and began taking too much, then decided to quit. It's been a few months since I stopped the meds and I've experienced a lot of neck and shoulder pain. I've been seeking treatment with massage and chiropractic care. The pain is not subsiding at all. The chiropractor said that I don't have an injury, but fascia...itis in neck and shoulder.
Anyone out there on Protonix? I was diagnosed with acid reflux and was put on Nexium which helped slightly with my burping but I was still getting stomach aches. I went for an abdominal ultrasound, endescopy and CT scan with IV contrast and all came back fine. My Dr just switched me to Protonix.
The Dr gave me Nexium, but I was still getting upper stomach pain and pressure in the chest an back. I was switched to Protonix and it seemed to help with the upper stomach pain right under the breastbone. I'm taking two pills a day. Does anyone know how long Protonix takes to work? I was told that some PPI's could take 4 to six weeks to take affect.
gave me Protonix because I was experiencing some acid reflux...I took Protonix for 2 weeks (1 per day at 40mg) .. I have been having very bad side effects... Naseous, dizzy, increased anxiety, palpitations, gagging, insomnia, rapid heart beat. I thought I was dying. I called my Dr and he blew me off saying he never heard of such side effects and that I am getting anxious maybe I should see a therapist. I have no history of bad anxiety and racing heart like this..
I have posted in the pain management forum, but not in this one yet. I've been having bad neck and shoulder and shoulder blade pain on the right side for a few months. I have been taking Protonix since May, 40mgs once every evening. Because I'm not getting relief with chiropractic care or anything else for that matter, I started thinking about medication and side effects. The protonix s the only thing that could possibly be the culprit.
I ran into a Protonix discount program that is supposed to work over your phone by texting PRO. Has any one used this program or one like it? I looked into places on this forum but could not find if there was a better place for this question so I apologize if I am in the wrong section. I currently use protonix and if I can save money on my prescription that would be great. Thanks for your insight.
I called it a poisoning because she was IVed with Protonix twice even though her drs knew she was allergic.Allergic reactions to Protonix are many and are 99 times out of 100 diagnosed as something else.Unfortunately a certain number of patients will experience severe reactions to Protonix such as pancreatitis.That is why Altana,the German company who developed Protonix made Wyeth set aside monies to cover such reactions before they sold the patent to Wyeth.
Then when I went to my doctor Thursday, she switched me to Protonix. If they are basically the same, could Protonix work for me if Prilosec OTC didn't? I'd really like to know because I've had this problem for almost 3 months now and I'm tired of eating plain food.
I went to see family doc and he did blood test to rule out pancreatitis (result came back normal), and put me on Protonix 40mg, once a day. I took for couple of weeks, and felt ok, so stopped, but pain would come back, so went back on it couple of days later. The bottle had 30pills, and one refill. After I took for 30days, I was off of it couple of days but again, the pain was coming back, so I went to get refill, and started taking daily.
I was diagnosed with reflux after an EGD last summer. I was sailing along, taking protonix 1x per day, eating pretty much normally, and then boom , it was as if a switch were thrown, and the symptoms returned once again. I am now on Zegerid at night (taken for 3 days) and have seen little improvement, and Protonix in the AM.
My question is, has anyone experienced this where the drug just stopped working for you?

I have been taking Protonix for 5 yrs. Originally had Bowel obstruction surgery 7 yrs. agao. Bad doctor from emergency room referral, no antibiotics before during or after. Contracted acute sepsis, jaundice then ARDS.
On ventelator in coma for several weeks. Upon awakening had hole in my stomach size of a football. Several failed mesh surgeries, finally flapped and repaired by reputable nationally known surgeon. Still have adhesions requiring decompression sometim es, etc.
The pain seemed to stop by the time I left the hospital the next day and they gave me 30 Protonix. The endoscopy a few days ago did not yield any real results, only finding minor irritation that they suggested could be the beginning of Acid Reflux, but I'm not sure because I do not have many of the symptoms (no nausea, difficulty swallowing, or chest burning sensation) and they could not tell me that Acid Reflux was definitely the cause. I do not smoke cigarettes.
Went to hospital a month ago for bleeding ulcers of the esophagus, and was given bags full of Protonix, IV for a week. Was sent home taking 40mg 2 X a day. Had microalbumin well over 400 when I had labs done for checkup. So Dr. ordered a kidney ultrasound and a nodule was found in my right kidney. I've seen several law suits about Protonix causing kidney failure!
I was sent to a GI and scoped, stating esophagitis and small hiatal hernia. I was placed on Protonix once a day. I felt better, so went off, only to have a year of on and off again chest pain/breathing issues and on/off PPI medication. During this year, I have also had a full cardiac workup and full pulmonary function test, both of which were perfect. A few months ago I was sent back to the GI and he wanted another scope. This time he said GERD and to stay on medication.
my dr prescribed Protonix to me and I wondering how often does someone have dizziness from it and how long does it usually last? I haven't taken it yet due to that. Also I tried omeprazole otc and it gave me headaches. Does that mean I'm more likely to have side effects from Protonix?
this is my second post after a nice member of this forum gave some advice about probiotics and aloe juice,,my apologizes in advance cause english is not my first language...i became american citizen the last year but my typing is not the best...the last year they found h pylory after an endocoscopy...they gave me the treatment with the antibiotics and tested after and they told me that i was negative of the bug...but after that i felt worse than ever...pain around my ribs..acid reflux/...
